New in 2.3: Output Check, Signal Details, offline ICC Verify, LUT pattern previews, simpler export, and crash-reporting controls.
PatternSpace is a test pattern generator for display calibration on Mac. Show reference patterns on a selected display, connect ColourSpace to drive measurement patches, or send SDR patches through supported Blackmagic Design hardware with the separate DeckLink SDI Output add-on.
BUILT FOR YOUR CALIBRATION WORKFLOW
Use PatternSpace alongside your calibration software and measurement instrument. Choose the output display, signal preset and measurement range before starting a session. PatternSpace generates patterns and prepares LUTs and profiles; it does not measure your display.
FREE ON MAC
• A built-in library of solid patches, color bars, grayscale ramps, clipping targets, gamma patterns, geometry checks and calibration references.
• Device Native, Display SDR and SDR Reference presets, including sRGB, Adobe RGB, P3, BT.709/BT.1886 and BT.2020.
• Full and Legal measurement range for supported display-output modes, output diagnostics, and display and profile information.
• PatternSpace Remote: discovery, status and up to 25 rendered patches per session for your scripts and tools.
• LUT Tools (Beta): inspect and compose chains, repair grey-axis reversals with Fix and optional 0–1 clamping, and prepare verified exports automatically. ICC profile building, inspection and comparison.
• Blank/Resume retains the output session and shows who controls it; optional idle blanking tracks time without output commands.
PATTERNSPACE PRO — ONE-TIME PURCHASE
• ColourSpace, CalMAN and PGenerator network automation.
• Unlimited PatternSpace Remote rendering.
• HDR PQ, system-tone-mapped HDR, Display HDR and Linear HDR display output, with Peak White and EDR controls. Available output depends on the selected display and macOS.
• Advanced invertibility analysis (Pro, on request): review coverage and round trips for every Invert and Subtract in Overview.
• LUT Tools (Beta): export prepared LUT chains. Import supported LUT formats, compose transforms, adjust ASC CDL and scaling, inspect neutral-axis curves, and prepare resampled conversions. Subtract and Invert use numerical inversion; clipped or non-invertible information cannot be recovered exactly.
• ICC Profiles: export SDR matrix/TRC display profiles, optionally with per-channel VCGT calibration curves; apply those curves temporarily; and use guided profile assignment. These workflows do not apply a full 3D LUT to the macOS desktop.
• LUT Tools can also export RGB-to-RGB ICC DeviceLink profiles for compatible software. These are distinct from display profiles assigned in macOS Settings.
Inspecting and preparing LUT chains is free; writing LUT files requires Pro. Assigning an external .icc display profile remains free. Pro has no subscription and supports Family Sharing.
DECKLINK SDI OUTPUT — SEPARATE ONE-TIME PURCHASE
Send solid-color and rectangle calibration patches through compatible DeckLink or UltraStudio hardware. Requires Blackmagic Desktop Video 16.4.x and hardware that passes PatternSpace's compatibility checks.
SDR supports selected 720p/1080p modes: 10-bit YCbCr, Video (Legal), BT.709/gamma 2.4. With Pro, HDR-capable devices also offer 1080p/UHD PQ and HLG with static HDR metadata. Modes, rates and containers depend on single-link device support. SDI does not output Library patterns.
The SDI add-on is independent of Pro. ColourSpace, CalMAN and PGenerator automation also requires Pro; purchase both to use those workflows over SDI. The add-on does not include hardware or calibration software. Check the compatibility guide on our website before purchasing.

Ratings & Reviews
This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
PatternSpace 2.3 adds clearer output diagnostics, offline profile checks and new LUT analysis views.
• Output Check reviews display and SDI configuration, profile and gamma-table observations, HDR headroom and a personal setup checklist.
• Signal Details separates received values, app mapping and prepared/emitted SDI software frames. Refresh, copy and export observations without changing output; send individual range or code-step probes explicitly. Physical output accuracy still requires external capture.
• ICC Profiles adds Verify: compare an offline ColorSync/Core Graphics conversion with a display profile’s matrix/TRC description and save JSON or CSV results. Identity comparisons are refused; Apple’s near-black inverse-slope cap is identified separately. This is a numerical check, not a display measurement.
• A Calibration Workflow guide explains characterization, verification, activation and measurement through the same SDR Reference preset.
• LUT Analysis adds Patterns: compare before/after calibration swatches and code values for grey ramps, primary/secondary ramps, gamut sweeps and ColorChecker 24 at the selected step or prepared export.
• Export… now lives in the LUT Tools bottom bar (⌘E) and exports the whole chain from any selected step. It prepares the artifact when needed, shows status and avoids doubled file extensions. Esc closes the window.
• New Settings controls let you turn off crash reports and anonymous performance measurements. Optional Share detailed diagnostics is off by default; it adds error messages, file/folder names, activity logs and a random installation identifier. Enabling it takes effect at next launch; disabling it takes effect immediately.
• Previews and output continue while the Export Diagnostics save panel is open.
• PatternSpace JSON SDK 1.1.0 adds capability-gated signal snapshots and guarded single-sample probes.
