PackZIP is a local macOS utility for compressing and extracting archives—clean UI, no banner ads or nagging promos. Work stays on your device within the paths you authorize and Apple’s sandbox rules—no “cloud unzip” or developer-hosted storage of your files.
Compress
• Create ZIP, 7z, and TAR archives.
• Passwords are available where the format allows (see in-app guidance). TAR is a plain archive format here.
• Optional “skip Mac temporary/metadata files” (e.g. .DS_Store, __MACOSX, AppleDouble ._*) to share archives more cleanly with Windows users.
Extract
• Open ZIP, 7z, RAR (including common multi-part names), TAR, and XZ.
• Open common disc/disk-image containers such as ISO, UDF, DMG, IMG (exact coverage is shown in-app).
• For unencrypted ZIP, name collisions at the destination are detected and you can choose to replace; password-protected ZIP flows may use Apple’s unzip and follow its behavior.
Browse & tidy
• Browse archive lists entries inside supported archives. For writable formats, you can add files or remove selected entries after confirmation (read-only formats such as RAR are extract-oriented—follow on-screen hints).
System & integration
• Requires macOS 12 or later (see the product page / in-app text).
• Includes a Finder Sync extension and Services entries labeled PackZIP. Enable under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Extensions → Finder (on some macOS versions: General → Login Items & Extensions → Extensions → Finder).
