See the whole file at a glance, inspect one to eight bytes down to the bit, and make precise undoable changes. Hexgeist is a native Mac hex editor for the moment a file stops being obvious. Open a binary and see both the bytes and the shape of the file. The persistent Spectral Map shows structure, entropy, text-heavy and zero-heavy regions, your viewport, selections, bookmarks, search matches, and differences in one strip. Select one to eight bytes and Bit Lab lets you inspect every bit, stage changes, and preview the resulting hex, signed, and unsigned values before applying a single undoable overwrite. Changing endianness changes interpretation, never physical byte order. Use Navigator and Lens when you need context: • Browse Mach-O and ELF structure • Decode numbers and text with little- or big-endian interpretation • Preview supported embedded images, PDFs, property lists, ZIPs, and Mach-O binaries • Calculate SHA-256, SHA-1, MD5, and CRC32 hashes • Extract readable strings and jump straight to their bytes Work precisely: • Find byte patterns or text and jump to exact offsets • Add colored bookmarks and notes • Compare against another file or the saved version • Export and apply Hexgeist patches • Edit in Inspect, Overwrite, or Insert workflows with undo and redo Hexgeist is local-first. Your files stay on your Mac. No account, cloud service, or network connection is required for core features.

New: Agent Access for MCP. Enable Agent Access in Settings to let compatible local AI coding agents such as Codex and Claude use Hexgeist as a structured binary workbench. Instead of chaining together file, xxd, strings, cmp, and one-off scripts, an agent can inspect formats and byte ranges, search exact bytes, text, or integers, compare binaries with alignment-aware differences, extract detected resources, and save range-linked findings through one consistent interface. Hexgeist keeps the workflow local and deliberate: it starts an authenticated MCP server that listens only on the local loopback interface, accesses only folders you grant, and requires edits to be staged for review before commit. Agent Access is off by default and runs only while Hexgeist is open. Also new: Spectral Map and Bit Lab provide persistent whole-file context and precise, undoable byte editing. Editing, analysis refresh, and undo/redo reliability are improved throughout the app.
