Beautiful Player, needs a little more work

Everything works locally no problem but it will not play music hosted on a nas

Developer Response
Thanks, and sorry this one is still open. Local libraries are in much better shape since 1.2 and 1.3, and 1.4 is live now, but network volumes are the part we haven't cracked. We can't reproduce it reliably across NAS setups, so we're partly guessing. We'd genuinely like your help here. If you tell us your NAS and how you mount the share at https://moonlightapp.org/feedback/, we'll work through it with you directly.

Had a rocky start but now crushing it!

Ok, I left a pretty mean review a month or two ago, but I have flipped my opinion on this app from 1 to 5 stars. They have mostly addressed and fixed the criticisms I leveled at this app and have made their documentation clear and honest. The app works the way it should, interface is good, i like it and will go back to using it!

Developer Response
Both points were fair. The playback failing after the first launch was a 1.0 bug and it's fully resolved, fixed in 1.2 and 1.3 with more reliability work in 1.4, which is live now.On the open source side, you were right. We've been heads-down on critical app bugs, and now that those are behind us this is the next thing we're doing. We expect to release the code within the next one to two weeks, pending a security review, and we'll make the Musopen connection clear at the same time. You said you'd gladly revise if it got cleaned up, so we'll come back to you once it is. Anything else: https://moonlightapp.org/feedback/

Won’t play audio

When I first installed this it worked fine, but after a while it just completely fails to play any of my audio files. I have a library of flac files and mp3s it can’t play a single one. It will say 0:00 forever even though it says it’s playing. In the “Now playing” section in control center it shows it progressing through the song but in the app just 0:00. There is ZERO audio coming through.

Developer Response
Thank you for the detailed report. The app insisting it was playing, Control Center advancing, and the timer frozen at 0:00 with silence: that was a real 1.0 bug in how Moonlight held onto access to your music folder, not anything about your files. It's fully resolved now. 1.2 and 1.3 rebuilt how the library is tracked and reopened, and 1.4 is live with more reliability work on top. Your FLACs and MP3s should just play, no reinstall or rebuild.I know it let you down the first time, but if you're willing to give it another shot and it works, we'd really appreciate you considering an updated review. Thanks again. Please share any feedback with us here and we will take a look quickly: https://moonlightapp.org/feedback/

Stunning Native UI

As a SysAdmin and long-time music archivist, I am impressed with the technical foundation of Moonlight. It appears to be a fully native SwiftUI app, and as such, it's blisteringly fast. It respects privacy (opt-out analytics by default!), and handles complex metadata/FLACs with ease. The developer-centric UI themes (Tokyo Night, Gruvbox, etc.) are a nice touch. However, for those of us who have spent 15+ years documenting our listening history, the lack of Last.fm scrobbling is a significant hurdle. If Last.fm scrobbling were to be implemented, this would easily be the best local music player on macOS. For me personally, that's the only thing missing right now. If you don't need/want that feature, this is probably a 5-star app for you!Looking forward to seeing where this goes. Seems like a gem in the making!EDIT: Updated to five stars thanks to the addition of Scrobbling by the developer :)

You named the one thing standing between Moonlight and a daily driver, and it's here: Last.fm scrobbling is implemented.A few other things landed since you wrote this that should matter to an archivist. Every track now carries a permanent identifier, so your ratings, favorites and playlists survive file moves, retagging and new machines. iCloud sync keeps that metadata aligned across devices while the audio itself never leaves your disk. And 1.4 is live now with Live Radio. If the scrobbling holds up to 15 years of history, we'd be grateful if you'd consider updating your review. If it doesn't, you're exactly the person we want to hear from: https://moonlightapp.org/feedback/. Thanks for the thoughtful writeup.

Moonlight 1.4 introduces Live Radio: browse and search stations, explore stations on a map, save favorites, filter by country, quality, or popularity, and keep listening in every Now Playing theme. iCloud metadata sync now keeps ratings, favorites, playlists, play history, and track identity aligned across devices while your audio files always stay local. This update also adds a built-in Help Center, improves playlist import and management, makes missing-folder recovery quieter and clearer, and includes reliability fixes for CloudKit sync, moved files, artwork storage, and playlist ordering.
