WHY BEEREADER
• Read anywhere — on a walk, in line, in bed — without reaching for your phone.
• Works fully offline. Once a book is on your watch, you never need a connection.
• Distraction-free: just your text, the way reading should be.
FEATURES
• Import TXT, EPUB, and PDF from Files, iCloud Drive, or any app via the Share sheet.
• Digital Crown scrolling, with your reading position saved automatically.
• Hands-free auto-scroll at a steady, adjustable reading pace.
• Read-aloud on the watch itself — a built-in voice reads your book through your Bluetooth headphones while the page follows along.
• A "continue reading" watch-face complication — tap to jump right back into your book.
• Four easy-on-the-eyes themes (black, paper, sepia, and Night for a dark room) and adjustable text size.
• Automatic on-device cleanup for messy PDFs — fixes broken line breaks and strips page headers and footers.
• An on-phone bookshelf re-sends any book to a new Apple Watch in a tap.
PRIVACY FIRST
BeeReader has no account and collects no data. Your books never leave your devices.
The first few books are free. BeeReader Pro is a one-time purchase for unlimited imports — no subscription, ever.

• Plain-text (.txt) books saved in older encodings now import correctly instead of as garbled characters — including Windows text with curly quotes and accents, and Chinese, Japanese and Korean files from the web.
• If part of a file is damaged, only the affected line is touched; the rest of the book reads normally.

BeeReader 1.33
• Take a book's pictures with you: right after you send a book with pictures, tap “Send Pictures Too” — or turn on “Send Pictures with Books” in Settings, or tap “Send Pictures to Apple Watch” on a book's page. The pictures are then kept on the watch, so it can show them fully offline. Without them, your watch still gets each picture from your iPhone when you open it. Off by default — illustrated books take longer to send and use more space on the watch.
• Pictures stored as SVG drawings, which used to say their format couldn't be shown, now appear on the watch — open BeeReader on your iPhone while you look, or send the pictures ahead.
• Black-and-white illustrations such as engravings and line drawings come through much sharper, so they hold up when you zoom in with the Digital Crown.
• A picture in the text now shows as a card with its caption and “Touch and hold to view”, instead of a bare [Image] line.
• Deleting a book on the watch now removes its saved pictures as well.

BeeReader 1.32
• Pictures on your wrist: when a page shows an [Image] line, touch and hold, then tap View Image. Turn the Digital Crown to zoom, drag to look around, double-tap to fit it again, and swipe sideways when there are several. Pictures come from the book's EPUB on your iPhone, so keep it nearby.
• Illustrations in books converted with tools like Calibre used to disappear. Send such a book again from the shelf on your iPhone to see them — your reading position and bookmarks stay where they were.
• New iPhone widgets: Continue Reading, Bookshelf, Recent Books and Last 7 Days.
• A book's page on your iPhone now shows its contents and the passages you bookmarked on the watch.
• Sending books: a dropped connection is retried automatically, “Taking too long?” explains a stalled transfer, and an EPUB whose download was cut short now says so.
• “Story so far” recaps are now written in the book's own language, and Settings and catalogue labels that still showed in English are translated.

BeeReader 1.31
• Read aloud: you can now change the speed. Touch and hold the play button to open the listening screen, then tap − or + to go from 0.25× to 2×; the change takes effect at once and is remembered for next time. Thanks to the reader who asked for this.

BeeReader 1.30
• Sending to your watch: the transfer screen now tells you when the watch is still saving a book and when it's ready to read, and you can leave it with "Continue in Background". Books that didn't make it onto your watch, for example when it ran out of space, are collected in one "Send Again" list instead of being reported as sent.
• Reading: the Paper and Sepia themes now have a subtle paper texture, and the chapter buttons at the foot of the page are readable on both. A "More actions" button sits at the foot of every chapter, so read-aloud and the other passage actions no longer depend on a touch-and-hold.

BeeReader 1.29 fixes several issues with purchasing and restoring Pro. If a purchase or restore still doesn’t go through, you can now contact support straight from the message.

BeeReader 1.28 shows each book's own cover and stands your watch library on a wooden shelf.
• Covers: EPUBs, and PDFs that open on a picture, now show their real cover in the watch library and on your iPhone. A book imported before this update picks up its cover the next time you send it again, if BeeReader still keeps its original file.
• The watch library is a bookshelf now, every book standing on a walnut board. A row takes at most four lines, with the percentage at the end of the progress bar.
• Every iPhone screen now shares the home screen's warm paper look, and the app stays in light appearance.
• Tapping a book on the Standard Ebooks shelf could freeze the app on older versions of iOS. Its details now open straight away, and the shelf itself opens without a stall on older iPhones.
1.28 Sep 13
BeeReader 1.27 tells you how long each book has been waiting.
• Your library now shows when you last opened each book — yesterday, 2w ago — beside its progress. The book you are in the middle of keeps its honey bookmark; the rest say how long it has been, so choosing what to pick up no longer starts with a guess.
1.27 Sep 12
BeeReader 1.26 sends you one note a week, and opens the whole Standard Ebooks catalogue to readers on the US App Store.
• Weekly Recap: every Sunday morning, your watch shows the week that just ended — days read, minutes, where your book is waiting, and how many weeks in a row. It is the app's first notification and its only one: a look back, never a nudge to come back. It asks once, after a week with two reading days, and lives under Settings › Notifications.
• On the US App Store, the Standard Ebooks shelf now carries every one of its 1,500+ books. The hand-picked shelf stays on top; search reaches the rest. Books from the wider catalogue have not been read chapter by chapter on a watch, and their detail screen says so.
• Searching the shelf by an author's name no longer turns up a book whose translator happened to share it.
1.26 Sep 9
BeeReader 1.25 names the English shelf after the people who typeset it, and tells you when a download won't go through.
• The English shelf is now Standard Ebooks — the name on every English book in it. It shows English titles only, so the language picker is gone.
• A refused download now says so in a dialog, right where you tapped. The message used to be drawn in the list behind the book, where a book halfway down the shelf meant you never saw it.
• When the publisher is limiting downloads, the app says that rather than "please try again" — Standard Ebooks counts downloads per address, so waiting is the only thing that works.
1.25 Sep 4
BeeReader 1.24 rebuilds the bookshelves: every language now comes from one publisher, and the books arrived cleaner for it.
• The English shelf is now Standard Ebooks: 34 classics, carefully proofread and properly chaptered, each with its own cover — from Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre to Moby Dick and The Great Gatsby. A book made the shelf because the canons agree on it, and its page now says which lists it is on.
• Cleaner texts throughout. Publishers' title pages, imprints, and licence boilerplate no longer arrive as chapters; an author's preface or dedication stays where the author put it.
• Footnotes a watch can't tap are gone from EPUBs — the [1] markers in the text and the note list at the end — including books you import yourself.
1.24 Sep 1
BeeReader 1.23 brings a Japanese shelf worth the name, a typeface you can choose, and headings that look like headings.
• Choose the typeface your books are set in. On your watch, pick System, Serif, or LXGW WenKai — a kai-style face bundled with the app and made for reading Chinese.
• Section headings inside a chapter now read as headings: set in bold, with far more air above them than below, so a heading belongs to the text it introduces rather than floating between two paragraphs.
• The Japanese catalog is now Aozora Bunko — 69 works, from Run, Melos! and Rashomon to poetry and essays. Used in Japanese, the app names the shelf after it.
1.23 Aug 31
BeeReader 1.22 is about the text itself: paragraphs that break where the book breaks them, words that stay whole, and books that keep the name you give them.
• Rename any book on your shelf. Open a book on iPhone and give it the title you would actually look for — a fix for files that arrive named after their download. Send the book to your watch again and the new name goes with it, along with your place in it and its chapter recaps.
• Paragraphs read as paragraphs. Some EPUBs wrap their text at a fixed width, and separate paragraphs could run into one another — lines of dialogue fusing into a single block, a chapter heading landing at the end of the sentence above it. Every break the book really has is now kept. Books already on your shelf pick this up the next time you import or send them.
• No word is broken in half. A long paragraph is still divided so the watch can lay it out, but the division now falls between words and at the end of a sentence, instead of inside a word or in front of a closing quotation mark.
1.22 Aug 26
BeeReader 1.21 is a polish release: a watch face that looks like BeeReader, and a quote card worth posting.
• The watch face knows it's BeeReader. The complication's generic book symbol is gone, replaced by BeeReader's own honeycomb mark inside the progress ring. The rectangular complication now leads with how far into the book you are and puts the chapter beside it, so a glance at your wrist answers the only question you had.
• Share Quote reads at thumbnail size. The excerpt is set noticeably larger, so the card still says something when it turns up small in someone's feed. Quotation marks that came along with the sentence are trimmed, so the card's own opening mark is never doubled, and the footer says where in the book the quote was highlighted.
1.21 Aug 26
BeeReader 1.20 is a quieter page, and a theme for reading after dark.
• Night, for an unlit room. Black is the right page at every hour but one — in the dark it is the brightest thing you own. Night keeps the black page and drops the ink to a warm amber: under half the light, still comfortably clear of the contrast floor for body text.
• The words come first. The reading page's corner control now wears the page's own ink and turns honey only while auto-scroll or read-aloud is running, so nothing on screen outshouts the book. The library, the themes and the font sizes were redrawn to match — themes and sizes are now shown rather than named.
• Translation, line by line. Each original sentence sits directly above its own translation, instead of a whole passage above a whole translation. Nothing left to match up by eye.
• Fixes. Opening the app from the watch face no longer lands on the touch-and-hold menu, several labels that were hard to read on the Paper theme are legible again, and Share Quote now speaks every language BeeReader supports.
1.20 Aug 25
BeeReader 1.19 reads your book aloud, straight from your wrist.
• Listen to any book on the watch itself. Touch and hold the page and choose Listen: the watch's own voice picks up where you are, with no iPhone and no connection needed. Pair Bluetooth headphones or AirPods for private listening.
• The page follows along. The sentence being read is gently highlighted, the page scrolls itself, and chapters turn on their own, so you can drop your wrist and just listen.
• Controls where you expect them. The corner button pauses and resumes; touch and hold for previous or next sentence and for a sleep timer that stops after 15 minutes or at the end of the chapter. Play, pause and volume also work from Now Playing and the Digital Crown.
1.19 Aug 22
BeeReader 1.18 brings sharing, translation and a quicker page turn to the watch.
• Share a quote card from your wrist. Touch and hold the page, choose the sentence or the whole paragraph, and BeeReader draws a card you can send straight from the watch — or hand to your iPhone to share anywhere else.
• Translate a passage or look up a word without leaving the page. Touch and hold to translate the sentence you are reading; for a single word, turn the Digital Crown to pick it. The paired iPhone does the translating, so keep it nearby.
• A tap now turns the page. One tap glides to the next screen with no double-tap to wait out, and Contents has moved into the touch-and-hold actions.
• The Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature are now complete in Public Domain Books — Dream of the Red Chamber, Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Water Margin join the shelf, along with two more Japanese titles.
1.18 Aug 20
BeeReader 1.17 keeps hands-free reading going.
• Auto-scroll no longer stops when the screen dims. Reading without touching the watch used to end the scroll after about fifteen seconds — now the page keeps gliding, and it pauses only after the screen has stayed dim for a while.
• If something does pause auto-scroll, a Resume button appears, so one tap picks the page back up.
• Seven self-improvement classics join Public Domain Books, among them The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin — and every tag and category in that catalog now reads in your own language.
1.17 Aug 20
BeeReader 1.16 makes hands-free reading smooth.
• Auto-scroll now glides at a steady pace instead of racing through a paragraph and then pausing.
• Slow, Medium and Fast are set in reading terms, so each one means the same pace whatever language you read — and Fast is genuinely fast.
• Chinese and Japanese chapters keep their paragraph breaks, which also brings back the auto-scroll button on those books.
1.16 Aug 13
BeeReader 1.15 lets you jump to any point in a chapter.
• New Chapter Position control: double-tap the reading page to open the contents, then turn the crown or drag the slider — a live preview shows the paragraph you'll land on.
• After a jump, a Return button brings you straight back to where you were.
• English book text now reflows soft line breaks more naturally, avoiding awkward one-word paragraphs.
• Continued contrast and motion refinements across the iPhone app.
1.15 Aug 11
BeeReader 1.14 makes the app easier to use with accessibility features.
• VoiceOver now describes import progress, shelf actions, watch complications and reading stats more clearly.
• iPhone layouts adapt better to larger Dynamic Type sizes.
• Motion is reduced during auto-scroll when Reduce Motion is enabled.
• Action icons and low-contrast details are easier to see.
1.14 Aug 8
BeeReader 1.13 dresses the whole app in its honey-gold look.
• Buttons, switches and progress bars on iPhone and Apple Watch now share one warm honey-gold accent, matching the bee on the icon.
• Every book in your watch library now wears a mini book spine — the same colored jacket it has on your iPhone shelf.
• A subtle honeycomb pattern welcomes you on the BeeReader Pro screen.
• Small improvements and fixes.
1.13 Aug 8
BeeReader 1.12 makes sure a book transfer never leaves you guessing.
• When a book starts sending and the watch app is closed, a full-screen guide shows exactly what to do: open BeeReader on your Apple Watch and the transfer finishes in seconds instead of sending slowly in the background.
• The guide turns green — with a gentle tap — the moment your watch connects, and you can swipe it away anytime.
• A smoother progress bar shows the transfer working.
• Small improvements and fixes.
1.12 Aug 6
BeeReader 1.11 makes sending books to your watch clearer.
• While a book is transferring, a new animated banner shows whether your watch is connected — and reminds you that opening BeeReader on your watch finishes the transfer in seconds instead of sending slowly in the background.
• The transfer progress bar now moves smoothly, so you can see it working.
• Small improvements and fixes.
1.11 Aug 5
BeeReader 1.10 makes it easier to reach us when something goes wrong.
• If an import fails, a new "Report a Problem" button sends us the details in one tap — no typing needed.
• Contact Support now opens a pre-filled email, so we can help you faster.
• Small improvements and fixes.
1.10 Aug 4
BeeReader 1.34
• Plain-text (.txt) books saved in older encodings now import correctly instead of as garbled characters — including Windows text with curly quotes and accents, and Chinese, Japanese and Korean files from the web.
• If part of a file is damaged, only the affected line is touched; the rest of the book reads normally.
