You remember a word, but not which file it was in. Type it into Find Text and see every document that contains it, with the word highlighted right where it appears. Find Text searches inside the PDFs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, and text files on your Mac, and lets you jump from one match to the next. Free to start, private on your Mac, and no sign-in or account required. HOW IT WORKS 1. Add the folders you want to search, including iCloud Drive folders. 2. Build the index once. 3. Type a word and press Return. WHAT YOU CAN DO • Search inside documents: find words in PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Markdown, JSON, HTML, CSV, and plain text files. • See every match: each keyword gets its own highlight color and match counter in the preview, so you can step through long documents without scrolling. • Narrow results fast: combine file name, file type, and content keywords. For example, find "payment" only in PDFs, or notes named "2026" that mention "budget". • Search scanned PDFs and photos (Pro): built-in OCR reads text in scanned documents, screenshots, and images (JPG, PNG, HEIC, TIFF, BMP). • Exclude what you don't want (Pro): drop drafts or samples with exclude keywords. • Work with Finder: Open, Open With, Reveal in Finder, Show Path, and Copy Path. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Everything happens on your Mac. Find Text only reads the folders you choose, builds its index locally, and never uploads your files, document text, or search history.
