Sugo: Recipe Saver & Cookbook
Recipe keeper and organizer
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad
Paste a TikTok link, an Instagram post, a screenshot, or a photo of a cookbook page. Sugo reads the ingredients and the steps, cleans them up, and files the recipe in your cookbook.
No copy-paste. No 900 words about someone's summer in Provence.
SAVE IT FROM ANYWHERE
TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Pinterest, any recipe site on the web, a screenshot sitting in your camera roll, or a photo of a page in a paper cookbook. Throw it at Sugo and it pulls out the title, the ingredients, the steps and the timings, and keeps the link back to whoever wrote it.
COOK IT HANDS FREE
Step by step cook mode that keeps the screen awake, with voice control for the moments your hands are covered in flour. Ask Sugo a question in the middle of a recipe and it answers from the recipe you are actually cooking.
COOK WHAT IS ALREADY IN YOUR KITCHEN
Tell Sugo what you have and it shows you what is cookable tonight, ranked by what you can make right now instead of by when you saved it.
PLAN THE WEEK
Drop recipes onto the days you want them, and let Sugo suggest the side that finishes the plate. Everyone in the house can vote on dinner. The shopping list builds itself, merges duplicate ingredients and sorts by aisle.
COOK TOGETHER
Cook Party puts two or more people in the same recipe at the same time, steps in sync, photos shared as you go.
NUMBERS THAT BEHAVE
Scale servings up or down, switch between metric and imperial, and get real conversions instead of rounded guesses.
Sugo is free to use. Sugo+ and Famiglia unlock unlimited imports and household features.
Signing in keeps your recipes, cookbooks, households and plans in sync across your devices.
SUBSCRIPTIONS
Sugo offers optional auto-renewable subscriptions (Sugo+ and Famiglia), available as monthly or yearly plans. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. Your subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the period. You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime in your App Store account settings. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.

more After trying several other apps, I was honestly pretty disappointed. A lot of them either had poor quality or locked even basic features behind a paywall. This app has been a much better experience so far. And this app is packed with features. I especially look the cook party feature!

This is probably the most polished cooking app out there. I’ve tried several but they either miss features or lock most of them behind paywalls. This app has everything you could ask for, and is all free (with limits).I recommend!

Set timers by voice
While you talk to Sugo in cook mode, say "start the timer" and it starts the timer written on the step you're on. You can ask for any other one too, like "ten minutes for the pasta", and say "stop the timer" when it rings. The conversation carries on while the timer runs, so you never have to touch the screen.
The upgrade option shows when you add a cookbook
On a free account that had reached its cookbook limit, tapping Create cookbook did nothing. Sugo now shows the upgrade options instead.
A light launch screen in dark mode
On a phone set to dark mode, Sugo no longer opens on a dark launch screen that then flips to a light app. It opens light, and turns dark only if you picked the dark theme in Sugo.
Smaller fixes
On iPad and iPhone Duo, the Plan badge in the sidebar now counts only this week's dinner votes, not ones left open on past days. A link to a page that doesn't exist now opens a page with a way back to Home or your Library.
1.1.7 10h ago
Three dinners for your week
On Sunday afternoon, if nothing is planned for the week ahead, Sugo can suggest three dinners. Untick any you don't fancy and the rest go on your free evenings. Sugo can also remind you about a recipe you saved a few days ago and haven't cooked yet, and it tells you when your pantry already has everything for it. Each reminder has its own switch in notification settings. If notifications are off, Sugo offers to turn them on just after you save a recipe or plan a dinner, at most once a month.
Voice in cook mode works again
A bug was ending every voice conversation in cook mode as soon as it connected. It's fixed, and Sugo now knows which step you're on, so you can ask about the one in front of you.
Grids and side-by-side pages on iPad
On iPad and an open iPhone Duo, your Library is now a grid of cards. On a 13-inch iPad in landscape, a recipe opens as three pages side by side (the photo, the ingredients and the method), and Shopping and Pantry show their controls and the list in two panes. Screens now load in the layout they finish in, so nothing jumps when they're ready.
When a site blocks imports
Some sites turn away automated readers even when the page works fine. When that happens, Sugo now says so and suggests pasting the recipe text or importing a screenshot.
Buttons you can see on dark photos
The round buttons over a recipe's photo stay easy to see on dark pictures, where they used to turn almost black.
1.1.6 1d ago
Read any recipe in your language
Open a recipe, tap the flag next to Add to your plan, and choose a language. The recipe changes language on the page, line by line: the title, the ingredients and every step. Amounts, times and oven temperatures stay exactly as written, and the recipe keeps opening in the language you chose. Pick Original in the same list to go back. You can choose English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese, Japanese or Chinese, and you can also ask the assistant to translate a recipe for you. Free accounts get five translations a month.
Import a recipe that runs over several pages
When you photograph a recipe, tap Add a page to include up to four photos of the same recipe, such as the ingredients on one page and the method on the next. Sugo reads them together as one recipe. If the pages hold more than one recipe, Sugo keeps the first and tells you.
More of Sugo in your language
If you use Sugo in French or Spanish, cook mode timers now name their step in your language, and error messages are no longer in English.
Recipes zoom open from Home
Opening a recipe from your library on Home now always zooms in from its card, instead of sometimes sliding in.
1.1.5 4d ago
Designed for iPhone Duo
Sugo now fits both displays. With iPhone Duo closed, its controls sit in the side bar next to your recipes, the way iOS lays out its own apps. Open it and Sugo uses the whole display, with recipes spread across both halves like a cookbook. Fold or unfold whenever you like: you stay on the same screen.
More room on iPad
iPad mini held upright now gets the full iPad layout with the sidebar. In Split View, recipes switch to a single column that's easy to read instead of being squeezed.
Your recipes stay in your words
Editing a recipe you wrote in another language now opens your own text, not its translation, so saving no longer replaces what you wrote.
1.1.4 5d ago
Plans open again from your account
In the last two versions, if you weren't subscribed, tapping Manage your plan in your account could do nothing until you restarted the app. The plans now open every time, and they appear without a loading spinner.
Sugo opens faster
Your first screen shows up sooner when you open the app, and Sugo waits until it's on screen before doing its background work.
1.1.3 Oct 21
Your profile, library and cookbooks open again
In the last version, tapping your picture on Home, View all, the cookbook shortcut in search or a cookbook invite could send you straight back to Home. They all go where they should again.
Turn one dish into a meal
Put a main on your plan and tap Pair: Sugo suggests a side, a drink and a dessert to go with it, from your own recipes and from Discover. If you haven't tried it yet, a short tip shows you how, using a dish already on your plan.
1.1.2 Oct 18
A faster app
Recipes open sooner after you tap them, Home appears faster when you open the app, and moving between Home, Plan and Lists is smoother. On the Lists tab, Shopping and Pantry now switch instantly, and each one keeps your place.
Tips for what you haven't tried
Short tips now introduce features you haven't used yet: cooking with friends in a Cook party, asking the assistant what to cook, sharing your plan and shopping list with the people you live with, hands-free cook mode, and planning the week. Anything you already use, even on another device, is never suggested.
Plus
Picking a cover photo is simpler: choose one from your photos, take one, or use a frame from the original post. Photos now upload reliably whatever format your phone saves them in. Recipe cards drop their small status labels. Quantities like bay leaves and loaves of bread now count correctly. Recipes you bring over from another app keep your notes.
1.1.1 Oct 18
Know what a recipe costs
Recipes now show an estimated cost per serving, from average grocery prices, and the total follows the number of servings you pick. Filter Discover by budget, or ask Sugo for a dinner that fits yours. Costs cover the US, Canada, the UK and France so far. To change which country's prices you see, tap Change under a recipe's cost, or go to Settings > Prices from.
Ask Sugo about the app
Ask "how do I" or "where is" and Sugo answers from the app's own screens, and tells you plainly when something isn't there yet. Paste a recipe into the chat and Sugo saves it to your library. You can send us feedback from the chat too, and a voice reply you interrupt now stays in the conversation.
Plus
Before asking to send you notifications, Sugo shows you a week of what they look like, so you know what you're agreeing to. Photo posts with the recipe printed on the images now import.
1.1.0 Oct 11
Pick your cover from the video
When you change the cover of a recipe imported from a video, "From the post" opens the original. Drag along the film strip to the shot you want and use it as the cover. For a photo post, flip through the slides and pick one.
Imported recipes show as saved
A recipe you just imported now shows as saved straight away, so you can change its cover right after importing.
Cook Now widget fixed
The Cook Now widget no longer shows up black or empty when you first add it, and it keeps up as your pantry changes.
1.0.9 Oct 10
Point at a recipe and ask
When Ask Sugo shows you recipes, tap reply on one or a few and your next message is about those. Quick chips save them, plan them, add their ingredients to your shopping list, find what goes with them, or help you pick one for tonight. Each card also says where it lives: your remix, Discover or your library. Ask Sugo can now check your shopping list too.
Cook from what you have
The home screen now suggests a dish you can make from your pantry, with how many of your ingredients it uses and what you'd still need.
For You on the home screen
New recipes picked from what you save now show up on the home screen, not only on Discover.
Did you make it?
When a recipe was on your plan or open in cook mode, the home screen asks whether you made it. Say yes to mark it cooked and rate it.
Siri listens for the dish
Say "Search Sugo" and Siri asks what you'd like to cook and takes your answer, instead of offering a list. On iOS 27 you can name the dish in the same sentence. Siri now answers in French and Spanish too.
Plus
Recipes saved by people you follow are laid out like Discover, with time, servings and who saved each one. The recipe you last opened comes first in your library on the home screen, and plan prices show exactly what you'll be charged.
1.0.8 Oct 4
Have it? Tap it
The Tonight cards and the list of recipes you may be able to cook now show what each dish is missing. Tap an ingredient you already have to add it to your pantry, and the bar under the recipe fills to show how close you are.
Fewer suggestions you keep passing on
Pass on three dishes that need the same missing ingredient and Tonight asks whether to stop suggesting it. Say yes and it goes into Ingredients you dislike, where you can remove it any time.
For You from the start
The For You row on Discover now shows up before you've saved many recipes, with a few good places to start. Tap "pick dishes" to tell it what you like. A suggestion can also say which of your saved recipes it resembles.
Fill an empty list in one tap
An empty shopping list can now add this week's planned meals in one go, or let you pick recipes from your library right there and add their ingredients.
Plus
For new cooks, "Snap a photo" on the home screen opens the camera straight away. The shopping list opens at the top, and live scan no longer fails to load when its model updates in the background. Buttons, headers and filters now match across the app, and secondary text is easier to read.
1.0.7 Oct 2
Live scan counts as you move
Pan along a shelf and each item is counted once, even when it leaves the frame and comes back.
More packaged foods, on sight
The scanner now recognizes ketchup, mayonnaise, yogurt, olive oil, honey, hummus, peanut butter, soy sauce, orange juice and canned tomatoes, and reads labels more reliably. A recipe printed on the side of a carton no longer names what is inside.
Cook with others
The home screen now offers two clear choices side by side: share your kitchen with the people you live with (same pantry, list and plan), or cook together tonight, one recipe live in every kitchen.
A clearer walk through the store
When you walk the store with your list, the aisle name sits at the top and a bar at the bottom shows how far along each aisle you are. Swipe between aisles, or go back to the previous one.
Plus
Titles have a new typeface, and mangoes are recognized more reliably.
1.0.6 Sep 30
Live scan
Point your camera at a fridge shelf or the counter and watch ingredients appear as the scanner spots them. Nothing is added until you review the list. The scanner is a one-time download that stays on your phone, and it needs iOS 17 or later. Photo scanning is still there too.
Filter what you can cook
The ready-to-cook list from your pantry now filters by course and cuisine, so you can go straight to a main or a side.
Filter your following feed
Show only the recipes one cook you follow has saved, or narrow the feed by diet and cooking time.
Plus
Pantry items added while offline tell you if they could not be saved, and counts read correctly when there is just one of something.
1.0.5 Sep 28
Know what you can scan
The pantry scanner now opens with a short guide: a fridge or cupboard shelf, a grocery haul, a receipt, or a shopping list. It also shows what makes a photo read well, and nothing is added until you have checked the list.
What +N means
Quick add now explains the badge. +N is how many more recipes you could cook if you had that ingredient.
A way through when sign-in stalls
If a sign-in does not finish, you can now pick another way to sign in instead of being stuck on the same screen.
Plus
Ingredient quantities read more naturally, tapping a notification opens the right screen, and a few headings and labels have been tidied.
1.0.4 Sep 21
Quick add knows what you're missing
Pantry quick add now leads with the ingredients that would make the most recipes cookable. The +N on each one is how many more recipes you could cook if you had it.
Scan more than the fridge
The pantry scanner now shows everything it can read: a fridge shelf, a grocery haul, a receipt or a shopping list. Nothing is added until you've checked the list.
Import from your clipboard in one tap
Copied a recipe link? Tap Use on the import screen and the import starts right away.
Plus
The home screen widget now counts the same dinners as the app, the Ask Sugo button eases back in when you close a recipe, delete actions are a clearer red, and signing out is a calmer button.
1.0.3 Sep 17
Plan your week by dragging
Move a meal to another day or swap two around by picking it up and dropping it where you want it. No menus, no re-adding.
Cook profiles worth visiting
Creator pages now lead with who someone is, and you can search everything they've written without leaving the page.
Learn the technique, not just the recipe
Tap any technique to see what it is, what level it sits at, and what it builds on.
Sugo feels like part of the app now
Ask Sugo grows out of the button you tapped instead of sliding in over everything, and you can pull it away with a finger. The same goes for the cooking assistant in cook mode.
Better search
Results are ranked on what you actually meant, so the recipe you were thinking of turns up first.
Plus
Your shopping list tells you how many items are waiting, the week strip shows what's planned and what still needs a vote, and buttons throughout the app now answer to the touch.
1.0.2 Sep 16
Complete the meal. Pick a main for a day in your plan and Sugo now suggests a side that actually goes with it, added to the plan in one tap.
Ask Sugo with pictures. You can attach a photo to a question now, so you can point at what is in the fridge or at a page in a cookbook instead of describing it.
Faster, steadier imports across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and Pinterest, including recipes that only exist in the audio of a video.
Smoother servings and measurement changes, plus a long list of fixes across the cookbook, the plan and the shopping list.
1.0.1 Sep 10
