Splits 2.7 adds captions. - Burn captions into each clip, or write a .srt file beside it. Times start at 00:00 of that clip. - Captions reuse the transcript from Context cuts, or Splits transcribes the clip on your Mac. - Modern and Block are free. Splits Pro adds nine more styles, from Classic to Tape. - A new icon: two columns, and the split between them. The welcome animation folds into it. - The welcome screen is shorter, and the app no longer repeats what a control already says. Nothing leaves your Mac.

Splits 2.6.1 is about working with more than one cut at a time. - Select several cuts with Command-click or Shift-click, then delete them, apply a setting to them, or export only those. - The cuts grid fades at its edge when more cuts wait below it, and the timeline marks where every cut begins. - The Resolution menu prints the frame it will write, the way the framing section already did. - An export that covers part of a job says how many cuts it wrote. - The window keeps a minimum size, so a small window no longer crushes the layout. Nothing leaves your Mac.

Splits 2.6 gets you to the first useful export faster. - A new welcome flow shows the whole job in four steps: open, split, review, export. - The empty workspace can run a three-second demo without asking for a file. - Context cuts show a preview before the Pro decision. - Pro gates explain the job they unlock using the current file and export settings. - Recent exports stay in the empty workspace, with Reveal and Process Again when those files are available. - Buttons respond more clearly to the pointer. - Splits can ask for an App Store rating after a successful export. macOS decides whether to show the request. Nothing leaves your Mac.

Splits 2.5 listens. - Context cuts (Pro): in Smart Cuts, switch Detect from Scene to Context. Splits transcribes the talk on your Mac and cuts where the topic changes. Every cut gets a title, and {title} works in clip names. - Guide it by a target clip length (15, 30, 60 or 90 s, or a slider) or by a number of cuts. The guide is a hint; the cuts still follow the talk. Optional: cut around pauses. - Models are your choice, in Settings (⌘,): Apple Speech on macOS 26 needs no download; Whisper Tiny, Base and Small are free downloads, Medium and Large Turbo are Pro. Chapters come from Apple Intelligence when it is on, or from Gemma 4 E2B (a 3.6 GB download; Google's Gemma terms apply). - Nothing leaves your Mac. The only network use is the model download you ask for. - The cuts grid prints the chapter title on each card. - Welcome and Help describe the new method.

Splits 2.4 is a new face for the same tool - the industrial identity now shared with Cuts: - A calmer, achromatic window in light and dark: mono instrument labels, the video on a true cinema field, and a flat, quiet chrome. - Progress you can read: block progress with a bracketed status - [DETECTING SCENES 42%], [CUTS READY], [EXPORTED → folder]. - Denser facts everywhere: 1:35 · 23.1 MB · 1920×720 · 28 CUTS on the queue card, and the same telemetry above the cuts grid. - Cut cards: hover to Duplicate or Delete a cut; duplicating a cut is a Pro feature, like adding one. - Empty states as a dot field with one line - no illustration. - Every entrance is staggered once and honours Reduce Motion. - The Pro page names resolution, not "quality": 720p free - 1080p, 4K or the original file with Pro. Everything still runs entirely on-device.

Splits 2.3 makes the app easier to learn and nicer to browse. - A guided tour on first launch points out each step on the real controls - the drop zone, Smart Cuts, the cuts grid, and Export - and advances with your own progress. Replay it any time from Help. - The welcome screen now shows the whole flow visually, step by step. - Browse the 11 cinematic looks as a deck of film cards: flick through with the trackpad, the arrow keys, or the side arrows, and click to apply. - The Splits Pro page shows what Pro unlocks at a glance - full quality, social framing, looks, unlimited batch, and professional formats. Everything still runs entirely on-device.

Splits is a noticeably smaller download. The bundled media helper that reads a file's format details used to carry every video and audio encoder along with it, none of which it can ever run — it only reads metadata. It is now built on its own, without them, so the app takes about 38 MB less to download and to keep on disk. Splitting, framing, color and every export format work exactly as they did in 2.2.

Splits 2.2 adds faster ways to divide a video, a complete finishing pipeline, and far more export formats. • Split by a fixed duration or into an exact number of equal parts. • Fine-tune every cut with precise, editable In and Out timecodes. • Export video as MP4, MOV, M4V, MKV or WebM — H.264, HEVC, ProRes, VP8, VP9, AV1 or lossless FFV1 (Pro). • Save frame sequences as JPEG, PNG, TIFF, HEIC, AVIF, WebP or OpenEXR, and animations as GIF, APNG or animated WebP. • Export each cut's audio on its own: AAC, ALAC, MP3, FLAC, Opus, WAV, AIFF or CAF (Pro). • Import more source formats — MKV, WebM, AVI, MPEG-TS and other broad containers now open and convert on-device. • Reframe for vertical 9:16 or square 1:1 delivery with zoom and pan. • Apply Auto Enhance or choose from 11 cinematic looks. • Preview the same HDR-aware color treatment used by every export. • Use start, end and duration timecodes in custom output names. • See before export whether a job will be lossless, re-encoded or mixed. • Video exports now include audio by default. This update also improves split validation, preview responsiveness, export preflight and handling of HDR sources. Everything still runs entirely on-device.
