I find FHP Notifier genuinely useful because it gives me an easy way to see Florida Highway Patrol’s publicly available traffic-incident information in one place. I can check for crashes, hazards, road closures, and other incidents that might affect my route.The information comes directly from FHP’s public traffic-incident data, which is also available through the FHP website.For me, the value is simply having that information presented in a convenient way so I can stay aware of what’s happening on the roads and make better decisions about my travel.

I am a retired 911 dispatcher and recently discovered your app. I find it very useful to keep track of active events on the highways The person who wrote the negative review simply doesn’t know what they are talking about. All info on this app is publicly available on FHP website. This app nor the FHP website gives real time live info on trooper locations. At any rate it is easy to look at compared to getting on FHP site

My original review remains accurate, and the developers response actually reinforces the concerns I raised. I didn’t claim this app obtained GPS data directly from a trooper’s phone, vehicle, or other device. The officer safety concern is that the app takes law enforcement calls for service and makes their location substantially easier to identify through mapping notifications, filtering, and even directions to the reported location(s). A call for service is not simply a point on the map - it represents an incident to which law enforcement personnel (or any first responders for that matter) responding will respond or may already be present. Therefore, displaying the location of that call can effectively provide someone with the location where a trooper or troopers are, or are reasonably expected to be.In fact, the developer acknowledges the app takes FHP incident information and enhances its accessibility with “color-coded mapping, filtering, notifications, logging, and other functionality.” That enhanced accessibility is precisely the concerns raised in the review.Whether the underlying information originates from a public source, does not eliminate the potential officer safety implications of gathering it, mapping it, sending notifications about it, and providing DIRECTIONS to those locations. Think about it for a moment - why would a general member of the public need directions TO an incident rather than directions AROUND an incident? You’re probably thinking what I’m thinking - exactly the reasons for the concerns raised. The issue is not whether the app secretly tracks an individual Trooper’s GPS coordinates. The issue is whether its functionality makes it easier for someone to determine where troopers are likely to be in relation to those locations.It does. That’s why my original officer safety concern remains unchanged.The developer is a member of the media so that should shed a little light on things.
