Compare Snowball and Avalanche, see your debt-free date and what each plan saves. Skip a payment and see what it costs. One-time Pro unlock, no subscription. Syncs free.
Debt Descent shows you exactly when you'll be debt-free. Enter your real balances and APRs, and it lays out your payoff plans side by side so you can see which one gets you there faster and cheaper.
I built it while paying down my own debt, and the features are the ones I needed myself.
Add your debts and the extra you can pay each month, and Debt Descent runs both standard methods at once:
- Snowball: pay off the smallest balance first for quick wins
- Avalanche: pay off the highest APR first to save the most interest
You get real numbers:
- Your debt-free date and payoff time for each method
- Pick a debt-free date and see the extra it takes
- Total interest and total paid, side by side
- How much interest you save by picking one method over the other
- A "descent to zero" chart that plots every balance falling to zero
- A monthly budget breakdown: minimums vs. your extra, interest vs. principal
- What's left over: add your take-home pay (or read it from a paystub) and the bills outside the plan — rent or mortgage, insurance — and see what's really left each week, month, and year
It also handles the parts of real life that get in the way of a plan:
- Windfalls: add a future bonus or tax refund and watch your payoff date move up
- Skip or defer a month's payment, and see what it costs before you do
- Refinance and consolidation: model a balance transfer, a loan, or new rates per account, then apply the deal in one step
- Payment groups: log one monthly payment that covers several debts and it splits to the cent
- Promo and deferred-interest tracking, so a 0% intro APR doesn't surprise you when it reverts
- Per-debt amortization schedules and "pay this down now" what-ifs
- Payment logging that tracks your real progress against the plan, so you know if you're ahead or behind
- Due-date reminders and calendar (.ics) export
- A shareable progress card in feed, square, and story sizes, with what your balances cost in interest each day
- Where it's owed: two rings on the Progress tab showing your balance by kind and by debt
- Siri, Shortcuts, and Spotlight: ask when you'll be debt-free, log a payment by voice, or find any debt, plus a widget for your home screen, lock screen, and Mac desktop
- Mortgage and medical debts, and a "Track only (leave out of plan)" option for balances you want to watch without putting them in the plan
- Built for accessibility: every screen follows Dynamic Type up to the largest sizes, and VoiceOver reads each field and row by name
Adding a card takes seconds:
- Scan a paper statement with the camera or open a statement PDF, and Debt Descent reads the balance, APR, minimum, and due date for you
- Or import and export your whole plan as JSON or PDF
Sync and privacy:
- iCloud sync keeps your debts, payments, and plan up to date across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It's automatic and free.
- There's no account, no sign-up, and no server on my end. Your data lives on your device and in your own private iCloud, where I can't see it.
- There's no bank linking. You type your balances or point the camera at a statement, and nothing connects to your accounts.
- Statement reading happens on your device with PDFKit, Vision, and Apple Intelligence. Nothing is uploaded.
Debt Descent is a native app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and one purchase covers all three.
Debt Descent is free to use: add your debts, run Snowball and Avalanche, see your debt-free date, track payments and progress, skip or defer a payment, see what's left over after debt and bills, share your progress card, read a statement on your device, and export your payments as a CSV. A one-time Pro upgrade ($14.99, unlocks on all your devices and, with Family Sharing, your family's; no subscription) adds five more payoff methods including a custom order you set yourself, the what-if slider and per-debt payoff tests, picking your debt-free date, windfalls, refinance modeling, amortization schedules, PDF and calendar export, and due-date reminders.
I unlocked the Pro subscription since this is the only debt planner that had most, if not all, of the features I was seeking in coming up with a plan to pay off debt. I am a visual person and I’m motivated by interactive interfaces. Adding an account was straightforward and logging a payment is easy to do. What I would love for the developer to consider is having a deferment option for student loans when adding those accounts. That way I don’t have to add $1 just to hold the place when I want to list/track the loan amount. Other than that, I have no complaints. Great work!

Thank you for your review! The student loan deferment is a great idea. I've added that... and the new version will be live as soon as App Review releases it.When the app updates, just edit the student loan and turn on "In deferment — nothing due yet," set the date the deferment ends, and clear that $1 placeholder. Until that date the loan sits in your list with nothing due; when the date arrives it joins the plan on its own, and its payment comes out of your extra first so your monthly total doesn't change. There's a second switch for subsidized loans that don't accrue interest while deferred. Thanks for unlocking Pro and for taking the time to write! If anything else would make the app better, please don't hesitate to let me know: support@seanmandable.me.

Super easy to use, helpful, and a great way to track my debt. It’s also pretty educational as well. The clean design makes me WANT to use it.
Very useful and user friendly

I suggest getting the paid version as it has more options. I know it might seem counterintuitive if you’re in debt lol, but it’s worth it. Debt Descent is the first debt app I've kept on my phone… I entered my balances, set what I could pay each month, and it showed me exactly when I'd be done. Thank goodness because being in debt sucks! But with this app, it makes it seem manageable & like their is an end in site. Highly recommend!
New in 1.19
• Choose what happens to a paid-off debt's payment, with the new Roll payments forward switch in Settings ▸ Plan. On, the payment moves on to your next debt, which is how Snowball and Avalanche finish sooner. Off, you keep that money each month: each debt pays its own minimum, a paid-off debt's payment leaves your plan, and only your extra (if you've set any) moves between debts. The switch starts on, so your plan works just as it did before, and the setting syncs to your other devices.
• The interest tile on the Plan tab now shows what your debts cost in interest per day as its big figure, with today's running total beside it. Before, the big figure was the running total, which started over at $0 every midnight. To show the tile, turn on Settings ▸ Plan ▸ Interest per day tile.
If you skipped 1.18 or 1.18.1, here are the highlights:
• On the Plan tab, a debt's ••• menu has "Skip this month's payment" and "Defer to next month," and you can press and hold the payment in Upcoming payments (right-click on the Mac) for the same choices. Before you confirm, Debt Descent tells you what that costs.
• Debt-free by (Pro): in the Plan tab's "Extra toward debt each month" card, pick a month and a year, and Debt Descent tells you how much extra it takes.
• Upcoming payments works like a calendar, and History's ••• menu exports your payments (CSV free, PDF with Pro) or clears older ones.
• If you already have debts, importing a plan asks "Add to my plan" or "Replace everything," and every plan PDF you export carries your plan inside it, so it imports back.
Thank you for using Debt Descent! If something isn't working the way you'd expect, please don't hesitate to let me know at support@seanmandable.me.
