Use your license on every device. After you buy Pro on iPhone or iPad, EmpiricCommander now offers to create a free Empiric account or to sign in to the one you have. Your license covers one iPhone, one iPad and one Mac, and the account is how it reaches the other two. The same option stays in Settings > Account. A clearer Pro page. The list of what Pro includes now names the SSH terminal and Git, the code editor, Photos export, ZIP, 7z and RAR archives, Dropbox, and pausing and resuming transfers. The purchase terms are no longer cut off on smaller screens. Fixes. Signing in with email works when the address ends with a space. The trial screen no longer shows the sign-in form to someone who is already signed in. Also in 2.19: multiple cursors and a new EC Deep theme with font, line height and zoom settings in the editor, colors for ten more languages, and Convert Images. SMB uploads and an FTP upload stream straight to the server with no temporary copy on your device. On these uploads, a pause, a dropped connection or a server that goes away continues from the bytes already on the server instead of starting over, and Cancel stops an FTP upload right away.

Long-press acts on the file you pressed. On iPad, the first file in a folder starts out selected, and long-pressing another file then choosing Delete, Copy, Move or another action used to act on that first file. It now acts on the file you pressed, or on all selected files when you press one of them. The delete confirmation speaks your language. The dialog that names what will be deleted is now translated into German, French, Spanish and Romanian. A clear message for a key with a passphrase. An SSH or SFTP connection with a key that needs a passphrase now says that the passphrase is missing or does not unlock the key, instead of an internal error. Also in 2.19: SMB uploads and an FTP upload stream straight to the server with no temporary copy on your device. A pause or a dropped connection continues from the bytes already on the server instead of starting over, and Cancel stops an FTP upload right away.

A new look for the editor and preview. A new EC Deep theme, a monospace font of your choice and comfortable line height. The current line is highlighted, indent guides show the structure, and the status bar shows the indentation and, for local files, the Git branch. On iPad, an optional minimap is in Settings > Editors. Multiple cursors on iPad. With a hardware keyboard, Cmd+D selects the word under the caret, then adds its next occurrence as another caret. Typing, deleting, the arrow keys and Undo act at every caret at once. Cmd+plus, Cmd+minus and Cmd+0 zoom the text. More languages, recognized without an extension. C++, Objective-C, C#, Dart, Perl, TOML, INI, diff and patch, Dockerfile and Makefile now get colors. A file is recognized by its exact name, its extension, or the shebang on its first line. Convert images from any pane. Select photos in a local folder, on a NAS or in the cloud and convert them to JPEG, PNG or HEIC, optionally resized and with the location or all metadata removed. The result is always a new file: the original is never overwritten. FTP and SMB uploads resume. Uploads stream straight to the server with no temporary copy on your device. A pause or a dropped connection continues from the bytes already on the server instead of starting over.

Lighter server copies, a faster editor, New File and Pause. • Copies from SMB and FTP servers no longer load the whole file into memory. • Pause and resume a copy right in the transfer dialog. • New File creates an empty file with a free name, already selected so you can type the one you want. • The editor opens large files much faster and stays fluid while you type. It closes brackets and quotes for you, and with a hardware keyboard it moves, duplicates and deletes lines. • Files in UTF-16 and Windows-1252 open as text and save back in the same encoding. • The editor opens with the cursor in the text. • An FTP server that closed an idle session no longer makes the next download fail.

Lighter large transfers and clearer connection forms. - Large downloads from S3, Azure, WebDAV, Dropbox and Google Drive no longer load the whole file into memory before copying it on. - Sync Sets no longer hold a large file in memory while uploading it, and the destination pane refreshes on its own when a set finishes. - S3 and Azure connections name their fields the way the provider does: Access Key ID and Secret Access Key, Account Name and Access Key. - The path bar on a server starts with the connection name, without an extra slash. - The Go button in Go to Line is translated.

Shortcuts on your servers, a visible Sync Set, and a better editor. • Shortcuts: List Folder, Upload Files, Download Files, Sync Folders, Compress to ZIP and Run SSH Command work on your saved connections, without opening the app. Run SSH Command is off until you allow it per connection. • Sync Sets: a running set shows a pill with Stop above the list; when it ends, a short notice says what changed, and stays quiet when nothing did. • Transfers: choose how many files transfer at once (1-5) in Settings > Transfers; files waiting their turn say Queued. • Editor: Go to Line jumps to a line, and saving invalid JSON warns with the line number. With a keyboard on iPad, Tab and Shift+Tab indent or outdent the selected lines and Cmd+/ comments them out. • iPad: dragging several files from EmpiricCommander into the Files app copies all of them. • SFTP and SMB connections close when you stop using them. Fixes a licensing check.

A clearer start, and a round of fixes. - New install: a start screen explains why the EmpiricCommander folder starts empty and offers the three ways in: add a folder from iCloud Drive, a USB drive or another app (opened in place, nothing copied), connect a server, or export from Photos. The local folder is now called EmpiricCommander everywhere, as in the Files app. - Shelf sync between your devices: on iPhone it reaches iCloud Drive without a pane open there, a Shelf still downloading from iCloud is said so instead of "nothing waiting", and results show as a short notice instead of an alert to dismiss. Messages are translated. - Dragging a file from an SFTP server onto the Shelf downloads it; when something cannot be added, the Shelf says why. - Pause and Resume on a large SFTP transfer: a paused transfer stops downloading, Resume continues from where it stopped and starts over if the file changed meanwhile. A transfer resumed after a pause or after the app was closed now arrives under its real name. - iPhone in landscape: Get Info and the other panels, and the filter you typed, stay open when you rotate. - iPhone: Undo and Redo in the keyboard bar work again. iPad: Select All in selection mode.

- On iPad, long-pressing a file or folder on an SFTP or SMB connection closed EC; the menu opens again. - With the iPhone Duo folded, the file list reaches the side bar instead of stopping short of it.

- Two new built-in themes, EC Dark (navy) and EC Light (cream), carried through browsing, Settings, the editor and diffs. - On Pro Max and Plus iPhones, landscape shows both panes side by side. Selected files get one Copy / Move pill on the seam, with the arrow pointing at the other pane, and the transfer panel becomes a card in the corner instead of a full-width bar. - Select in the menu turns a tap into a checkmark, so you can pick several files and act on them at once. - A running transfer can be paused and resumed on iPhone, with the bytes done so far kept. - The code preview has a search button that highlights matches. - The branch pill updates as soon as you switch branch, and Switch Branch shows short names with the current one checked. - Matching brackets are highlighted next to the cursor and Enter keeps the line's indentation. - FTP listings show the same times as the server, old entries no longer show 00:00, and folders with accented names list their contents(thanks to Martin). - Older files in Latin-1 (for example "Müller") preview as text instead of "Binary file", and in the iPad terminal, a failed command no longer overwrites the file you redirect into. - The Modified column shows the year, and Google Drive shows date and time. - Adding Drive folders works on the Mac; on iPhone and iPad EC now says so before opening Google's picker, and shows an error instead of silence if the picker returns nothing. - The top capsules follow light mode in the morning; being offline no longer signs you out or removes Pro; an SFTP link to a folder opens as a folder; Undo after a move between servers works; a nested Git repository shows its own branch.

- Switching branch keeps your work. Switching branch in EC no longer discards uncommitted changes. Changes that do not conflict move with you to the new branch, and a switch that would overwrite them is refused with your files left as they were. - Git change icons. The changed-file icons in the file list come back after a branch switch instead of staying blank.

- iPhone Duo: a pane showing Photos stays where you were when you fold, including inside an album. - On iPhone, a pane in a Photos folder or in a subfolder of a server comes back there when you reopen the app. - Photos shows real names in the path bar ("All Photos", "Years / 2024 / March"), and its folders are translated into German, French, Spanish and Romanian. - In grid view, a name like "IMG_0001.JPG" no longer breaks inside its extension. - On iPad, choosing a result in Search opens its folder with the file selected.

- iPhone Duo: folding and unfolding keeps both panes where you were, including Photos. - Copying photos to a folder or a network share no longer reports "Operation Failed" for photos that arrived, and the summary at the end appears when the copy finishes instead of later over another screen. - Copying the same photos again asks first: Replace, Keep Both or Skip. Kept copies are numbered the same way everywhere. - A destination folder you deleted and made again is treated as empty, so its photos are offered again. - On iPhone, the row at the top of a folder shows where you are; a long press on Up or on that row lists every folder above it. - The screen shown when the trial ends scrolls, so Sign In is always reachable. - Open folders in the tree view refresh after a copy and stay open.

- iPhone Duo: a preview opened while unfolded stays open when you fold, and the pane you were working in stays on screen. - A folder the server refuses no longer says "Connection lost": you see a lock and the server's reason, with Go Back, Try Again and Edit Connection. - Editing a connection updates the tabs already open on it, from wherever you edit it. A start folder that does not exist offers Edit Connection. - The bar at the bottom shows the name of the selected item; several selected show how many and their total size. - Find in the text editor highlights the match it jumps to. - With a hardware keyboard, Filter and the terminal get every letter you type, not only the first. - A WebDAV server error shows as a connection problem, not a lock. - The Photos access buttons are translated.

- Ready for the iPhone Duo: unfolded, EmpiricCommander opens two panes side by side in both orientations; folded, it goes back to the single-pane layout. - A new text preview: select across as many lines as you like and copy it in one piece, with line wrapping on or off, without the line numbers. Numbers sit beside their line at every text size, and previews are no longer cut at 100 lines: text files up to 100 MB open in full. - Safer SFTP in the Files app: it now connects only to a server whose key you approved in EmpiricCommander. A server you never approved asks you to approve it first; a server whose key changed shows a warning instead of your files. - The text editor on iPhone has Undo, Redo, Wrap and Done above the keyboard. - A Markdown file dragged onto the other pane on iPad is copied again. - Filter fields no longer autocorrect or capitalise what you type. - Sheets such as Auto-Organize and Settings follow your theme.

SFTP and the SSH terminal connect to servers that only offer AES-CTR encryption. A server configured that way, such as ProFTPD with mod_sftp and a restricted cipher list, closed the connection as soon as the app reached it, while other clients got in. The same fix covers browsing those servers from the Files app.

A copy that gets interrupted no longer costs you the file that was already there. Uploading to an SMB, SFTP or FTP share used to write straight onto the existing file, and that write empties it before the first byte goes out - so a dropped connection, a locked phone or a Cancel could leave a fraction of a file where a finished one used to be, with the original gone. The bytes now land beside it and only take its place once they are all there. The app asks before it overwrites. A file it had written itself could be left hidden on the share, and the check that looks for collisions could not see it, so copying the same file again went through without a question. It sees hidden files now, and nothing it copies to a share is left invisible. Fixed: a tab open in iCloud Drive shows the cloud instead of a plain folder.

- A single large file no longer sits at 0% and then jumps to finished. - The transfer bar names the places you are copying between, instead of calling both ends by the same name. - The pane you navigate in becomes the active one, so the next action goes where you are looking, and the inactive pane reads as inactive. Opening a tab in the other pane activates it too. - Cancelling a copy now really stops it, instead of finishing quietly and leaving the file there. - Undoing a large move shows a progress bar instead of looking frozen. - A port you typed yourself is kept when you change the connection type. It used to be silently replaced, and the error that followed blamed the server. Coming from an older version? You are also getting everything in 2.14.0: a cancelled copy to a network share no longer deletes the file that was already there, a name differing only in capital letters asks instead of being overwritten, shares negotiate SMB 3 up to 3.1.1, RAR archives open on iPhone and iPad with no extra tool, and the Shelf crosses devices.

2.14.0 is about not losing a file when you copy to a network share. - Cancelling a copy no longer deletes the file that was already there. - A file whose name differs only in capital letters now asks - Replace, Keep both or Skip - instead of being overwritten silently. - A second copy started right after cancelling the first one works. - A large copy started after some browsing no longer begins with a retry. - Shares now negotiate SMB 3.0.2 and sign with AES-CMAC, with a per-connection switch that refuses a server which will not encrypt. - RAR archives open on iPhone and iPad with no extra tool. EmpiricCommander reads RAR and never creates one. - Extracting the same archive twice gets its own folder instead of colliding, and a failed extraction no longer leaves an empty one behind. - The Shelf crosses devices: point it at iCloud Drive once and files staged on your Mac appear on the phone. - A folder list has a row to the folder above it, so you can go up without a keyboard. - Leaving a folder returns you to the row you came from, in the list and in the grid. - About lists every open-source component we ship, with its licence. Coming from an older version? Two readers in three are. You are also getting everything since: a real two-pane layout in landscape on the Pro Max sizes, with a rail for Sources, Connections, Shelf and Settings; 7z, tar, tar.gz, tar.bz2 and tar.xz archives opened in the app itself; an interrupted SFTP or FTP transfer that resumes where it stopped, where SMB uploads still restart from the beginning; and every error message translated, where hundreds of them used to appear in English whatever your language.

Archives - 7z, tar, tar.gz, tar.bz2 and tar.xz open on iPhone and iPad, where until now only ZIP did. - On the Mac the same formats no longer need p7zip or any command-line tool installed: the app reads them itself. - A .tar.gz is finally read as a tar inside a gzip, not as an unknown file. - A single .gz, .bz2 or .xz file opens directly. - An archive too large to decode in memory says so instead of the app disappearing. Favorites - A folder on a server can be a favorite: drag it onto the sidebar from a server pane, or use "Add to Favorites" in the menu. - Opening a remote favorite reuses the connection you already have open instead of starting a second session, and the pane shows the folder's contents straight away. - A favorite whose connection you deleted says so instead of failing with a generic error. - Favorites saved by earlier versions stay exactly as they were. Editor - If the file changed on disk while you had it open, Save asks what to do - overwrite, save a copy, or reload - instead of writing over someone else's work. - Coming back to the app tells you when the file changed behind your back.

Keyboard and editing - Cmd+F in the editor opens the editor's find bar, not the pane filter. - Esc in the find bar closes the bar, not the whole window. - Cmd+Z in the editor undoes your typing rather than your last file operation, and it does so step by step instead of throwing away the whole session. - The sidebar filter field no longer takes the keyboard away from the pane. - The wrap toggle is there in the editor opened in its own window, too. Panes and navigation - A selected row looks selected on every theme, and the pane's own lines follow the theme instead of staying system grey. - Leaving a folder with the arrow key puts the cursor back on the folder you came out of. - Home on a remote pane opens your local home folder instead of asking the server for a path it does not have. - Opt+Arrow sends the current folder to the other pane. - A pane that is empty because macOS refused access says so, instead of looking like an empty folder. Transfers - A transfer whose network dropped no longer sits frozen at a percentage: it says it is retrying, and says when it gives up. - When an interrupted transfer fails, the partial file left on the server is deleted - including when the deletion itself cannot be sent at that moment, in which case it is retried on its own once the network is back. - A failed transfer says why in a sentence instead of an internal error code. iPhone and iPad - Favorites is on iPhone, with "Add to Favorites" in the context menu. - The folder-size column appears on iPhone when you turn it on. - In Sync Sets, "Triggers, limits and log" opens on the first tap. Also - SMB: a server that refuses the protocol says that, instead of reporting it as a permission problem on the folder. - The copy dialog no longer describes a photo copy incorrectly. Updating from 2.8 or older? Two things arrived in between that this release builds on. 2.12 added Sync Sets: a saved folder pair with a run log and triggers - manual, from Shortcuts, at app launch, and on Mac also every N hours or when a volume mounts. An unattended run stops itself if it would delete too much of the destination. 2.12.1 made the app speak your language when something goes wrong: 276 sentences, including the error messages, shipped in English in every language before that.

Error messages now appear in your language. If you use the app in German, Spanish, French or Romanian, the sentences you see when something fails - a connection dropped, a file was not found, an archive could not be opened - were still in English. All of them are translated now, along with the rest of the interface that had the same problem. Network • An SMB connection survives switching to another app. Leave for another app, come back, open a file: it reconnects instead of reporting that the connection was lost. The message you get if a server really did close the session now says that, rather than blaming your Wi-Fi. Everyday • The Shortcuts action that opens a folder works when the pane you left active was on a remote connection. • Themes apply completely when the system switches to dark, instead of leaving part of the screen behind. Updating from 2.11.0 or older? You also get 2.12.0, whose main fix was that cancelling a copy could delete the file that was already there. Nothing to do - it all comes with this update.

Cancelling a copy no longer deletes the file that was already there. If you stopped a copy that was about to overwrite an existing file, the cleanup could remove the original rather than just the half-written part. This was most visible on network shares, and it is the one reason to update even if you use nothing else here. Landscape and rotation • Open a text preview, an image or Quick Look, rotate the phone, and it stays open. It used to close itself. • On Pro Max in landscape, the dual pane and the transfer overlay now fit the real width instead of overlapping. • The four Git screens follow the same layout rules as the rest of the app, in both orientations. • Auto-Organize reaches the bottom edge in portrait. Your account • Signing out on empiricapps.com, or deleting your account there, now signs the app out within seconds. It no longer stays open on an account that no longer exists. Everyday • Open the folder you are in inside the other pane, from the arrow next to the folder path. Updating from 2.9.0 or older? You also get everything from the releases in between, which is a longer list than this one. Nothing to do - it all comes with this update.

- An interrupted transfer picks up where it stopped. Copying a large file over SFTP or FTP used to start again from zero every time the connection dropped or the phone locked - on a 2 GB file over a shaky link that could mean never finishing at all. The transfer now resumes from the last byte it can prove is on disk, and the card says "Resuming from 840 MB" so you can see that it did. If the file changed on the server while you were away, it restarts and says why instead of stitching two versions together. SMB uploads still start over: the write the app uses truncates the file, and the card no longer pretends otherwise. - Two panes on iPhone in landscape. Turn a Plus or Pro Max sideways and you get the real dual-pane layout - two panes side by side, one selection bar for the active one, and a rail down the side for Sources, Connections, the Shelf and Settings. Copying between two folders on a phone is finally the same gesture it is on a Mac. - The Shelf works between your iPhone and your Mac. Anything you drop on the Shelf on one device shows up on the other through iCloud Drive, including files pulled from a remote connection like Dropbox or an SFTP server - those are downloaded first, so they can actually be pasted. Syncing tells you what it sent, what it received, or that everything already matches, and adding a large remote file shows that it is downloading.

Files with no extension open properly on iPhone. A file like authorized_keys showed the grey "data" card instead of its contents and had no Edit entry at all. It previews as text and can be edited now. Files the app knows by name - Makefile, LICENSE - are edited in the app instead of being handed to another one, on the Mac as well. Clearing the last diagnostics message works. In Settings > Account, the "ended without warning" line stayed on screen after Clear was tapped, even though it had been cleared. It now disappears immediately, on the Mac and on iPhone.

OneDrive. Connect with a personal Microsoft account and work in it like any other connection - browse, copy in and out, move, rename, delete. Work and school accounts are not supported yet; those need an administrator's consent we have not been able to verify. SSH keys that never leave the device. Generate a key inside the Secure Enclave from the connection form, optionally behind Face ID or Touch ID. The private half cannot be exported or read by anything, EmpiricCommander included. One limit: Git over SSH still needs an imported key, because it reads the private key as text. Renames, copies and new folders now undo from the toast. On an iPad with a hardware keyboard, F3 and F4 view and edit by what a file contains rather than by its name - a text file with no extension opens as text, anything binary opens in the new hex viewer. On iPhone both stay in the file menu. Also on iPad: select a run of files by swiping across them with two fingers, and reach iCloud Drive straight from the sidebar. Fixed: a pane showing local files could report a network error left over from a connection you had navigated away from. And the first time a purchase is linked to an Empiric account, the app now tells you which account it landed on instead of doing it silently.
