HDMI Bar brings any HDMI source directly to your Mac — no browser, no streaming, no compromises. Connect a USB capture card, plug in your TV box, gaming console, camera, or any other HDMI device, and watch it instantly in a clean native window. HDMI Bar was built from the ground up for macOS using AVFoundation and CoreGraphics — no Electron, no web views, just pure Swift running at full speed. PICTURE-IN-PICTURE Float the video over any app with a double-click. The always-on-top window stays in view while you work, browse, or take notes. Resize it freely — it snaps to 16:9 automatically. RECORD ANYTHING One tap to start recording. HDMI Bar captures video and audio together in H.264/AAC, saved directly to your Movies folder or any folder you choose. Three quality settings: Compatible (8 Mbps), High Quality (16 Mbps), and Maximum (25 Mbps). REAL-TIME PERFORMANCE • Native AVFoundation pipeline — frames go straight to the GPU • AVSampleBufferDisplayLayer holds the last frame during brief drops • Separate audio and video sessions for maximum USB 2.0 throughput • Live FPS meter so you always know what you're getting • Frame buffer settings to tune for your hardware CLEAN INTERFACE Everything is hidden until you need it. Hover over the video to reveal the controls: record, volume, buffer, settings. Move away and they disappear. The window is just the video. WORKS WITH • TV boxes (Android TV, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV) • Gaming consoles (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch) • Cameras and camcorders with HDMI out • Headless Macs via HDMI output • Any UVC-compatible USB capture card DISPLAY HZ TIP For headless Mac sources (Mac Mini without a monitor), set the source Mac's Displays → Refresh Rate to 24 Hz or 25 Hz for best results with USB 2.0 capture cards. PRIVACY HDMI Bar does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data. Camera and microphone access are used exclusively to capture the HDMI signal from your capture card and play it back to you. No analytics, no tracking, no ads.
