Now with Trips, Time Travel back to 1940, storm risk, snow totals and hurricane tracking. Every number says where it came from. One purchase, no subscription.
Skylight is a weather app for people who want to know how much to trust the
forecast — not just what it says.
Every number tells you where it came from. Radar frames are labelled observed
or forecast, never blurred together. Storm risk says it is reading forecast
instability, not detected lightning. A trip three weeks out is answered by the
climate record, and says so, instead of pretending to be a forecast. Where a
provider has no data, Skylight shows you nothing rather than a confident zero.
On iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. One purchase covers all three.

WHERE THE DATA COMES FROM
Forecasts come from Apple Weather, with Open-Meteo — drawing on the ECMWF, GFS
and ICON models — as a fallback where Apple has no coverage. Air quality comes
from the EPA's AirNow monitor network. Tides and hurricane tracking come from
NOAA. Historical weather is reanalysis of the global climate record, which is a
reconstruction rather than a reading taken in your garden, and Skylight says so
where it matters.
Skylight Brief is composed from the forecast by rules, so the same conditions
always produce the same words. Explain my forecast uses Apple Intelligence on
your device — nothing is sent to a server, and it is held to the facts Skylight
gives it.
No account. No ads. No tracking. Your location is used to fetch weather and is
never stored or sold.

This one is mostly repair. An audit found several things Skylight was getting
wrong — a few of them quietly — and this release fixes them.
THINGS THAT WERE WRONG
• Pollen. Our provider covers Europe only, and outside it the app was turning
"no data" into a reassuring low reading. It now shows nothing where there is
nothing to show. The same was true of fine particulates.
• Snow. The snow card introduced last month never appeared on most devices at
all. It does now.
• Daily wind read zero on iOS 17, which made the ten-day wind view a flat line.
• If you use °C, km/h, m/s or knots, the graded scales behind each figure were
being compared against Fahrenheit and miles per hour — so a mild dew point
could be labelled dry and a stiff breeze called a gale. Grades, chart shading
and the scale legend are now all read in your own units.
• Saved cities in other time zones showed some times on your clock instead of
theirs — sunrise, tide times, the radar timestamp, "overnight" in the Brief,
and which days counted as the weekend.
• Trips could spin for ever, and Time Travel could open onto a blank sheet if
your location had not arrived yet. A trip that started inside the forecast
window but ran past it is no longer labelled a forecast for days it cannot
see.
• If you own Skylight Ultra, you could not pin a widget to a saved city. You
can now, and it fixes itself the first time you open this version — there is
nothing to restore.
• Share cards failed silently when a device was low on storage. They say so.
EASIER TO READ
• At the largest text sizes, the tide, storm risk, snow and hurricane cards
were missing from the simplified layout. Turning your text size up no longer
hides a hurricane.
• VoiceOver now reads those cards as sentences rather than loose fragments —
"High water at 4:32 PM, 7.2 feet" instead of an arrow, a time and a number.
• Cards that lay out side by side now stack instead of clipping when text is
large.
NEW
• Tides, storm risk, snow and tropics can be switched off in Home screen
settings, like the other cards. When a card is off, Skylight stops fetching
its data entirely.
• Your settings now sync between devices in both directions. Previously they
could arrive from iCloud but were never sent.
UNDER THE HOOD
• Rain and snow alerts hold their timing more steadily, and the Lock Screen
activity keeps up in places our primary provider does not cover.
• Radar, air quality and historical data sources are now credited in full,
under Contact Us.
Skylight Ultra is a one-time purchase and its price has gone up. If you already
own it, you keep everything, for ever, with nothing to do.
