Source Cut
Export clips by source name
Only for Mac

Mac
Every clip in your Final Cut Pro timeline, exported as its own file — still wearing its original camera filename. One click, no re-encoding, no renaming by hand, no cloud account.
If you've ever delivered selects to a client, sent a cut to a colourist, or archived the keepers from a shoot, you know the pain: batch exports from Final Cut Pro lose your camera filenames, so you end up exporting clips one at a time and renaming them by hand. Source Cut gives you back your afternoon.
New in this version: choose a clip format (keep it as rendered, or H.264, HEVC or ProRes at 1080p, 4K or original size), get a matching .srt caption file for every clip from Final Cut Pro's Generate Captions, and a pre-flight check that catches wrong share settings before they cost you a delivery.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Click Share in Final Cut Pro and choose Source Cut.
2. Pick a folder — renaming, handles and timecode options are right there on the dialog.
3. Done. Every timeline clip lands as a separate movie named after its original source file. DJI_0042.MOV stays DJI_0042.MOV.
MADE FOR REAL WORKFLOWS
• Client selects that keep the filenames the client expects
• Dailies and stringouts that trace straight back to camera originals
• Handovers to colourists and VFX houses who need source names and timecode
CUT FROM THE EDIT, NOT GUESSED
Scene-detection tools look at a finished render and guess where the shots change — they can't know which camera file each shot came from. Source Cut reads every cut straight from your timeline, so cut points are exact and every clip keeps its camera filename and timecode.
FRAME-ACCURATE, NO RE-ENCODE
Clips are cut from your master export by passthrough — zero quality loss, no transcoding time. With a ProRes master, cuts are frame-exact. Source Cut checks the master before cutting and warns you if it has no audio or uses a long-GOP codec that can't cut cleanly.
CLIP FORMATS & REVIEW COPIES
Keep clips exactly as rendered, or have every clip encoded straight from the master to H.264, HEVC or ProRes (Proxy to 4444) at 1080p, 4K or original size — frame-accurate even from an H.264 master. Add lightweight review copies for client dailies.
CAPTION FILES
Captions and subtitles on your timeline — including Final Cut Pro's Generate Captions — come out as a .srt file beside each clip, timed to that clip, one per language.
RENAME ON EXPORT
Add a prefix or suffix, number clips in timeline order, or replace names entirely — with a live preview as you type. Build names from tokens like {source}, {seq}, {project} and {date}, and save your whole setup as a preset to recall per client or show in one click. Or leave it off and keep the original names untouched.
RELINK & CONFORM PACKAGE
Write a Final Cut Pro XML rebuilt against your exported clips — re-import it and your timeline reconnects to the cut files instantly, in Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve. Add a CSV manifest listing every clip with its timeline and source timecodes, ready for conform paperwork and handovers. Both write straight into the clips folder.
SOURCE TIMECODE
Every clip is stamped with its original camera timecode, so it relinks and conforms cleanly in DaVinci Resolve and other colour and finishing tools.
HANDLES
Keep extra frames on the head and tail of every clip — like Final Cut Pro 7's Media Manager — so there's room downstream to re-trim or add transitions.
NO TIMELINE SURPRISES
• Original camera filenames from the FCPXML — special characters included
• A clip used twice exports twice (_2 suffix)
• 1-hour start timecodes, gaps and transitions handled
• Multicam, synced and compound clips export under their clip names
WORKS STANDALONE TOO
Drop any master export plus its FCPXML onto the app window and cut clips without touching the share menu.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Everything happens on your Mac. No account, no upload, no analytics, nothing to subscribe to.
One purchase. Yours forever.

Formats, captions and a safety net.
• Clip format — keep clips exactly as rendered (no re-encode), or encode every clip straight from the master to H.264, HEVC or ProRes at 1080p, 4K or original size. Frame-accurate even from an H.264 master.
• Caption files — captions and subtitles on your timeline, including Final Cut Pro's Generate Captions, are written as a .srt beside each clip, timed to that clip.
• Review copies — optional lightweight copies of every clip in a Review subfolder, for client dailies.
• Pre-flight check — warns before cutting if the master has no audio or a codec that can't cut frame-accurately, so a wrong share setting never costs you a delivery.
• Progress panel and delivery receipt during a share, with Show in Finder.
• Verified with Final Cut Pro 12.4.
