PhotoLucid copies your photos and videos from messy folders and removable drives into one clean, date-organized Photo Vault—without risking your originals. Point it at Downloads, an old backup, a camera card, or a USB drive. It reads capture dates from EXIF and video metadata, sorts into Photos/YYYY/YYYY-MM/ (and a parallel Videos tree), skips exact duplicates, and verifies each file after copy. Your source files stay untouched unless you explicitly choose Move. FEATURES A Photo Vault you control Choose any folder on your Mac or an external drive as your vault. Files land in a predictable structure with readable date-based names, so backups and browsing stay simple. Import from anywhere Add source folders with drag-and-drop or the file picker. Scan All Drives picks up mounted USB disks and SD cards under /Volumes (not your system disk). Smart dates, not random folders PhotoLucid prioritizes EXIF capture time, then video creation metadata, then file dates—so shots sort by when they were taken, not when they were copied. Duplicate-safe imports Every file is hashed with SHA-256 before copy. Exact matches are recorded and skipped so you do not fill the vault with the same image twice. Copy by default. Move only if you want. Default mode copies and leaves originals in place. Optional Move deletes a source file only after the vault copy is verified and logged. Dry Run before you commit Preview what will be imported—new files, duplicates, and unknown dates—before anything is written. Verified transfers Optional post-copy verification re-hashes the destination and removes a bad copy on mismatch. Built for real libraries Streaming hashes (no loading whole files into RAM), concurrent operations for fast drives, thumbnail cache, import history, and per-day logs under .mediavault/. Broad format support Photos: JPEG, HEIC, PNG, TIFF, RAW (ARW, CR2/CR3, NEF, DNG, and more). Video: MOV, MP4, M4V, MKV, MTS, and more. Customize extensions in Settings if needed.
