I wanted to bring up several issues I’m having with the new API Patrol app that are making it difficult to use effectively while performing my duties.1. Font and visibilityThe font in the app is extremely small and difficult to read. The text is also very dark against a dark background, making it even harder to see. I’m having to strain my eyes just to read the information on the screen. 2. Incident reportingThe incident reporting process is also difficult and, honestly, makes me hesitant to complete reports because of how cumbersome the system is.The 5 W’s (Who, What, When, Where and Why) don’t always apply to security incident reports. However, the system requires every question to be answered. Even when a question does not pertain to the particular incident, it cannot be left blank or the report cannot be submitted.There should be an option such as “N/A” when a question does not apply, rather than requiring us to enter information that is irrelevant to the incident.3. Passdown informationThere also doesn’t appear to be a place within the app for officers to post passdown information or receive passdown information from the previous shift.Passdown is important for security because it allows the incoming officer to know about issues, incidents, equipment problems, unsecured areas, or other things that occurred during the previous shift. Without a designated place for this information, important details can easily be missed between shifts.
