WHY CLEAREATY
• Honest scores — no brand pays for placement
• Every ingredient explained, so you know why something scored low
• Built for real grocery aisles, not lab jargon
WHAT YOU CAN DO
• Scan barcodes for instant ingredient ratings
• No barcode? Photograph the ingredients label and we'll read it
• See an overall 1–10 health score for each product
• Tap any ingredient to learn what it is and why it's rated that way
• Find healthier picks — better-scoring alternatives in the same category
• Build your personal food score by marking the foods you actually eat
• Keep a grocery list of the good stuff
HOW IT WORKS
ClearEaty looks up products in the open Open Food Facts database and uses advanced AI to rate ingredients for healthiness on a 1–10 scale. When a product isn't in the database yet, a quick photo of the label is all it takes — and your scan helps the next person too.

1.9.15 1d ago
• Right photo, right product: a product no longer shows another product's picture when two databases disagree about a barcode.
• Clearer additive explanations: corrected descriptions for BHT, Blue 1 and hydrogenated oils.
• Faster start for new users: a fresh install opens straight to the scanner, with a sample to try.
1.9.14 Oct 16
Allergens at a glance: every product now ends its ingredient list with what it contains and what it may contain (from the label's "may contain" line), kept separate from the score. Plus more accurate scores for sugary foods.
1.9.13 Oct 12
New here? No food nearby? Tap "Try one" on the home screen to see a real product's score and what's holding it back, no scanning needed.
1.9.12 Oct 9
Accuracy fixes: products whose ingredient list was corrected by hand keep it, and allergen warnings follow it. Blue 2 and Green 3 now count as artificial dyes in the score. Bars are no longer filed with energy drinks, mineral waters show "Water" instead of a mineral table, and a slogan or weight line is no longer used as a product name.
1.9.11 Oct 6
Healthier picks now show in seconds, for many more foods. Variety packs now show every bag: scan or photograph a multipack box and an "In this pack" row lets you tap between bags. When we can't confirm a product's ingredient list, we now say so next to the allergens. If you discard the ingredients photo, you can take it again instead of starting over. No more "undefined" categories.
It covers four changes:
- Faster healthier picks: they show in seconds, with no more endless spinner.
- Variety packs: an "In this pack" row lets you tap between bags.
- Allergens: an honest "can't confirm" line when we doubt a product's ingredient list.
- Two fixes: the ingredient photo can be retaken, and "undefined" no longer shows as a category.
1.9.10 Oct 3
Salt now counts toward the score the way sugar does. A little salt costs little, and a lot costs more. Each ingredient row shows how much sugar or salt the product has. A product whose details contradict each other is now checked more carefully. The "Removed from My foods" message goes away on its own again. The app no longer waits forever when the food database is slow, and the privacy and terms links open reliably.
1.9.9 Sep 29
Fixes and polish: product names are cleaner — a pack slogan like "USA Grown" or a company's legal name no longer becomes the name, and a wrong item name from a barcode lookup is caught. Score numbers stay inside their circles at large text sizes. The home screen loads faster and uses less data. Clearer credit for Open Food Facts, an allergen reminder under the badges, and "Why this score" always shows the right count.
1.9.8 Sep 25
- Instant update notification.
- "Why this score" now shows exactly the reasons it counts, with the sugar, salt and fat lines under the reason they explain.
- Product photos appear faster in every list.
- The home screen loads faster and stops re-downloading the catalogue.
1.9.7 Sep 22
Search now shows products it finds even when their ingredients haven't been added yet — scan the label to score them. Clearer messages when an AI estimate isn't possible. A distributor's name is no longer mistaken for the brand. Bug fixes.
1.9.6 Sep 21
No more pop-up after a scan — just a quiet line telling you how many better options there are, if there are any. Healthier picks are now genuinely healthier and genuinely comparable: every pick is the same kind of product you scanned and scores 8 or higher. Artificial colours written the way packs actually write them — "FD&C Red #40", "Yellow No. 5", "Red 40 Lake" — are now recognised and count against the score. If a product's ingredient list doesn't match the pack in your hand, you can photograph the real list — a photo of just the back panel now works — and get your own score from it. Products that were missing their sugar, saturated fat and salt figures can now pick them up, so their scores are fairer. Scan times and your history are correct even if your phone's clock is off, and corrected product names show up straight away.
1.9.5 Sep 19
• Label scans find the real product name and brand, and ask you to confirm a name read only from the photo.
• Salt, sugar and saturated fat now count when you scan a label, read from the nutrition table.
• More accurate barcode scanning.
• Vitamins, gummies and protein powders are recognized as supplements.
• A clearer message when product data is temporarily unavailable.
1.9.4 Sep 17
New: a Sugar filter in search - No added sugar, Low, Medium or High. An optional weekly reminder if you haven't scanned in a while; the app asks once, and you can switch it off any time. Ingredient lists now come from the English label, and nothing is lost after a "contains 2% or less of" line. Allergen lines are never scored as ingredients. Salt counts even when other nutrition figures are missing. Supplements with no data say "score may not apply".
What it covers, in order:
- Sugar filter in search, with four levels, on the app and website.
- The weekly reminder, which asks once, after a third scan, and can be switched off.
- English ingredient lists, so a French or German page no longer turns Evian into "Leeks".
- The "contains 2% or less of" fix, so Hungry Jack keeps its cellulose gum.
- Allergen lines, so "Contains: milk, soy, wheat" never becomes ingredients.
- The salt rule you approved, which also counts sugar and saturated fat when the other figures are missing.
- Supplements without Open Food Facts data showing "score may not apply".
Left out on purpose:
- The Curcumin photo fix, because it isn't proven yet.
- The kombucha category fix, which only affects grouping and takes effect at your recompute.
- The score drops, since the salt line already says it honestly. About 116 products fall slightly after the recompute.
1.9.3 Sep 16
You stay signed in: the app no longer switches you to a guest when your login is slow to load. Scanned labels now warn about allergens, from the pack's "Contains" and "May contain" lines and from the ingredients themselves. Lines like "made in a facility..." are no longer scored as ingredients. A product we know but have no ingredients for now asks for a photo instead of saying "not found". Every score says why. Diet drinks no longer get a low-sugar bonus from their sweeteners.
- The Curcumin fix is left out on purpose. It doesn't work yet, so the text doesn't claim it.
- The diet-drink line only becomes fully true after your recompute. Diet drinks already in the catalogue keep their old scores until then. Delete that last sentence if you'd rather not mention it before the recompute.
1.9.2 Sep 15
Every product now shows its real name and photo, and one product is one product even if it has two barcodes. When you open a product we double-check its ingredients against the source in the background and correct the score if our copy was wrong. All plain waters now score the same. Supplements, cosmetics and drinks are recognized consistently, "banned in…" claims without a source are gone, and the Vegetarian filter no longer hides vegan food.
1.9.1 Sep 14
You stay signed in.
Some people were being quietly signed out on opening the app, losing their scan history and starting over as a new user. That is fixed.
Labels get a real product.
When a barcode is not in our database we ask you to photograph the ingredient list. The score always worked — but the product was saved as "Scanned Label" with a blank image. It now keeps the real product name and photo wherever we can find them.
As always: honest scores, no ads, and no brand pays us to rank higher.
1.9 Sep 10
More accurate scores.
• Ingredients we showed but didn't count — like frying oils — now
count toward the score.
• Additives listed by E-number (E129, E133) are treated the same as
their named equivalents.
• Extra virgin olive oil is recognised as its own grade, not lumped
in with refined olive oil.
• Coconut oil scores consistently however the label words it.
Scores across the app have been updated to match. Some moved down —
that's the score getting more honest, not the food getting worse.
1.8 Sep 1
Fixed a scan that could fail with a "no internet" message on a phone
that was online. Scanning an ingredient label is reliable again.
The results screen now fits on one screen: healthier alternatives and
the ingredient breakdown are both visible without scrolling.
Your score now shows what moved it — like "Organic +1" — right next to
the number.
You can now share ClearEaty with a friend from the home screen.
1.7 Aug 2
Fixed a wrong warning that told you some breads and cereals might be supplements. Better ingredient matching behind the scenes, so the same ingredient is recognized consistently from product to product.
1.5.0 Jul 31
Scores are more honest this release. A 10 now means nothing held the product back — if something did, you'll see the score it actually earned. Nutrition warnings no longer call a "medium" reading "high". The score circle sits where it should, and long allergen labels like "Contains tree nuts" no longer get cut off.
1.4.0 Jul 30
• Allergen labels — spot nuts, peanuts, soy, sesame, gluten, fish, and shellfish at a glance, next to the dietary badges.
• Report an issue — flag a wrong scan or classification from the product screen in one tap.
• Clearer dietary badges — a new "Non-vegetarian" label and better veg detection when a product's data is incomplete.
• A small nudge to make sharing a score easier.
1.3.1 Jul 29
Dietary badges — see at a glance if a food is Vegan, Vegetarian, Eggetarian, Kosher, Halal, or contains dairy, right next to the score.
• Redesigned product screen — a cleaner score with the reasons a food is "held back" shown at a glance, and healthier picks easier to reach.
• Filter search results by dietary type.
• Share a food's score with friends.
• Suggest features or report an issue right inside the app.
No account needed — works as a guest.
1.3.0 Jul 26
• Faster, safer app updates in the future
• Improved score consistency across devices
• Bug fixes and performance polish
1.2.1 Jul 23
Smarter, more honest health scores!
• A flagged ingredient (like Red 40 or trans fat) now caps the score — it can't hide in the average
• Ultra-processed foods score more honestly
• Water and added vitamins no longer inflate a score — they're shown as "Not counted"
• New: tap the chips under any score to see exactly WHY it scored that way
• Tap any ingredient to see its reasoning
• Bug fixes and polish
1.2.0 Jul 22
• Search any food by name — even restaurant items with no barcode: get AI-estimated ingredients from the brand's published data, clearly labeled
• Cleaner ingredient lists — duplicates and label-reading artifacts removed
• Faster, more secure scoring
• Polish throughout
1.1.0 Jul 17
• Search now suggests "Did you mean…?" when a word is misspelled
• Tap to enlarge shows a sharper product photo
• More accurate scores: nutrition-panel text is no longer read as ingredients, and "Low salt" only shows when the label figures make sense
• Medicines and supplements like creatine are recognized, not scored as food
• Clearer ingredient notes
• Scans retry automatically if our service is briefly busy
