Day and Night Journal

Private day and night journal

Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

No in-app purchases, subscriptions, or ads. Just a calm space to reflect morning and night. Your words stay yours — synced only through your iCloud, never our servers. A calm, private journal for your morning and your night — built so you can throw out our questions and write your own. WHY IT'S DIFFERENT • Nothing to buy. No ads, no subscriptions, no upsells, no "pro" tier. • No company server. Your entries live on your device and sync only through your own private iCloud. We never see them, because they never reach us. • Nothing is sold, mined, or used to train anything. No analytics, no tracking, no third-party SDKs. • Nothing is downloaded after you install it. The whole app works offline. • Sign in with Apple is the only sign-in there is. No email, no password, no profile. WHAT YOU GET • Two moments a day: intentions, gratitude and to-dos in the morning; meals, movement, mood and thoughts at night. • Every prompt is yours — add, rename, reorder, retype or remove any of them. • Fourteen kinds of prompt: paragraphs, single lines, numbers, sliders, yes/no, single- and multi-select, checklists, times, tap-to-count, photos, stopwatches, a daily question, and recurring tasks. • NEW — Recurring tasks. Give a habit its own repeat: every day, certain weekdays, or every few days. Only what's due turns up, and each task keeps its own streak. • NEW — Patterns, off until you turn it on. It compares numbers you have already written and tells you when two of them tend to move together. Worked out on this device, from your own journal. • Apple Health, optional and read-only: sleep, steps and exercise fill themselves in. • Home Screen widgets for your streak, a daily goal, a to-do, a tap-counter and a stopwatch. • Unfinished to-dos roll forward to tomorrow on their own. • Take it with you: a printable PDF book, a CSV, or a full backup. • iPhone and iPad — two columns on iPad, one on iPhone, with hardware-keyboard support. THINGS TO TRY • Open Edit my questions and delete half of them. The journal you keep is the one that asks what you actually want to answer. • Add a recurring task for something you keep meaning to do twice a week, then look at Insights in a fortnight. • Turn Patterns on and leave it alone for a couple of weeks. It needs 14 days where both things were filled in, and it says so plainly when nothing stands out. • Put the Daily Goal widget on your Home Screen and pick one number to keep an eye on. • Removed a prompt and want it back? Edit my questions, then Removed fields. The answers were never deleted. • Ask Siri to add something to today's to-do list. Reflect in the morning. Unwind at night. Keep it private. Make it yours.

Recurring tasks, patterns in your own entries, and a new tab bar. RECURRING TASKS A new kind of field for the things you do on a schedule. Give each task its own repeat — every day, certain days of the week, or every few days — and only what's actually due turns up on the day. Each task keeps its own streak, and today never counts against you until the day has happened. PATTERNS — OPTIONAL, AND OFF UNTIL YOU TURN IT ON Switch it on and the app compares numbers you have already written — sleep, mood, steps, habits — and tells you when two of them tend to move together. All of it is worked out on this device from your own journal. Nothing is sent anywhere, no account is involved, and it asks for no new permissions. It needs at least 14 days where both things were filled in, and when nothing stands out it says so rather than inventing something. It can tell you what happened together — never why. A NEW TAB BAR Today, History, Insights and Settings now sit along the bottom of the screen. Settings used to be hidden behind the wordmark at the top, which nothing on screen hinted at. BRING BACK A FIELD YOU REMOVED Removing a prompt never deleted the answers behind it, and now there is a way back to it: Edit my questions → Removed fields. Each one shows how many answers it is still holding, so you can tell what you are bringing back. SMALLER THINGS • History opens on Over time when there is something to chart. • Settings is tidier — Journal health has moved to the bottom and starts closed. • Sharing the app, and finding the other Plain and Simple apps, are easier. • A faster Settings screen, and a fix so an exported copy of your journal is never left behind on the device.
