The list no longer jumps when it finishes refreshing. The little spinner at the top now keeps its place, so the file you were about to click stays under your pointer.

Logic project previews. Logic Pro 12.4 saves a short preview inside each project, and with Pro, Recent Files now plays it: a .logicx gets a waveform and plays like a bounce, without opening Logic. Logic writes the preview when you play a project and then save it, so not every project has one yet. Settings also has a Rate Recent Files row, which goes straight to the App Store's review page. And once you have been using Recent Files for a while, it may ask, once, with Apple's standard rating prompt. If it saves you digging through Finder, a rating really helps other people find it.

2.0 was about finding the file. 2.1 is about knowing what it is before you open it, and changing it without leaving the list. KNOW WHAT A FILE IS WITHOUT OPENING IT Select anything and the inspector reads it properly. Pictures give you their real colour profile, their bit depth and whether that profile is embedded or assumed. Photoshop files give you their layer count, read from the file itself. PDFs give you page size, trim and bleed. Fonts give you their family, their variable axes and what their licence permits. 3D files give you their meshes. Audio and video give you what they always did, in more detail. SEE THE WHOLE FOLDER AT ONCE A grid view for the places that are full of pictures, with the inspector beside it, so a folder of artwork reads as artwork instead of as a list of names. Fit the whole picture into the tile or fill the tile with it, whichever suits the work. CUT, CONVERT AND COMPRESS VIDEO Trim a clip on its own frames and export just that. Convert between formats, resize, and compress to a size you choose. Pull the audio out as MP3 or WAV, or straight to the clipboard. Make a GIF that is actually small enough to send. MERGE TO PDF Select a run of documents or images and merge them into one PDF, in the order you picked them. EXCLUDE FOLDERS BY NAME Hide every folder with a given name wherever it appears, rather than one at a time. Pro Tools writes a "Session File Backups" folder beside every session, and one entry now covers all of them, including the sessions you have not started yet. SMALLER THINGS The window remembers its size and position, per monitor, so it comes back where you left it. The audio you extract from a video is the audio, not the film. Sharing after a conversion shares what was just made. Pro covers the file facts across all six kinds of file, and everything above that touches conversion. Everyone who already bought Pro has all of it, at no cost.

Fixes a crash and a slowdown on very large folders. Recent Files now shows the newest 1,000 files in a Place and says how many more there are, which keeps memory low on folders with tens of thousands of files. If the app ever crashes or freezes, Get Help in Settings now includes the details, so we can fix it.

Three fixes for the compact window. Double-clicking a file now runs your double-click action. If your single click was set to do something, it closed the window before the second click landed, so the double-click action could never run at all. Option-click was unaffected and kept working, which is what made this one hard to spot. The menu bar icon now always opens the window. If the app had been hidden, with Command-H or Hide Others from another app, clicking the icon did nothing at all and kept doing nothing until you happened to unhide it. The window can no longer open at the wrong size, and it now appears over full-screen apps rather than behind them.

Fixes and refinements throughout, most of them from people telling us what was in their way. SELECTING FILES Clicking a row now selects it every time. Logic project rows in particular could be clicked repeatedly without anything happening, and Shift-click and Command-click to select several files at once were just as unreliable. Both are fixed. LIGHT MODE Light and dark now keep their own colours, so a waveform can be lime on a dark background and blue on a light one. Your colour is used exactly as you picked it and is never adjusted behind your back. Rows alternate a faint shade so the list is easier to read down, badges are filled and legible, and there is a light and dark switch in the toolbar of both windows. SETTINGS Search settings by what a control does rather than what it is called: "zoom" finds the density setting, "colour" finds the whole colour group. Results have an arrow that takes you to where that setting lives in the list. The two file detail settings are now one, the controls line up, and the panel opens and closes properly instead of stacking up or refusing to shut. Your settings also stop resetting when you launch the app. They were being overwritten by iCloud on every open, so a change made on one Mac never stuck. STACKS AND VERSIONS A stack takes one row wherever it appears, instead of a second one turning up when you pinned a version. Expanded versions read main first and then newest to oldest. Double-click the versions chip to recolour it. Undo and redo now cover every stack change, several steps back and forth. SMALLER THINGS The waveform takes the full width of the row when nothing is beside it. Double-click and option-click do what the settings say they do, in the grouped list as well as the flat one. Adding your first folder no longer sends you round the upgrade screen again. The app icon refreshes properly after an update.

VERSIONS Every version of a track folds into one row with a count. Recent Files learns how you name your bounces, so the row is led by the mix you call MAIN and not whichever you saved last. The chevron opens the others in place. MEASURED ON ARRIVAL Integrated loudness, true peak and phase correlation on every audio row, read in the background as the file lands, with a peak marker on the waveform. PLACES Group folders into Places, each with its own file types, time window and pinned files. AUDIO Waveforms in the list, click to play, drag to scrub. Convert to MP3, M4A, WAV, AIFF, FLAC or Apple Lossless with per-format settings. Normalise to −1 dB peak or −14 LUFS. Export audio from video, including MKV. FASTER Scans no longer walk inside Logic and GarageBand projects, which cut the startup scan by around 4x. The menu bar panel opens without a pause. ALSO Multi-select with drag and batch actions. iCloud sync for your settings. Exclude a subfolder from a Place. Undo and redo. Your own accent and waveform colours. Light and dark icons for audio files. A pile of fixes to folder access, sharing and file previews.

Fixed an issue where the menu bar icon would disappear after clicking. Improved reliability on multi-monitor setups.

Minor improvements and refinements. We have also refreshed the App Store description so it is easier to see everything Recent Files and Pro can do.

Dark mode support — switch appearance any time from Settings. File type thumbnails now show preview images next to every file. New compact menu bar popover mode for quick access without opening a window. Filter chips in the toolbar now scroll so they never get squashed. Files added by copying or moving into a folder now appear in your recent list straight away. Open at Login option added to Settings. Bug fixes including menu bar icon reliability improvements.
