Dedup2: Photo Cleaner
Dedupe, compress, fill GPS
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Make room for more memories. Review similar photos and videos, compare compression quality, and fill missing locations from nearby shots. Processed on your device.
Free up space in your photo library with decisions you can review. Dedup2 groups similar photos and videos, helps you choose what to keep, and compresses oversized originals to a size you choose.
FIND SIMILAR PHOTOS AND VIDEOS
Burst shots, retakes, and saved copies add up. Dedup2 uses Apple's on-device Vision frameworks to group visually similar photos, so you can compare them before deleting.
• Adjust matching sensitivity to suit your library
• Rank photos by face quality, aesthetics, sharpness, subject focus, and resolution — in the order you choose
• Use Auto selection as you scroll, or make your own choices; manually edited groups keep your selection
• Review favourite badges and use the delete confirmation's option to exclude favourites
• Compare similar videos, with optional Duration Match for clips of similar lengths
• Focus on a year or album, and exclude albums you want to skip
COMPRESS PHOTOS AND VIDEOS
Keep a smaller copy of media you still want. Inspect the original and compressed preview before saving, including synchronized video comparison.
• Photos: 12 or 24 MP, or a custom target from 2 to 100 MP; resized copies use efficient HEIF, with JPEG fallback
• Original mode: keep a photo's current edit and discard the stored pre-edit original in a flattened copy. Deleting the original removes the ability to revert that edit
• Videos: choose 720p, 1080p, or 4K
• Compare original and new specifications, estimated savings, and previously saved targets
• Save compressed copies first, then separately confirm whether to delete originals
• Preserve capture dates, locations, and supported metadata
• Share individual items or selected group members from Duplicates and Location to albums or other apps
• In Compress, share an original or saved compressed copy, or open a video in OfflineClipper to trim
FILL MISSING LOCATIONS
Give unlocated photos and videos a place on your map. Dedup2 suggests coordinates from another item taken nearby in time; review the donor, time gap, and map before applying.
• Choose a matching window from ±5 minutes to ±4 hours
• Filter by year or album; screenshots are excluded by default
• Restore location changes from in-app Edit History
PRIVATE PROCESSING, CLEAR CONTROL
No account or media uploads to Dedup2 servers. Detection, quality scoring, and compression run on your device. Optional iCloud analysis downloads items from your own iCloud Photos library, with Wi-Fi, cellular, or off controls. Map previews and place names use Apple services and send coordinates to Apple.
Nothing is deleted or changed without confirmation. Deleted media goes to Photos' Recently Deleted; storage may not be reclaimed until it is permanently removed. Review carefully before emptying Recently Deleted.
FREE DAILY USE AND PRO
The free tier includes 10 deletions, 10 compressions, and 10 location fills per local calendar day, with separate allowances. Dedup2 Pro removes these limits through a monthly auto-renewable subscription or one-time lifetime purchase. Eligible new subscribers may receive an introductory trial. Current local pricing and trial eligibility appear before purchase. Manage or cancel subscriptions in Apple Account settings; restore purchases in the app.
Native iPhone and iPad layouts. English and Simplified Chinese. Requires iOS 18 or later.

What's new since 8.31:
# Smoother Browsing for Large Libraries
* **Faster, lighter paging:** Large duplicate groups now load full-resolution photos only for the page you're viewing. Nearby pages show quick previews while you swipe, then load full resolution when selected.
* **Location details stay responsive:** Paging through location suggestions uses the same lighter previews, and video pages prepare playback only when you reach them.
* **More reliable detail views:** Image loading now respects cancellations, and oversized images no longer fill the shared memory cache.
As always, everything runs on-device — your photos and videos are never uploaded.

What's new since 7.20:
# Smarter Duplicate Picks
* **Sharper Auto Ranking:** Duplicate ranking now includes sharpness alongside face quality, aesthetic score, subject focus, and resolution. Reorder these in Duplicates settings.
* **Your Marks Stick:** Scrolling no longer overwrites a set you already edited. Tap Auto when you want Dedup2 to pick again.
* **Clearer Scan Progress:** Duplicates names each stage of a scan instead of sitting on "Analyzed 0 of N", and progress stays visible as results grow — including "No duplicates found so far" while a scan or iCloud analysis is still running. Newest matches can appear before the full library is done.
---
# Better Video Matching
* **Better Comparisons:** Video duplicates now look at more of each clip and flag the weaker take by quality, resolution, and duration.
* **Duration Match:** Optionally require similar clip lengths before grouping them. Video matching is no longer marked experimental.
* **iCloud Video Status:** The Videos list shows how many groups are still waiting on iCloud.
---
# Compress Improvements
* **Saved-Target Status:** Cards show Original / New specs and which targets are already saved, so you don't re-compress at the same size.
* **Stage Progress:** Compression reports Downloading, Compressing, and Saving with time estimates. Cancel keeps copies that already finished.
* **Share:** Add a Compress original to an album, send the original or a Saved copy to other apps, or open a video in OfflineClipper to trim — without using your daily quota.
---
# Clearer Controls
* **Appearance:** Choose System Default, Light, or Dark in Settings without changing your device appearance.
* **Shared Filter and Sort:** Duplicates, Compress, and Location share a Filter toolbar that opens year or album tile catalogs with covers and counts. Compress and Location also share Sort.
* **Easier Scanning:** Clear selection, a Skipping line for excluded albums, and Sort labels in Compress and Location that match the toolbar.
* **Readable Numbers:** Counts, percents, and savings use grouping separators in your selected language.
* **Clearer iPad Sidebar:** On iPad, each section is wider and includes a short description of Duplicates, Compress, Location, and Settings.
---
# Calmer iCloud and Library Updates
* **Quieter iCloud Analysis:** Dedup2 can keep analyzing iCloud photos and videos in the background. Pull to refresh when new results are ready.
As always, everything runs on-device — your photos and videos are never uploaded.
8.31 Oct 4
What's new since 6.8:
# Language Choice
* **Choose Dedup2's Language:** Settings now lets you follow the system language or select English or Simplified Chinese without changing the language of your device.
* **Switch Without Losing Your Place:** The interface refreshes safely in the selected language while preserving your current tab. Active compression and other media work can finish without being terminated.
* **Now available in Simplified Chinese:** Dedup2's core interface, settings, status messages, permissions, and confirmation flows are localized, with a matching App Store listing and screenshot creative.
---
# Choose What Dedup2 Includes
* **Exclude Albums:** Duplicates, Compress, and Location can each skip albums you choose. Exclusions are independent for every workflow, apply to both photos and videos, and are clearly summarized above your results.
* **A Better Album Picker:** Search your albums and sort them by most items, fewest items, or name to find the ones you want quickly.
---
# Safer, Clearer Actions
* **Consistent Confirmations:** Important actions now use clear, app-wide confirmation sheets with the exact item counts and media types involved.
* **Compression You Can Stop:** Compression now shows progress, remaining work, and an estimated completion time. Cancel stops the active job; completed copies stay in the normal review flow so you still decide whether their originals are deleted.
* **Steadier Duplicate Review:** Duplicates keeps your in-progress marks when iCloud analysis finishes or photo dates change. Pull to refresh when you want the latest; the prompt names the reason: Library changed, Dates changed, or iCloud analysis ready.
* **Smarter Compression Results:** Compress results use easy-to-scan cards with before-and-after resolution, size, and savings. When a batch finishes, Dedup2 reports successes and failures before offering to delete only the originals whose compressed copies were saved.
* **More Control Over Location Suggestions:** Use Do Not Suggest to hide a target from automatic suggestions until you restore it, or dismiss only a specific target-and-donor pairing while still allowing a better match later.
* **Simpler Selection:** Larger selection controls are easier to see and tap. A clear Deselect All button replaces the previous icon-only bulk controls and affects only the list you're viewing.
---
# A More Consistent Review Experience
* **Unified Cards and Detail Views:** Duplicates, Compress, and Location now share consistent cards, thumbnail grids, selection controls, paging, and floating detail panels.
* **Improved Location Review:** Location suggestions group targets beneath their donor in an adaptive grid, with the time gap shown on every thumbnail. Dedicated Target / Map and Donor / Map views make proposed fills and donor corrections easier to understand.
* **Synchronized Video Comparisons:** Original and compressed video frames stay aligned through playback, looping, pausing, zooming, and rotation. Previews start muted, can play matching audio, and video thumbnails now show clip length.
* **Cleaner Comparisons:** Duplicate details show a clear suggested keep or removal alongside scores in your chosen priority order. Compress uses a simpler Original / Compare workflow with savings visible immediately.
* **Suggested Keepers at a Glance:** Photo and video duplicate thumbnails now identify the shot Auto will keep, using the same sparkles mark as the Auto action.
* **Natural Dismissal:** On iPhone, detail views use system sheets you can swipe down when media isn't zoomed. Wide iPad layouts keep immersive full-screen presentation with centered controls.
As always, everything runs on-device — your photos and videos are never uploaded.

What's new since 4.9:
# Visuals & Media Viewport
* **Edge-to-Edge Media View:** Photos and videos fill the screen edge to edge. At 1× zoom they fit cleanly between the floating top and bottom bars; zooming in still shows real media behind the translucent chrome.
* **Floating Material Chrome:** A compact, centered top bar and bottom action controls float above photos, videos, and maps with translucent material that blends into the status bar and home indicator.
* **Cleaner Top Header:** Filenames and item positions stay visible in the top bar across Duplicates, Compress, and Location. Extra technical details stay tucked behind a single Details button, which remains open while you page through a set.
* **Accessibility Enhancements:** Translucent chrome switches to opaque backgrounds when Reduce Transparency is on, and subtle fade effects replace sliding animations when Reduce Motion is active.
---
# Workflows & Selection Tools
* **Streamlined Location Review:** Redesigned Location editing with horizontal swipe paging, clear donor-to-target metadata flows, and simple single-action buttons (*Mark to fill* vs. *Remove location*).
* **Clearer Secondary Actions:** Duplicates and Compress rows use a menu for Dismiss, Clear, and Compress instead of trailing swipes; Location Edit History keeps swipe-to-revert for undo.
* **Bulk Selection & Dismissal:** Bulk dismissal lives in the selection bars across Duplicates, Compress, and Location. Manage Dismissed in Settings lets you review and restore items one by one or all at once, with a stacked preview of each set.
* **Polished Duplicate Cards:** Each set’s time and Delete / Auto controls sit under the tiles as a single footer, without a redundant member count.
* **Faster Compress Previews:** Opening a photo starts on Original immediately; Compare and Compressed previews generate only when you ask for them. Megapixel metrics and side-by-side comparisons are available in Compress mode.
---
# Background Sync & Performance
* **Fewer Distracting Prompts:** Non-visual metadata tweaks and background iCloud syncs no longer trigger constant "refresh needed" popups—your library updates quietly in the background.
* **Uninterrupted Browsing:** Pulling to refresh in Location views keeps your place on screen while queuing updates in the background.
* **Smarter Video Metrics:** Compression stats now calculate storage savings based on actual encoded video file size rather than original edit history footprint.
As always, everything runs on-device — your photos and videos are never uploaded.

What's new since 4.8:
• Thumbnails stay steady when your Photos library changes: editing or deleting one item now refreshes only that item instead of briefly reloading every visible thumbnail across Duplicates, Compress, and Location.
As always, everything runs on-device — your photos and videos are never uploaded.
4.9 Jul 29
What's new since 4.4:
• Copy metadata between any two photos or videos: in Location → Manual Edit, choose a source and target, compare their capture date, location, Favourite, and Hidden values in aligned columns, then select exactly which changes to copy, replace, or clear.
• For standard photos, review and selectively copy supported EXIF and camera details such as camera, lens, capture settings, dates, author, and copyright. Video and Live Photo embedded metadata stays unchanged for now.
• Metadata copies are saved in Edit History alongside location fills, so you can restore the target's previous selected values later — even after restarting the app.
• Manual location fill and metadata copy now share one clearer, consistent two-mode workflow.
• Smoother duplicate review on large libraries: results now load in small batches as you approach the end instead of handing the entire saved list to the screen at once; thumbnails are reused when you scroll back, and rapid auto-select feedback stays responsive without overwhelming the system.
• Fixed a startup crash that could affect large saved duplicate result sets on a real device.
• Fixed Compress reanalyzing unchanged photos and videos after every app restart when Photos did not provide a modification date.
As always, everything runs on-device — your photos and videos are never uploaded.
4.8 Jul 27
What's new since 2.15:
• Made for iPad and Mac: Dedup2 now uses the full width of the window instead of a narrow centred column, the full-screen photo viewer fills the whole screen when you tap a duplicate, and in landscape a sidebar keeps every section one tap away — tucking itself away in portrait for a roomier view.
• Much faster Duplicates on large iCloud libraries: if most of your photos live in iCloud (Optimize iPhone Storage), Dedup2 remembers what it already found and only re-checks a group once its iCloud photos have downloaded — so opening Duplicates stays fast instead of restarting from scratch every launch.
• Favourites, protected: photos and videos you've favourited in Photos are badged with a heart in your duplicate sets. Before deleting, if the batch includes a favourite, Dedup2 tells you and offers a one-tap "Delete non-favourites only" — so a keeper is never swept up by a quick scroll-and-confirm.
• More control over photo compression: choose a 12 MP, 24 MP, or Custom target — plus a new Original mode that finds edited photos still holding their untouched original and reclaims that space by flattening them (your edit is kept, the redundant original removed).
• Smarter video compression: a new "Estimated savings per minute" sort puts the clips that free the most space for the least playback time first, so short high-resolution videos rise to the top.
• Choose your thumbnail size: a new Small / Medium / Large control in Settings sets how large thumbnails appear across every tab, so you can scan more at a glance or see more detail.
• Location backfill for videos: review videos missing GPS separately from photos with a Photos / Videos switch, and skip panoramas, slo-mo and time-lapse from suggestions.
As always, everything runs on-device — your photos and videos are never uploaded — and deletions go to Recently Deleted so they're easy to recover.
4.4 Jul 21
What's new since 2.11:
• Dedup2 Pro, on us, if you bought the original Dedup: keep the paid Dedup app installed and Dedup2 unlocks Pro automatically — no purchase, no code to enter. Thank you for being an early supporter.
• Protect Favourites: photos and videos you've favourited in Photos are badged with a star and are never auto-selected for deletion — so a keeper you care about can't be swept up by a quick scroll-and-confirm. On by default; turn it off in the Duplicates settings.
• Favourite right from Dedup2: tap a duplicate to open it and star it in place. Favouriting also clears any pending deletion mark on that photo, so "I want to keep this" always wins.
• Duplicates results, redesigned: sets are grouped under day headers, tiles reflow into a grid sized to your screen instead of scrolling sideways, and thumbnails are sharper — easier to compare at a glance.
• Fixed: auto-select on scroll sometimes didn't visibly mark the photos it had selected. Scrolling and the Auto button now go through the same logic and always agree.
2.15 Jul 14
Faster, calmer, and more in your control — plus a new hands-on way to fill in locations.
What's new since 2.3:
• Manual Fill for locations: hand-pick a group of photos and fill any missing GPS from the closest-in-time shot that already has a location. Badges show which photos have a location, and you can jump straight to the next one that's missing.
• Fix a bad location match at the source: when a suggested fill is wrong because the donor photo itself is mis-located, you can remove that donor's location right from the detail view — it stops suggesting the wrong place and lets nearby photos match to a better one. Removals are saved to Location Edit History, so you can undo them any time (or revert in Photos)
• Duplicates open instantly: your last results appear right away instead of a spinner, and a "tap to update" prompt folds in anything the background scan finds — you can accept it mid-scan, without waiting for the scan to finish
• You're in control of rescans: Dedup2 never re-scans on its own when your library changes or after a burst of new camera shots — pull to refresh whenever you want the latest
• Clearer scan progress: a determinate "Analyzed X of Y" indicator, iCloud analysis status, and a note when there's more still to find
• Keep the screen awake during long scans and location backfills so they can finish (toggle in Settings → Scanning)
• A performance pass across the app: faster open, lower rescan cost, and smoother scrolling in the location edit history
• More reliable results: saved duplicate groups are validated before they're shown
As always, everything runs on-device — your photos and videos are never uploaded — and deletions go to Recently Deleted so they're easy to recover.
Thanks for using Dedup2!
