more The app now stays smooth while syncing in the background, even with large logbooks.
If you use several devices, your data arrives complete via iCloud and your logbook, and expenses for your co-ownership show up in costs right away.
5.0.1 3d ago
If your boat belongs to a co-ownership, it is now in the app: bookings, costs, settlement, decisions, work hours and documents — for every member, without a spreadsheet.
The app is also noticeably smoother, especially while syncing in the background.
5.0.0 Oct 16
Syncing between devices is more reliable: what you enter stays, even when two devices are in use at the same time.
Extra fields on the boat such as draft or anchor chain now sync right away instead of waiting for the next round.
4.7.6 Oct 11
4.7.5 fixes two faults that together meant a second device received only a fraction of your data.
When syncing with the logbook, entries whose passage had not arrived yet were deferred — but the
read marker moved on regardless, so they never came back. It now waits until everything is in.
The iCloud sync also sent the entire tide cache along on every round. A cache does not belong
there: it is fetched from its source again instead. That saves data, battery and time.
And the papers of boat and crew no longer travel in the same envelope as everything else.
They are fetched one by one when needed, which shrinks the first sync response from 69 MB
to under a quarter of a megabyte.
4.7.5 Oct 10
4.7.4 makes syncing dependable where it matters most: the very first time.
A large logbook now arrives in batches instead of one lump. The app stays calm even when thousands of entries land at once.
If the connection fails, the app says why: rejected credentials show up as exactly that, not as "role not known yet". And your login no longer gets lost when you connect to another crew's logbook.
4.7.4 Oct 9
4.7.3 makes sure your QR codes stay put.
After reinstalling, they could vanish from the list — they were never gone, just no longer linked to the boat. The app now restores that link by itself, even if you keep several boats.
The QR screen also tells you when notifications are switched off: without them, no message from your berth reaches you.
4.7.3 Oct 7
4.7.2 fixes an issue with "Restore purchase".
The button only asked the App Store and then said nothing. It now reports your purchase to your Kielwasser account as well and confirms what happened. If you bought outside the app or changed devices, QR codes and Kielwasser tides are available right away — this could previously take up to a day.
4.7.2 Oct 7
4.7.1 fixes an issue in shared logbooks.
When you connect the app to a logbook that holds a different boat, it asks again before anything merges: create a new, empty logbook, or keep using the current one. Either way your existing logbook stays fully intact.
Also: “Connect” now responds on the first tap, confirms with a message, and the question stays until you have answered.
4.7.1 Oct 6
4.7.0 turns the logbook into one shared logbook for the whole crew.
- One logbook, several people: owner and crew on the same logbook, everyone with their own app - Apple and Android side by side.
- The crew writes too: log entries, legs, expenses, repairs, photos. Everyone may edit and delete their own.
- Boat, crew list, maintenance categories and stowage are kept by the owner. The crew sees everything - and where something is locked, the reason is right there, not after you save.
- Inventory, packing list, safety gear and watch schedule you do together.
- Syncing runs on its own: on opening, after changes, regularly. Photos and videos travel in their own round so the passage does not wait for them.
- The ship's cash box counts the people who are actually aboard: you pick the participants for each settlement yourself - nobody is preselected any more.
Plus smaller improvements.
4.7.0 Oct 4
4.6.9 turns the QR code on your boat into a conversation - and records your passage more precisely.
- Answer messages left at the pontoon straight from the app. The reply goes out through Kielwasser, your own address stays yours, and whatever comes back lands in the same conversation.
- The messages area collects everything worth reading later: dock messages, onboard alarms and area notices, kept for 90 days, each message clearly its own.
- The track follows your boat: the app records a point on every change of course, not just on the clock. Tacks, gybes and harbour entrances appear in the passage the way you sailed them.
- Track clean-up now knows land: it checks points and legs against the coastline. Sections filled in from the logbook are drawn dashed - so you can see at a glance what was measured and what was bridged.
- The chart stays calm while you sail: the boat points the way it is heading and stays visible even if NMEA drops out briefly.
- NMEA connects by itself at the start of a passage - even with only one boat - and finds its way back on its own after an interruption.
- The anchor watch tells you when it has no position fix, so you know when you can rely on it.
- The storm warning builds on a continuous series of readings from one pressure source and clears itself once the pressure rises again.
Plus smaller improvements.
4.6.9 Sep 29
4.6.8 turns the pressure reading into a barometer you can actually work with.
- The barometer now tells you what the trend means: the tendency in plain words, where the pressure sits and the range of the last 24 hours.
- New is the model pressure curve for the next 48 hours - dashed in the graph, aligned to your own reading. What counts is the trend, not the absolute value. Without a connection your own reading remains.
- Opening the view takes a reading straight away instead of waiting for the next interval.
- Battery: in the background the barometer now measures only while a passage is running or a watch is active. Beyond that only with the switch under Settings, Tracking and Log.
- Daylight times use your current position when you open them; the GPS button fetches it again.
- Tapping a push notification opens the message directly in the app.
- The PDF export of a single leg and of a whole passage has been reworked, with photos loaded more gently.
- The manual describes daylight times and the barometer anew, in all eleven languages.
Plus smaller improvements.
4.6.8 Sep 25
4.6.7 clears the way back: if you already have a logbook, you should not create a second one.
- When the app was disconnected from Kielwasser, the first thing you saw was "Create logbook". Now a notice sits at the top, "Connect existing log" is already open and your address filled in.
- The address you last tried survives an aborted connection attempt - it is no longer wiped along with everything else.
- The manual explains the way back for the first time, in all eleven languages: do not create a second logbook, and what the message about the email or name being taken actually means.
- The preview chart of a running leg reloads again: it used to freeze at the moment recording started - a start flag without a line.
- The chart re-fits its view when it receives its size only later.
- The QR code on your boat can now be printed directly. The print-shop version follows prepress requirements - 3 mm bleed all round, the code centred on the sticker. If the print template cannot be loaded, the app says so instead of staying silent.
- Fixed a crash on launch: if you had not allowed Motion & Fitness, the app quit again immediately. The barometer asked for the sensor and tripped over the refusal.
- The app now identifies itself to the server immediately after connecting. Before, it only found out at the first upload whether the credentials worked - and the server wrongly considered a working app disconnected.
- Notifications: the app now only asks for permission while the decision is still open - and tells your logbook when you decline. Before, your logbook was left guessing.
Plus smaller improvements and bug fixes.
4.6.7 Sep 24
4.6.6 brings the ship QR code: be reachable without showing your number.
- A weatherproof code on your boat. Whoever scans it sees the boat, the skipper and the home port - and can write to you without ever seeing your phone number or email address.
- The most common case: the boat lies alone in the harbour or rafted up alongside. Whoever needs to get out, wants to raft up or sees something chafing reaches you at once.
- Messages sit behind the envelope at the top - on every tab, with a notification on your phone. Notes in other languages are translated.
- Print template as a PDF in 40, 60 and 90 mm: an A4 sheet to print yourself and a vector version for the print shop.
- Not only for the boat: dinghy, outboard, folding bike - several codes per log, each with its own name and photo.
- Sold the boat? Renew the code once, the old one stops working immediately.
- Finer weather: wind and rain as an hourly matrix below each other, with amount and probability - and now above the water levels.
- The publishing state now comes from the server: a second device no longer offers to publish what is already in your log.
Plus smaller improvements and bug fixes.
4.6.6 Sep 19
4.6.5 brings dictation: speak your log entries instead of typing them.
- Microphone in the quick entry: tap, speak, done. The text lands in the free-text field and stays editable.
- The recogniser is given the sailing terms and the harbours, locks and seamarks of your area beforehand.
- Optional dedicated recognition model (465 MB, Settings - Tracking & log): far better on place names, and it covers all eleven app languages.
- No recording leaves your phone - everything is computed on the device, even without a connection.
- Also new: a warning when you approach an official notice. And a half-finished Kielwasser sign-up now completes itself on the next launch.
- New: pick your home port instead of typing it. From three letters on, the app suggests places and one tap takes the right one.
Plus smaller improvements and bug fixes.
4.6.5 Sep 17
4.6.4 puts sharing where it belongs: in the app's toolbar.
- Harbour, sailing area or lock open? The share button sends exactly that page.
- For the recipient the link unfolds into a card: name, tidal situation and community soundings.
- A short line of context travels along, so the message reads well even without a preview.
- Shared links open with the usual Kielwasser navigation instead of the in-app view.
Plus smaller improvements and bug fixes.
4.6.4 Sep 11
4.6.3 brings the Kielwasser chart design to the whole app.
- Every map now draws the same nautical chart: passage, logbook, legs and anchor watch.
- Exports match: PDF, yearly export and share card.
- Photos and videos keep their capture time, so they sit in the right place in the log - including archive material you add to a passage later.
- Each item becomes its own log entry; only a burst from the same moment stays together.
- Before anything is added, the app asks and takes a caption right away.
- Camera video recording fixed, videos up to 25 MB.
- Anchor watch: "Weigh anchor" is always reachable, even during an active passage.
Plus smaller improvements and bug fixes.
4.6.3 Sep 11
4.6.2 brings video to your logbook.
- Video everywhere photos used to work: quick entry, logbook, passage detail and camera. Recordings are converted to 720p, get a preview image and play right inside the app.
- Videos can now be added to a passage after the fact.
- Manage photos and videos individually: select, caption, edit, delete.
- Changes travel on their own: via iCloud to your other devices and, for passages you already published, to your Kielwasser ship's log.
- Log entries stay editable after a passage is closed (your own entries and propulsion).
- The offline chart is now a vector chart: sharper, zoomable and a much smaller download.
Plus smaller improvements and bug fixes.
4.6.2 Sep 8
4.6.1 rounds out your Kielwasser ship's log.
- Attach a short video (up to 20 MB) to a post, not just photos.
- Delete posts with a confirmation: the post and its photos are also removed from your Kielwasser blog, and uploads keep running in the background.
- Account setup now asks for first and last name, boat type (sail/motor) and a boat photo, so the map, directory and AIS are complete.
Plus smaller improvements and bug fixes.
4.6.1 Sep 2
With 4.6.0 the onboard kitty becomes truly practical, the anchor watch calmer and the offline charts much faster.
Onboard kitty
- Keep the kitty per trip or per voyage – you no longer need to create a voyage for every trip.
- Expenses can now be edited, not just deleted.
- Amounts are split across the crew automatically; you decide who chips in and who doesn't (e.g. children).
- Send a clean settlement by e-mail.
Anchor watch
- Set the radius in 5-metre steps (minimum 5 m).
- Calmer map without flicker and a more stable alarm.
Offline charts
- One download covers the whole area across all zoom levels.
- Much faster and keeps running in the background when you close the view.
Sailing area
- New "Nearby" tab: harbour search and official notices from your immediate surroundings.
Logbook & export
- Automatic entries on course change and seamark detection.
- Track clean-up now only after confirmation.
- PDF export in local time.
Plus many detail improvements to contrast and handling.
4.6.0 Aug 26
New: Kielwasser Tides - a second tide source right in the app. It is a purpose-built, modelled tide model referenced to LAT, available worldwide near the coast and with no WorldTides key. Important: Kielwasser Tides only needs a FREE Kielwasser account (logbook) - the access is assigned to your account automatically, there is nothing else to set up. You can switch any time under Settings, Tides, between WorldTides and Kielwasser Tides. The 'Nearby' list shows real tide stations, and the chart snaps cleanly to 'now' with a clear day separation. In addition, with Kielwasser Tides the tide view now shows the modelled tidal current (set and drift) in tidal areas as a forecast band with a compass rose - even without NMEA instruments; during an active passage it is logged to the logbook automatically together with the tides.
Important fix for the GPS track: until now the recording could sometimes break off at night or far offshore. The app now fills such gaps automatically from the logbook - the recorded track is never less complete than your logbook. You can bring existing passages up to date with 'Clean track' so older recordings become complete too.
Plus smaller corrections and more stability.
4.5.9 Aug 23
New and a real highlight for everyone with NMEA on board: the app now derives the current (set and drift). From the difference between speed over ground and speed through water it shows the current's direction and rate and whether it sets with you or against you - live in the NMEA monitor and in the active passage. Optionally the app logs the values to the logbook (interval under More, Tracking and Log); a current summary is added when a passage ends. Premium.
Cleaner tracks too: GPS outliers (impossible jumps) are detected and kept out of the recording, and 'Clean track' removes them afterwards from existing passages - the distance is corrected.
Also new for getting started: a short first-run assistant (ship, skipper, optional Kielwasser) and a guided feature tour through the app - open the manual any time via the book icon at the top.
Plus stability improvements.
4.5.8 Aug 18
This update adds polish: the currency converter is quicker to use - the amount is selected when you tap it, so you can type your number right away. The automatic seamark log entries (abeam to port/starboard) are now more accurate and are only added when the course is reliable. The offline download of the harbour search has become gentler and more reliable.
New: log a watch change right from Quick Entry - the current and next watch are shown, and one tap records the handover in the logbook.
Plus stability improvements.
4.5.7 Aug 17
New: save the harbour search offline. Premium users can now download a map area of the harbour search in advance, so harbours, anchorages and charts stay available at sea without a connection. Downloads are now much faster, and when you reopen the search you can see at a glance that an area is saved and how much storage it uses.
Plus stability improvements.
4.5.6 Aug 15
This version improves GPS reliability when sailing with NMEA instruments:
- When NMEA is the position source, only NMEA is now used and evaluated. No more switching to a less accurate device GPS during a trip.
- The track no longer shows false spikes or gaps when the position comes from the NMEA network.
- GPS integrity warning: no more false alarms on a fixed-mounted NMEA device (normal cruising, current/set or a slightly off device clock no longer trigger a warning). Genuine jamming and spoofing signals are still detected.
- If NMEA drops out, the device GPS still steps in as a fallback - even during an active trip.
4.5.5 Aug 9
This update fixes important issues and improves reliability on board:
- Trip values now sync reliably across devices: final readings for the log, engine hours and the water and fuel tanks are no longer lost.
- A trip's final readings carry over as the starting values of the next trip and are recorded in the logbook at the start.
- GPS integrity warning: no more false alarms in locks, harbours and during slow manoeuvring; the warning reliably steps back down.
- The anchor watch runs more calmly, with no false GPS warnings while the boat lies still.
- Further stability improvements.
4.5.4 Aug 8
The app now stays smooth while syncing in the background, even with large logbooks.
If you use several devices, your data arrives complete via iCloud and your logbook, and expenses for your co-ownership show up in costs right away.
