NOW IN TURKISH Backgammon Reserve now speaks Turkish: every screen, the rules, Learn to Play, the Grandmaster and your notifications, in proper tavla vocabulary. Choose your language the first time you open the app, or switch any time in Profile. It changes instantly. COUNTRY FLAGS Players now show a flag with their name, taken from the country of their App Store account. Change it or hide it in Profile > Country. Also in this release: match history rows no longer cut text off, the daily "waiting" banner always shows your time left in full, and Ranked Rules is up to date on match play and the daily game limit.

At the start of a new game in a match, the dice on screen could still show the last roll of the previous game, so they didn't match the moves you could make. The moves always followed the real roll; now the dice do too.

Game Review fixes. Live and daily games you played before updating to 1.7.0 can now be reviewed from your Games tab, and reviews opened there show your opponent's performance rating instead of an average that didn't match your Standings.

GAME REVIEW FOR YOUR RATED GAMES Every live and daily match is now reviewed, the way matches against the Grandmaster always were. See what each decision cost you, where the game turned, and how the dice fell — with a performance rating for the match itself. Open it from the result screen, or from any rated game in your Games tab. Matches you have already played have been reviewed too, so there is something worth reading the first time you look. BEST PLAY A new standings board ranks players on how well they play rather than on what they win, alongside the ratings ladder — with friends-only versions of both. Your performance rating now appears on your profile, and on other players'. SIR REGINALD IS NOW THE GRANDMASTER The same opponent, the same ladder, the same painted face. He has moved off the home screen into Play Bot, where he sits at the top of the list. Also in this release: a review is no longer lost if you leave the app while it is still being worked out, and the fairness chart on the Grandmaster's page now states plainly what it shows.

A small fix for match chat: the chat button could show "1" unread after you returned to a game, even though you had read everything. It now only lights up for messages you genuinely haven't seen.

CHAT, DONE PROPERLY In-match chat now tells you when your opponent has read your message: a quiet "Seen" under your last line. Conversations group naturally, show the day as well as the time (daily games can run for days), and your opponent's avatar sits beside their messages. Chat also loads reliably every time you return to a game, and the unread count only ever counts what you haven't actually read, on any of your devices. The Double button now shows the doubling cube itself, printed with the stake a tap would offer.

KEEP THE GAMES COMING Once your move is in on a daily game, the board now offers Next Game: one tap opens the daily game that needs you soonest, with no trip back through My Games. The same button is on the result screen when a daily game ends. If nothing is waiting on you, it offers Find a New Match instead, which starts a normal daily seek. If you already have a seek out, the button stays out of the way. Daily games only. Live play, bot games and Pass & Play are unchanged.

NOW ON IPAD Backgammon Reserve runs on iPad, in both orientations and at any window size. The board scales to fill the screen, so a 13-inch iPad gets a 13-inch board. YOUR MUSIC KEEPS PLAYING Opening Sir Reginald's page used to stop whatever you had on, whether that was music, a podcast or an audiobook. It no longer does, anywhere in the app. ALSO FIXED Sir Reginald's community win-rate chart was cutting off the top of its scale, and the line showing your own record sat in the wrong place along the bottom axis. Both lines are now drawn where they belong, and both are labelled.

SIR REGINALD HAS TAKEN HIS SEAT A grandmaster bot with his own page, his own ladder, and the whole community trying to beat him. He plays matches to 3, 5 or 7 and never a single game, because a one-point match has no doubling cube and the cube is half of what he is testing. He is not a difficulty setting, and nothing against him touches your rating. His ladder is its own contest, ranked two ways: most wins, and best average performance. That second board means you have a score to chase from your very first match, long before your first win. His judgement comes from a neural network that taught itself backgammon over 750,000 games against itself, with no strategy written by hand. SEE EXACTLY WHERE YOU WENT WRONG Every match against him ends with a full review of how you played. • A performance rating, with the calculation explained and your result placed on a scale from perfect to poor • Your costliest decision on the real board, with a play button, and a toggle between what you played and what was best • Every other decision that cost you something, worst first • A chart of how your chance of winning moved with each decision, so you can see the moment the match turned. Drag it to read any point, or tap a mistake to open that board • Luck measured separately from skill, so you can tell being outplayed from being unlucky • Short answers to the questions the numbers raise, including what equity is and how it knows the best move HIS PAGE How the community is faring against him over time, his win rate at each match length, where in a game people lose, and an audit of every die either side has rolled against what a fair die actually does. If you have ever wondered whether a backgammon app leans on the dice, that chart is there to be checked rather than believed.

Fixed a bug where winning an online game could leave you stuck on the board without your result screen. Your rating and match record were always recorded correctly — this was only the screen. Also in this update: the invite screen no longer cuts off your opponent's picture, daily invites explain the pace more clearly, and the format picker no longer mentions a doubling cube or a rating change in bot and Pass & Play games, which have neither.

Matches to 3, 5 and 7 points Backgammon as it's actually played. Win games to reach the target score, with gammons and the doubling cube deciding how fast you get there. The Crawford rule is enforced, so the cube stays a real decision right to the end. Choose a format when you start a bot game or Pass & Play, or agree one with a specific player. Matches to 3 are available in Daily. A much stronger bot Checker play has been rebuilt around a trained network rather than hand-written rules. It weighs whole turns at once instead of one die at a time, so it finds plays the old bot simply couldn't see. It also understands gammons, so it knows the difference between winning and winning big. Each difficulty now means something specific. Beginner plays like a beginner. Expert plays the best move it can find, every time. Invite anyone The Daily and Live invite buttons now work on any player's profile, not just friends. The Standings board is somewhere to find a game, not just a table to read. Also in this release • The cube now tells you what a decision costs in match terms, including when declining would lose you the match outright • In Daily, you can set a cube decision aside and study the board before answering • Resign a single game without conceding the whole match • Each game of a match starts on a fresh clock • Fixes to the score display, match history rows and landscape layout

STANDINGS There is now a global board. It ranks the top 25 players by rating, and your own position sits at the bottom of the screen wherever you are on it, with the exact number of points between you and the player above you. If you are not in the top 25 yet, it tells you how far off you are. There is a second board for your friends. Tap anyone on either one to see their record, how recently they played, and how you compare. One rated game puts you on the board. Play again within 30 days to stay there. You can also invite a friend to a live match or a daily game straight from their profile now, instead of hunting for them in your friends list. FIXES Games opened in landscape no matter how you were holding your phone. That was a mistake in the last update and it is gone. Offering a double in a daily game used to trap you on the waiting screen until your opponent answered, which can take a day. You can now leave and come back. The rating chart could tear itself apart when two games finished in the same second. Fixed. Tapping a notification while you were in another game did nothing at all. Now it takes you where you were going once that game finishes. Chat opens at the newest message instead of making you scroll down every time. Profile pictures and profiles load much faster.

The board makes sounds now. Checkers click into place and the dice tumble just like the real thing. Everything follows your silent switch, so the game stays quiet when you do. Undo now takes back one move at a time instead of your whole turn. Roll doubles, misplace one checker, fix just that one. Games open faster and more smoothly everywhere, including when you tap a notification. Your friends list now shows the most recently active players first, and live games are labeled Live to tell them apart from daily games. Plus a handful of smaller fixes to keep the board feeling right.

See exactly what your opponent played. Returning to a daily game now replays their move on the board, with the roll and moves written out in standard notation, plus a replay button to watch it again anytime during your turn. Also in this update: • Blocked rolls now wait for you. When your dice can't be played, they stay on screen until you tap them to pass. No more turns slipping by unseen. • Rematch from the result screen. Finish a daily game and challenge the same opponent to another with one tap. • Daily invites on your Games tab. Invitations you've received and sent now appear alongside your active games. • See when friends were last online, on your friends list and their profiles. • A Notifications option in your Profile, so you can enable move alerts anytime.

This update introduces Daily Games. DAILY GAMES Not everyone has ten uninterrupted minutes for a live match. Daily games let you make a move whenever you have a spare moment, with up to 24 hours before each one is due. Run up to ten boards at once, against matched opponents or friends, all fully rated with the doubling cube in play. NOTIFICATIONS Get a nudge when an opponent moves, when someone challenges you, and before a deadline slips by. Nothing else. We will never notify you for marketing.
