SHANKED: Golf GPS & Scorecard
Handicap, Caddy & Live Scoring
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPhone. Not verified for macOS.
Golf is better with your group. SHANKED keeps the score honest.
Live scoring your fourball can follow, a handicap index worked out from your full 18-hole rounds, and a Caddie in your pocket. No pretending you're a tour pro.
WHAT YOU GET, FREE
- Live scoring. Everyone scores on their own phone, and your group can follow each other's cards hole by hole.
- Your SHANKED Handicap Index: score differentials, net double bogey, best 8 of 20, soft and hard caps, worked out with WHS rules from full 18-hole rounds. An estimate, not an official England Golf Handicap Index.
- Strokeplay, Stableford and match play, singles or fourball better-ball.
- The Caddie. A club for the shot from the distances saved in your bag, with the wind and temperature worked in.
- GPS distance to the middle of the green, and satellite hole maps, on holes golfers have mapped.
- The Clubhouse. A monthly championship for your crew, a journal of everyone's rounds, and 26 honours to win.
- Fairways, greens and putts, and every round you have ever played.
- Report anything that isn't OK, and block anyone you'd rather not see.
PRO ADDS
- Skins.
- Estimated strokes gained, saving par and advanced stats.
- GPS shot tracking, so the Caddie can use how far each club really finishes.
- Uphill and downhill in the Caddie's number, and your shot spread on the map.
- Scan a paper scorecard to fill in par, stroke index and yardage.
- Apple Watch: the yardage, the Caddie's club and scoring on your wrist. Plus a Live Activity and a Lock Screen handicap widget.
Free to use, properly - not a trial. Pro is an optional subscription you can cancel any time.
SHANKED is not affiliated with or endorsed by The R&A, the USGA or England Golf.
Making golf more social, one hosel rocket at a time.
more Better starts, a clearer map, and a scan you can trust.
- Start Round now shows a venue and its courses together. A course needs a scorecard before you can play it, so you never start a round on guessed pars or ratings.
- Scan, snap or type your scorecard in one editor. Check each hole, tap Confirm, and only then does your card count. A failed scan is never charged.
- On the course, tap Round settings for the map view, the hole's par and stroke index, and ending your round, all in one place.
- Hole prompts now wait for the hole's data, then appear one at a time, so you don't get asked for something we already know.
- The map draws green, bunkers and water as soft washes under a clean play line.
- Your handicap, profile and plan stay put while the app loads. Nothing gets overwritten and nothing flickers.
- Plenty of small fixes to saves, Home, notifications and groups.
Someone is still definitely blaming the wind.

What's New, 1.0.13
A new look, and sharper golf underneath.
- Redesigned throughout: a new Home, the Clubhouse with a monthly championship and a club journal, Stats on one page, Your rounds, and the story of your handicap.
- On the course the map is the view. Tap Caddie for the club, the reasoning and the wind. Tap Score to enter the hole.
- Caddie has three parts: My clubs, Whole bag and Practice, with carry and total for every club and 24 drills.
- Gave us your club index when you signed up? It stays yours. Once your SHANKED Handicap Index arrives after three full rounds, we ask which one you want to play off.
- Report a post, a comment, a golfer or a group that isn't OK. Block anyone you'd rather not see.
- The Caddie's wind now follows the line of your shot, so headwinds, tailwinds and quartering winds all count.
- Handicap maths now matches the WHS rules in a few rare cases, such as exact ties and exceptional scores, so a handful of indexes may move by about 0.1.
- Invite a mate with a link or a QR code.
Someone is still definitely blaming the wind.

Handicaps, properly.
Several corrections to how your index is worked out. A nine-hole
round can no longer be scored against the eighteen's course rating.
Deleting a round now recalculates your cap against the rounds you
actually have left. Plus-handicappers get the right number. If your
index shifts slightly after updating, this is why — and it's the
right one now.
Your caddy knows your wedges apart.
Wedges show by loft instead of by badge, everywhere. The caddy
stops offering a club that would sail the green, and is steadier
when it's working from only a few tracked shots.
Settings you can actually read.
The settings list is now a grid of tiles, each showing what it's
currently set to. Privacy, notifications, units and the rest are
grouped by what they're for.
You decide who finds you.
New discoverability settings, plus blocking. "Share stats" off now
means genuinely invisible, not just unranked.
Notifications that fix themselves.
Push registration now repairs itself instead of quietly staying
broken. If it ever can't register, the app says so — and tells you
what to do about it.
Faster from cold.
A noticeably quicker first load, which matters most on a first tee
with one bar.
Also: Flamborough Head, Middlesbrough and Chester-le-Street carded
from their printed scorecards. Duplicate clubs in your bag are now
impossible. Better text contrast throughout. Your live round shows
on the course leaderboard even when paused. And the app stops
claiming it's broken when it's actually just your signal.
Founding Golfers: if you were here early, your profile now says so.
Pro V1.62 Sep 20
Tee times. Book a game and let your mates take the spots. Leave a spot open for anyone. Share the tee time straight from the app.
Your stats, your rules. Choose whether 9-hole and partial rounds count. Defaults to 18-hole rounds, last five.
Plays like. The caddy now weighs wind, elevation and temperature together. Pro.
The caddy stops guessing. No more lob wedge for 250 yards when it cannot read the distance. An aim point no longer follows you to the next tee. Wedges show their loft.
Tees rated for you. A tee colour with no rating for your gender shows as unrated rather than borrowing the wrong numbers. Your shots are right on every course.
Round editing, redesigned. One row per hole. Fairways and greens on every hole, including par 3s.
Patchy signal, sorted. Scores save on your phone and upload themselves when signal returns, even if you leave the app open on the save screen. One quiet heads-up per round, not a nag.
Apple Watch. A score entered on the wrist while the phone is waking up is no longer lost.
Faster to open. The round screen loads when you need it, so cold starts are lighter.
My Bag. A duplicate club is now impossible. One club, one set of yardages. Shots you capture remember where you hit them from.
Clubhouse. Comment on your own round at last. Notification taps land on the right screen. Friends' rounds read newest first.
Share stats off means invisible. Turn it off and you leave the leaderboards entirely.
Easier to read. Text contrast improved across the app.
Notifications ask at the right moment, after your first saved round. Signing in with Apple no longer leaves you stuck without a name.
Course cards corrected from the printed scorecards: Middlesbrough Brass Castle, Chester-le-Street, Flamborough, Billingham. Hartlepool is one club again. Nine-hole ratings are recognised.
Deleting your account works for everyone again.
Probably. We've shanked worse.
Pro V1.61 Sep 7
Scoring you can trust
• Your full course handicap is allocated every time
• Back nine rounds use the back nine's own stroke indexes, not the front's
• The live net no longer jumps at the turn
• 9-hole and back-nine rounds supported end to end
• A walked-in round stops reading as the round of your life
Rounds that survive a bad signal
• A round saved out of signal keeps its handicap point, its flag and its medal
• Losing your session mid-round no longer takes the scorecard with it
• A retried save can't file the same round twice
Starting a round
• New Round is full screen, on the course you're about to play
• Course search answers as you type, from your own courses first
• Scan the card to set up a course we don't know, and fix a wrong tee rating
where you find it
Your bag
• All 14 clubs are free
• The caddy picks a club that actually gets there, instead of one whose average
matches the number
• Distances in metres if that's how you play
A proper redesign
• Faster on the first tee — the app uses your phone's own typeface now
• Notifications and the feed are one Activity screen
• New scorecard, Score History and Handicap Details
• Consistent headers throughout, and a lighter Kudos & comments section at the
foot of every card
Plus a long list of smaller fixes to sign-up, invites, friends and leaderboards.
Pro V1.51 Aug 25
Play together, properly.
• Add your playing partners to any round — strokeplay included. Everyone
scores on their own phone, one card, updating as you go.
• Not on Shanked? Text them an invite from the first tee and they're on the
card by the second.
• Share your card the moment you hole out. It arrives in WhatsApp and
iMessage as a proper scorecard, not a bare link.
• Sign up and reset your password with a 6-digit code. Quick, and no
wrestling with email links.
• New golfers get a "rounds to your first handicap" tracker, so the finish
line is visible from day one.
Sharper on the course
• Your card keeps saving with no signal and syncs the moment you're back in
range.
• Live scores stay in step with your group, even when your phone's been in
your pocket for a few holes.
• Everyone in the fourball sees the same satellite hole map.
• Scrambling stats, tidier course history, and sharper fairway and green
tracking.
• Your notifications mark themselves read when you open them.
Someone is still definitely blaming the wind.
Pro V1.4 Aug 4
App Store — What's New in 1.0.5
Making golf more social, one hosel rocket at a time. This one's mostly about trust — signing up, saving your round, and knowing where the pin actually is.
Signing up actually works now. Confirm your email with a tap or a 6-digit code — no more "invalid link" dead-ends. Same for resetting your password.
Your round is safe. We rebuilt how scores save, so a dropped signal, a locked phone or a pocket-check can't lose your card or leave a ghost round hanging about.
Better maps and yardages on course — sharper hole layouts and distance-to-pin, and your group finally sees the same green (looking at you, back nine).
A tidier Clubhouse — Kudos, a course champion, and everyone's form at a glance.
Smarter insights — shot dispersion, how you stack up vs the field, and strokes gained. We'll even suggest a drill for whatever's leaking shots. No lectures.
Plus a stack of small fixes and fewer spinners. We read every message — even the spicy ones.
ProV1.3 Jul 14
• Shot spread: tap a club in My Bag to see your full dispersion, not just an average.
• You vs the field: see how you played each hole against everyone who's logged the course.
• A rebuilt Clubhouse — Spotlight, form-aware leaderboards, and a monthly Champion.
• Fairer leaderboards (best-rounds Club Championship + Most Improved).
• My Bag rebuilt with a Bag Rating and coaching cards.
• "Plays like" elevation-adjusted distances (Pro).
• Cleaner handicap maths, steadier back-nine GPS, faster loads, and plenty of fixes.
Someone is still blaming the wind.
ProV1.2 Jul 9
New this update:
• Aim anywhere on the hole. Drop a target on the map and drag it where you actually want to land it - we'll show the carry to your spot and what's left to the pin, each with a club. Doglegs finally make sense.
• Distance rings. A faint range grid around the green, on tap. Off by default so the map stays clean.
• Out on the Course, live. When your mates are round the same track at the same time, see how you all stack up in real time.
• A fresh look. Bigger, bolder scores on the feed and scorecards, cleaner round cards, tidier achievements.
• Mates' 9-holers and abandoned rounds now ping you too - not just full 18s.
• Scorecard scanning is more reliable.
Under the bonnet:
• Fixed the odd bounce back to Home and screens closing on their own.
• Scores save more reliably on patchy clubhouse-car-park signal.
• Faster, smoother feed and a quicker return when you reopen the app.
• Face ID / Touch ID sign-in fix, plus scoring fixes for Stableford and Skins.

ProV1.1 Jul 2
What's New in ProV1
ProV1 has landed. Premium name. Same shanks. Here's what's new:
My Bag, rebuilt. A calmer Bag Health view, a visual distance map of your clubs, and insights you can tap straight into. Now you know exactly how far everything flies. In theory.
Rounds that stay put. Fixed the mid-round sign-out, the scorecard that vanished when you reopened the app, and the "stuck on Loading." Your round saves even when the signal's off in the trees with your ball.
A sharper round screen. Clearer wind, a tidier distance HUD, and a smarter Track-a-shot sheet.
Sharper GPS. Quicker fixes, fewer stalls, and it keeps tracking from your pocket.
Scan your scorecard. Snap the card and we'll read it in. New course with no rating? We'll find the tees too.
A caddie worth listening to. Proper feedback at every handicap — not "play more rounds" when you've clearly played plenty.
Find your fourball. Better friend suggestions and a tidier mutual-friends view
Plus Face ID that actually works, a friendlier welcome for new players, and text you can read in the sun.
Found one we missed? Tell us. We read every message — even the spicy ones.
