Wayfinders is a premium, depth-heavy navigation game for anyone who has ever wondered what it actually took to cross an ocean without GPS. You'll sail with five of history's best-documented navigators — from the 4th century BC to the early 1500s — using only what they had: the sky, the wind, the birds, and their own nerve.
THE FIVE NAVIGATORS
• Pytheas of Massalia (c. 330 BC) — the first westerner to document the Arctic, from Marseilles to the British Isles to "Thule." Source: Strabo, Diodorus Siculus.
• Leif Erikson (c. 1000 AD) — Greenland to Vinland, ~500 years before Columbus. Source: the Icelandic sagas.
• Zheng He (1405–1433) — the Ming treasure fleets, Nanjing to Calicut and beyond. Source: Ma Huan's Ying-yai Sheng-lan.
• Christopher Columbus (1492) — Palos to the Canaries to the Bahamas. Source: Las Casas's preservation of Columbus's diary.
• Ferdinand Magellan (1519–1521) — Seville to the strait that bears his name, then the Pacific. Source: Pigafetta's Relazione.
