Walkie: Voice Keyboard
Dictate into any app
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Tap, talk, and Walkie types it for you — in Messages, email, notes, anywhere. And now it reads to you too: articles and PDFs in 950+ natural voices.
Walkie is a keyboard that turns your voice into text — in any app. And now it reads to you, too.
Tap to dictate, speak naturally, and Walkie types what you said right where your cursor is: Messages, email, notes, Slack, search bars, anywhere you'd normally type. No copy-paste, no switching apps.
WHY WALKIE
- Works everywhere — it's a keyboard, so it goes wherever you type
- Fast, accurate transcription that keeps up with how you actually talk
- Talk as long as you want; tap done when you're finished
- A real keyboard for typing too, with autocorrect that learns your words
- Your words, your way
READ ALOUD
- Turn anything into audio: paste text, open a PDF, or share an article straight to Walkie
- 950+ natural voices — search by name, language, or country
- Follow along with word-by-word highlighting, or just listen
- Recent reads are saved so you can pick up where you left off
MAKE IT YOURS
- Dictionary — teach Walkie names, brands, and terms so they come out right
- Snippets — say a short trigger, get a full phrase (addresses, sign-offs, more)
- Text styles — Formal, Casual, or Very casual (no caps, no punctuation)
- Everything syncs across your devices when you sign in
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
- Your audio is used to transcribe and is never stored or used to train models
- Delete your account and all your data anytime, right from the app
Set up takes a minute: add the Walkie keyboard in Settings, enable Full Access (required so the keyboard can transcribe in the cloud), and start talking.

This release keeps Walkie at version 1.20.18 alongside the desktop apps.

Manage downloaded models and temporary files from Settings. Remove individual downloads or clear model storage while keeping saved readings, meetings and notes. Active downloads and playback are protected during cleanup.
Walkie 1.20.17 aligns the release version across mobile and desktop.

Home has a refreshed Meetings card with Walkie's cassette artwork and a lighter look that fits the app.
You can now dismiss the photos and PDFs setup card. Your choice is saved, and image understanding is still available in Settings whenever you need it.
1.5.4 Oct 10
Record a quick meeting on your iPhone, even while you use another app or lock your screen. See recording progress on the Lock Screen and return to its transcript, notes, and chat. Recording audio is removed after transcription.
You can add photos and PDFs when asking about a meeting, with private on-device image understanding available as an optional download. This update also improves attachment previews and chooses a Read Aloud voice for your selected spoken language.
1.5.3 Oct 3
Record meetings on your iPhone and keep the transcript without saving audio.
• On-device meetings can label speakers locally and create notes with Gemma.
• Ask about photos and PDF pages locally with the optional Gemma vision download.
• Add up to five attachments to a meeting question or Ask anything, with previews.
• Audio is captured as lossless FLAC and removed after the transcript is saved.
1.5.2 Oct 1
Your Home screen catches up with the desktop app, and Read Aloud finally remembers how you like it.
• Switch between Cloud and On-Device right from the Home screen, instead of digging through Settings.
• Questions you asked Walkie on your computer now show their answers here. Before, only the question came through and the answer was invisible.
• Bookmark anything in your history with the star, the way you can on your computer.
• Every history row now carries a mark: the app you dictated into, or Walkie itself for anything you said on your phone, and a tag for meetings, reads and questions you asked your agent.
• Read Aloud settings moved into Settings: pick your voice, your starting speed, and whether focus mode is on. Speed and focus are remembered now rather than resetting every time you open a document.
• A new section in Settings says plainly where each feature runs — dictation on your phone or in the cloud, Read Aloud in the cloud, meetings on your computer.
• Meeting notes and answers are labelled as written by AI, and audio you export is marked as text-to-speech rather than a real voice.
• A link to the help centre, in Settings under Support.
• The Ask screen no longer cuts text off at a hard edge, and its input lines up with the tab bar.

1.5.0 Sep 13
Read Aloud keeps playing with the screen off, plus fixes for the weekly limit and a renamed tab.
• Reading no longer stops when your phone locks or you switch to another app. Play and pause from the lock screen, as with music.
• Some accounts were being told they had reached the weekly limit when they hadn't. The app now reads your account correctly, including seats on a team.
• Reaching the weekly limit no longer pauses the whole app. Fast Mode, Dictionary and Snippets pause until the reset; Meetings, Read Aloud, your history and Settings keep working, and the Home screen shows the status.
• The Transcribe tab is now called Dictation, matching Walkie on the desktop.
• Text copied from PDFs and emails reads smoothly. Each visual line used to end in a pause; now only paragraph breaks do, and words split by a hyphen at a line end are joined back together. Reading also starts a little sooner.
1.3.1 Sep 10
Walkie can now read web pages out loud.
• Copy a link — an article, a blog post, a newsletter — then open the Read tab and tap Link. Walkie pulls the readable text off the page and reads it to you.
• Links to PDFs and plain-text files work too.
• Have a link on your clipboard? The Paste button now reads the page itself, not the web address.
1.3.0 Sep 7
Meetings, now on your phone.
• New Meetings tab: every meeting you record with Walkie on your computer is here — full transcript, notes, and who said what.
• Open a meeting and ask questions about it. "What did we decide?" "What am I on the hook for?" Walkie answers from the transcript.
• Keep meetings in folders, share one with a link, and search across all of them.
• New Home tab: your dictations, reads, and meetings in one feed, grouped by day.
• New Transcribe tab: just your dictation history.
• Dictionary and Snippets now live in Settings → Vocabulary (tap your picture at the top of the screen to open Settings).
1.2.0 Sep 5
Fixed: Work and Business subscribers were shown the free plan's weekly word limit and could be locked out of the app. Paid plans are unlimited again, as they always should have been.
1.1.1 Sep 5
Read Aloud round 3, plus a big pass on the keyboard.
• 950+ voices with illustrated avatars, searchable by name, language, or country ("french", "hindi", "mexico"). Pick your voice right on the Read tab.
• Large PDFs no longer freeze the app — import shows progress, huge documents open instantly, and word highlighting stays smooth all the way through.
• Playback no longer pauses mid-sentence between sections.
• Switching voices keeps the picker open until the new voice is ready, then starts speaking immediately.
• Swipe left on a recent read to delete it (with confirmation).
• Clear notices when your connection is too slow to generate audio, with a retry.
Keyboard:
• Short words are left alone. Typing "Hy" no longer turns into "By", and two- and three-letter words stop getting swapped for something you didn't type.
• Fast typing no longer eats spaces, so "Hey man" stays two words.
• Haptics now follow your pace — lighter and sharper as you get into flow, fuller on a deliberate press.
• Passwords and one-time codes are never corrected, learned, or logged.
• Key sizes and spacing tuned to match the system keyboard.
Home:
• Your history is grouped by day and no longer stops at 100 entries — everything you've dictated is there.
• Tap any transcription to read the whole thing, copy it, or delete it. Read-aloud entries open straight in the reader.
• Faster scrolling, even with thousands of entries.
• Dark mode, in Settings → Appearance.
1.1.0 Aug 14
Read Aloud round 2: PDF support (open PDFs from the File tile — text is extracted and read aloud), the reader highlight now hugs each word precisely, the READ tab indicator is properly centered, and the keyboard Listen key is removed (use the Read tab, share sheet, or Android text-selection menu).
1.0.9 Aug 1
Very casual means very casual
If your style is set to Very casual, dictation now comes out fully lowercase — every time. AI polish still cleans up your words and fixes sentences; it just never capitalizes them anymore.
Hold to delete, with momentum
Holding backspace now feels like the system keyboard: it starts deleting the instant you touch, picks up speed as you hold, and shifts to whole words on a long hold — with a little tick for every deletion. Single taps are instant now too.
No more surprise capitals
Fixed words like "you" and "on" getting capitalized in the middle of a sentence. Names from your contacts still get their proper capitals — everyday words are left alone.
Editing mid-sentence — Fixed the keyboard capitalizing the next word after you move the cursor; typing "at 7pm" into the middle of a sentence stays lowercase.
Names, capitalized properly — Weekdays, months, and names get their capitals, and "hey matt" greets Matt properly.

What's new in Walkie 1.0.6
Your words always show up now. Some of you dictated into apps like WhatsApp or Slack and watched… nothing appear. The transcription worked — it just never made it into the text box. That's fixed. Walkie now double-checks that every dictation actually landed where you were typing. And in the rare case an app still refuses it, your words show up as a small button right above the keyboard — one tap and they're in.
"10 seconds" stays "10 seconds." Walkie sometimes got a little too clever and turned durations into times of day — you'd say "give me 10 seconds" and get "give me 10am." Fixed. (This one's already live for everyone — no update needed.)
1.0.6 Jul 21
Fixed issues with auto correction.
1.0.5 Jul 19
Updated AI polish to be faster.

Walkie Mobile 1.0.3 — What's in this build
Nothing changes in how the app works or feels — this is an under-the-hood release.
We fixed a gap in our usage analytics. The app was telling us almost nothing about how it's being used, so we added the basic signals: whether dictation succeeds or fails, how onboarding is going, and which settings people actually use.
Nothing personal is collected — we count actions, not content. Your dictations, dictionary entries, and snippets never leave the pipeline they were already in.
Why it matters: this is how we'll spot dictation failures, see where people get stuck setting up the keyboard, and decide what to build next.
1.0.3 Jul 12
Smarter typing
•Walkie now tidies up little grammar slips as you type — like "into" vs "in" or "their" vs "there" — so your messages come out clean without a second thought. (Turn it on or off anytime in Settings under Sentence correction.)
•Plays nice with your music
Start dictating while a podcast or song is playing and Walkie pauses it for you, then picks it right back up when you're done — no more talking over your audio.
1.0.2 Jul 4
• Updated keyboard height.
• Fixed issue with sign in and sign out.
• Added sentence correction
• Added detailed log reports
1.0.1 Jul 3
Maintenance update to keep Walkie aligned at version 1.20.24 across platforms.
