TuneHelper

Car-audio measurement signals

$1.99 · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

TuneHelper turns your phone into an instrument-grade measurement-signal generator for car-audio DSP tuning. Stream its output into your car over Bluetooth, USB-C or a 3.5 mm cable and measure the result with REW (Room EQ Wizard) and a calibrated microphone. Every signal is synthesized in real time, sample by sample — no pre-rendered loops, no audible seams — at a precise, honest dBFS level you can re-tune live from the driver's seat. SIGNALS • Pink & white noise — continuous, loop-seamless • Log sweep & sub sweep — frequency response and impulse • Tone bursts — transients and decay • Periodic pink noise — synchronous averaging in REW • Dirac impulses — impulse response • Sine tone — 20 Hz to 20 kHz, with optional anti-phase • 1/3-octave band noise — 32 ISO 266 bands • Stepped-sine RTA — a tone walking all 32 band centres, hands-free • Multitone comb — up to 64 tones at once, the instant RTA • Gated pink burst — DSP settling and room decay • Synthetic kick drum — sub-to-front time alignment by ear • Brown noise — heavy low end for rattle hunting ALIGNMENT & STEREO TOOLS • Inter-channel delay dial — ±5 ms in 0.01 ms steps, read the value off in ms and cm • Correlation modes — correlated, uncorrelated or anti-phase • Auto L/R — hands-free alternation between the speakers, optionally via the phantom centre • Per-driver band noise — sub, woofer, midrange and tweeter presets • Anti-phase sine, a subsonic / high-pass finder and a rattle hunter with marks WHY TUNEHELPER • 100% real-time synthesis — every signal generated live, never a looped buffer • Click-free start, stop and switching • Live spectrum analyser with optional A/C weighting, RMS metering and a clip LED • Auto-pause — cycles play and silence for hands-free averaging in REW • Save and recall measurement presets • Background audio — keeps playing with the screen locked PRIVACY No accounts, no tracking, no data collection. All settings stay on your device. You bring the mic and REW — TuneHelper brings lab-grade signals to the driver's seat.

NEW SIGNALS • Warble — a tone that sweeps across a band instead of standing still. It averages out the room modes, so the same measurement taken twice gives the same answer. Works on the sine and on the stepped-sine RTA. • Distortion trainer — a clean tone against exactly computed distortion (1, 3, 10, 20 %), level-matched and switching hands-free. It teaches your ear what the onset of clipping sounds like, before the gain goes too far. • Percussion — the bass drum became four presets: Kick, Tom, Rim, Stick. The upper three sit on a crossover, which is where a misaligned pair of drivers becomes audible. • Stage walk — Auto-L/R now also runs five positions from left to right, so you hear whether the image moves in even steps, not just whether the extremes are right. • Ten-second check — click, driver-band noise, tom and kick one after the other, on a loop. All four should image at the same spot. BAND NOISE NOW MATCHES YOUR EQ • The band width is selectable: 1/3, 2/3 or 1/1 octave, so 32, 16 or 11 bands. If the EQ in the car has ten bands, set the grid to octave and it looks like your DSP. Otherwise you are hunting a dip no slider can reach. METERS YOU CAN ACTUALLY READ • The spectrum shows band power instead of the single loudest value. Noise used to be nearly invisible; pink now reads as a flat line. • The VU and peak readouts gained ballistics. Impulses, tone bursts and percussion register at all — short signals used to leave the meters dark almost every frame. IN THE CAR • If Bluetooth or USB drops, playback stops instead of quietly falling back to the phone speaker. • Night dim up to 70 %. It covers the content only; the transport and the meters stay readable. • Start delay and auto-stop, so you can reach the microphone in peace. • Next and previous on the steering wheel or lock screen step the band, or jump between your rattle marks. • The route chip shows the sample rate, and the bar warns you when the system volume sits at zero. HANDLING • Stop is a transport: when nothing plays it reads Play and resumes. • A long press on a quick tile stores the current frequency on it. • Presets show their reference level and date, and ask first when one turns things up a lot. • A dot in the tab bar shows which tab the playing signal lives on. • First launch is a skippable intro rather than a gate. • Measurement settings can be reset in one step.
