cardlio: Business Card Reader
Scan cards into contacts
Only for Mac
Free · In‑App Purchases
Made for macOS 27: Siri knows your cards. New: Apple's Private Cloud Compute reads each card's address from its photo. One purchase, every export included.
Scan a card once and never check it twice. cardlio shows you exactly what it read, flags the fields it wasn't sure of, and zooms to that spot on the card so you can confirm in a second — instead of re-reading every contact you save.
Free to try: scan up to 10 cards. Unlock cardlio once — a single purchase, no subscription — for unlimited cards, every export, and sync to Office 365 and Google Contacts.
NO SIGNAL, NO PROBLEM
Conference Wi-Fi is where card scanners fail. cardlio reads every card on your device, with no server in the loop — so a whole stack scans just as fast on hotel Wi-Fi or with no connection at all as it does at your desk.
SCAN ANYTHING WITH A CARD ON IT
• Live camera capture finds the card, straightens it, and reads it — even several cards in one shot
• Scan both sides; a Japanese front and an English back become one contact
• Import photos or whole PDF stacks at once
• Paste an email signature and get a contact, no photo needed
THE WHOLE CARD, NOT JUST A NAME AND A NUMBER
cardlio reads every line: title, company, every phone and email, the website, and the full street address down to building and postcode, checked against Apple Maps and pinned. It reads the layout, not just the letters: the big name up top is the person, the line by the logo is the company. ALL-CAPS names, spaced-out emails, foreign address formats and multi-office cards come out right.
ONE CONTACT PER PERSON
Scanned someone twice? cardlio finds the duplicates and merges them properly — the survivor keeps every phone number, email and note from both.
YOUR NETWORK, VISIBLE
• Ask your network a question in plain English and get an answer from your own cards — free, and it works offline
• A world map with your contacts' cards as pins
• Stats: countries, companies, industries, growth over time
• Search that filters — click suggestions like "Industry: Finance"
HAND OUT YOUR CARD WITHOUT THE CARD
• Keep several cards — work, personal, a side project — and switch with a click
• Share it as a link — your whole card travels inside the link and opens in any browser with an Add to Contacts button (free)
• Show a QR code anyone's camera can scan (free)
• Build it as a Wallet pass on your Mac and send it to your iPhone, QR included
GET YOUR CARDS OUT (premium)
• Sync straight into your Office 365 / Outlook contacts — one click, no duplicates, even Business Fax
• Sync into your Google Contacts the same way — edit a card, sync again, and it updates that contact instead of adding another
• Save cards to your Apple Contacts
• Hand a colleague a set: pick several cards and send them as one contact file
• Export vCard, CSV, Outlook-ready CSV, and Salesforce-ready CSV
ALSO
• Team libraries: share a fair's cards with colleagues, claim your leads, open the team in any browser at team.cardlio.app
• Syncs across Mac, iPhone, and iPad through your private iCloud
• Follow-up emails drafted on your device by Apple Intelligence — nothing is sent to a server
• Translate foreign cards, and search across scripts — type "shiquan" and find the card printed in Chinese
• Siri and Shortcuts: scan a card, open one, or export a vCard from your own workflows
YOUR CONTACTS OUTLIVE US
No accounts and no servers means there is nothing to shut down. Your library lives on your own devices and syncs through your private iCloud. Exports are vCard and CSV — open formats every address book reads. If cardlio vanished tomorrow, everything you scanned would still be yours, and still readable.
No tracking, no analytics, no server reading your contacts. Office 365 and Google sync send contacts only to your own account with those services. Optionally bring your own AI key for the trickiest cards — off by default.
cardlio is also on the iOS App Store — scan at the conference, tidy up at your desk.
more New with Apple's Private Cloud Compute: while you review a scan, the address and company are now also read from the card's photo, so building, unit, city, postcode and country come out right much more often. You can switch it off under Settings → AI & Refine → Read the Address from the Photo.
Sharper address reading: a card that prints two offices side by side keeps one office's address and puts the other in the notes, and a founding year printed under the logo no longer ends up in the street.
On a Mac with the local address reader installed, the local reader does this instead.
3.2.25 1d ago
Sharper address reading: Indonesian street names written “Jl.” no longer come out as “JI.”, stray zeros from address icons are left out, Dublin’s postal district stays out of the street, and Irish Eircodes are recognised.
3.2.24 4d ago
Much of this update comes from your feedback – thank you for writing in.
Contact format: choose how phone numbers are written – international with spaces, compact or plain – the separator before an extension, and capitals for surname, company or city. "Apply to All Cards…" updates your library in one go. You'll find it in the new Contacts tab in Settings.
VAT numbers: the VIES result is now kept with the card, and "Apply to card" copies the registered company and address into it, field by field.
Email signature: the company heads your address, the contact details line up in one column, and a new option writes the labels in full (Mobile, Email, Web) with the whole web address. The plain-text version leaves out the long card link unless you ask for it.
CRM webhook: "Send All Cards…" sends the cards already in your library, an option sends a card again after you edit it, and a send that fails is retried automatically.
Gallery: a Whole Card switch in the toolbar shows every card uncropped.
Also: your My Card photo keeps its orientation, Italia and Italy count as one country in Stats, and Apple Wallet passes use your card's colour and show your mobile on the front.
Private, as always: no account, no tracking, no data collected, and cardlio never contacts the people you scan.
3.2.23 5d ago
Sharper reading, field by field.
Names and titles: a name printed on the same line as the job title is split out, and a title keeps its department or team line ("Vice President, Ship Finance Division").
Companies: the full printed name wins over a short logo – "… Singapore Pte Ltd", "GmbH & Co. KG" – and a slogan is no longer taken for the company. Read with Local AI now fills in the company too.
Addresses: labels, names and company lines no longer sit in front of the street. A card with two offices keeps the person's own office and puts the other in Notes, under "Other locations".
Phone numbers printed as (65) or (86) get their + country code, and are formatted again when the back of the card brings the country.
Your devices in step: a change made on your iPhone shows up in a card already open on your Mac.
Fixes: a scan that finds no card now says so, a damaged spreadsheet no longer stops an import, and restoring a backup, exporting to Contacts or editing a photo keeps the app responsive.
Private, as always: no account, no tracking, no data collected, and cardlio never contacts the people you scan.
3.2.20 6d ago
Made for business cards from everywhere.
VAT numbers: cardlio reads a company's VAT or tax number (P.IVA, USt-IdNr., TVA, BTW, VAT No.) into its own field. Check in VIES confirms an EU number with the European Commission – only when you click it, and only the number is sent.
Clearer photos: a card photographed in poor light is brightened, so the paper looks white.
Your own industries: in Settings → Tags, start from the built-in list, add several at once, see how many cards use each one, and rename one together with its cards.
Sharper reading: Italian and Greek addresses, VAT numbers kept out of the phone fields, job titles without the company name tacked on, and numbers printed as (+39) come out clean.
Private, as always: no account, no tracking, no data collected, and cardlio never contacts the people you scan.
3.2.15 Oct 20
After the fair, in fewer steps.
Event Report: File → Event Report… puts one fair on a page — everyone you met there, hot leads first, with your rating, their interests and who you still owe a follow-up. Export it as a PDF to send on, or as a CSV for a spreadsheet or CRM.
Rate as you scan: in Event mode, Hot, Warm or Cold sits at the top of each scanned card, so you rate people while the conversation is still fresh. Then the Follow-Up Run (⇧⌘U) takes you through everyone you met there, one drafted email at a time.
Private, as always: no account, no tracking, no data collected, and cardlio never contacts the people you scan.
3.2.13 Oct 14
A cleaner, clearer cardlio.
A tidier toolbar: Add holds files, a pasted signature and another app's export; Ask is labelled; Map, Stats, Find Duplicates and the Team Library share one Tools menu.
Gallery tiles say where you met or when the card was added, instead of repeating what the card shows, and only addresses Apple Maps couldn't find are marked.
A card's panel: the Refine button says what it does, Call, Email, Message and Add sit in one row, the local time is shown once with the city, and empty fields show a pale hint.
Reviewing a scan is easier, Settings explains the AI providers in two lines, dark mode is easier to read, and the example questions in Ask your network work again.
Private, as always: no account, no tracking, no data collected, and cardlio never contacts the people you scan.
3.2.12 Oct 12
Ask your network now understands what you mean.
Ask in your own words, like "banks or investment firms in Singapore" or "the person who books cargo ships", and cardlio finds the right people even when those words are not on their cards. Turn it on in Settings → Local Models: a one-time download of about 305 MB.
Found on your Mac.
The search runs on your Mac; the cards are never uploaded to find a match. With Apple Private Cloud Compute as your AI provider, only your question and the few cards found go to Apple to write the answer, and the caption under each answer says who searched and who wrote.
Settings: the Local Model tab is now Local Models, with the address reader and meaning search side by side.
Ask your network needs Apple Intelligence (macOS 27).
Private, as always: no account, no tracking, no data collected, and cardlio never contacts the people you scan.
3.2.10 Oct 9
After the fair: the follow-up run.
File → Follow-Up Run takes you through everyone from one event: a drafted email for each, Open in Mail to send it from your own mail app, then Done and on to the next.
Who you met where.
Stats now draws your fairs and the companies you met at each. A company you met at several fairs sits in the middle. Click one to see its cards.
Keep your library current.
Check Email Domains finds companies whose domain has gone, and addresses misread when the card was scanned, with a one-click fix. Match LinkedIn Connections reads the connections file you download from LinkedIn and shows who has moved to another company.
From any app.
Select a name or an email address anywhere and choose Services → Find in cardlio; select a signature and choose Send Signature to cardlio. If Find in cardlio is not listed yet, quit and reopen cardlio once.
Planning a trip? On the Map, move to the city and click Cards in this area.
In the browser at team.cardlio.app: a map of your cards, a one-page meeting brief, local times and a QR code for a phone.
Private, as always: no account, no tracking, no data collected, and cardlio never contacts the people you scan.
3.2.8 Oct 8
Your cards in any browser.
Away from your Mac and iPhone? Sign in at team.cardlio.app with your Apple Account, and My cards shows your whole library with its photos. Search every field, filter by event, lead rating, follow-up owed or reconnect due, and open any card.
Change what a call changes.
Rate a lead, set the event, add a note after a call or mark a follow-up done in the browser, and it is on your Mac a moment later. Downloading your cards as contacts, a spreadsheet or a ZIP comes with the unlock.
Straight from your own iCloud.
The page talks to your private iCloud directly, after Apple's own sign-in: there is no server of ours in between, and we never see your cards. After updating, keep cardlio open for a few minutes so it can prepare the small photo previews the page shows.
Your teams are on the same page. Help and the handbook explain it all.
Private, as always: no account, no tracking, no data collected, and cardlio never contacts the people you scan.
3.2.6 Oct 6
Every card, a clean contact sheet.
Open a saved card and the editor reads like a contact sheet. Where you met, the lead rating, the follow-up and keep in touch sit as chips at the top: click one to set it.
Reach, in one place.
Each email and number has its own row, edited in place. Hover a row to write or call, copy or remove it, and use + Add for another number. Phone, mobile and fax can now be removed like an email.
Addresses that read like an envelope.
The address shows in the order its country writes it, beside a small map that opens Apple Maps, with the local time there. Edit gives the fields with Cancel and Done, and Done checks a changed address on Apple Maps straight away. Read with Local AI sits right under the address, and the ⋯ menu holds check again, open in Maps and remove from map.
Help and the handbook walk through the new editor.
Private, as always: no account, no tracking, no data collected, and cardlio never contacts the people you scan.
3.2.4 Oct 4
Your card, wherever people look.
Turn My Card into an email signature with a Save my contact link and an optional QR code, or into a background for Zoom, Teams and Meet with a QR code people on the call can scan to save your contact.
Voice notes, now on the Mac.
Record Context in the review sheet, or the microphone beside Notes in the editor. Hold it while you talk, or click to start and click to stop; everything stays on your Mac. cardlio already knows whose card it is, so the name and company come out as printed on the card. A Mac mini or Mac Studio needs a headset or microphone.
Lock the library.
An optional Touch ID or password lock, in Settings ▸ General. It also locks when your Mac sleeps. Off unless you switch it on.
Coming from another card app?
File ▸ Library ▸ Import from Another App reads the vCard, CSV and Excel exports of other scanner apps, Outlook and Google, skips anyone already in your library and tidies the phone numbers.
Also:
- People who open your card link can send you their details back, through their own email or messages app.
- Company Insights sends nothing until you click: the company search now has its own button, like the person lookup.
- The CRM webhook works with Zapier or Make, with step-by-step recipes at cardlio.app/crm.html.
Private, as always: no account, no tracking, no data collected, and cardlio never contacts the people you scan.
3.2.2 Oct 3
Leads, rated.
Mark a card Hot, Warm or Cold and add your own interest tags, in the review after a scan or later on the card. Ratings show in the library, can be searched, and travel with your CSV exports, your CRM webhook and the team library. They are never written into a vCard, because a vCard is also how you share a contact.
Keep in touch.
Tell cardlio how often you want to reconnect with someone. It shows who is due, can draft a short note on your Mac, and can set a repeating reminder in Reminders. No notifications from cardlio.
Who is this?
In Company Insights, one tap looks a person up on the web with your own Claude or Gemini key and shows what it found, with its sources. It runs only when you tap, sends the name, company, title, website and city, never an email address or phone number, and saves nothing unless you say so.
Private, as always.
No account, no tracking, no data collected. Your cards stay on your devices and in your own iCloud, and leave only when you choose: an export, a sync, your own AI key.
Also: backups now keep follow-up marks and translations, and merging duplicates keeps the event, the industry and the follow-up.
Made for macOS 27.
Siri knows your cards, Apple's Private Cloud Compute refines a hard card with no API key, and the optional local model reads addresses entirely on your Mac.
3.2 Oct 1
Ask your network, sharper.
Ask "Who do I know at …?" or "Who handles logistics in Rotterdam?" and cardlio now searches your cards first, then answers only from the cards it found. With Apple as your provider the answer comes from Apple's Private Cloud Compute; otherwise it is worked out on your Mac. A company's full name now finds it, even when many companies share one of its words.
Your industries, exactly.
Industry tags from Apple's models always come from your list, including the industries you added yourself.
Made for macOS 27.
Siri knows your cards, Apple's Private Cloud Compute refines a hard card with no API key, and the optional local model reads addresses entirely on your Mac.
3.1.4 Sep 29
Opens again on macOS 26.
Version 3.1.2 would not start on Macs still running macOS 26. This update fixes that — sorry for the trouble.
Made for macOS 27.
Siri knows your cards, Apple's Private Cloud Compute refines a hard card with no API key, and Ask your network answers from your own cards — now finding people by their company far more reliably.
A better local address model.
The optional model in Settings → Local Model now reads more addresses correctly and changes fewer that were already right. If you have the earlier model, it keeps working and Settings offers the update (about 3 GB); the old one is removed once the new one is in place.
Tidier addresses from the local model.
A postal district letter no longer ends up in the city, a postcode keeps the form printed on the card, and the city is no longer repeated at the end of the street.
3.1.3 Sep 28
Made for macOS 27.
Siri knows your cards, Apple's Private Cloud Compute refines a hard card with no API key, and Ask your network answers from your own cards.
Read addresses on your Mac, offline.
An optional local model, downloaded once in Settings → Local Model (about 3 GB), reads the street, building, unit, postcode, city and country from each card photo, entirely on your Mac. It runs after a scan and never changes a field you've edited; for a card already in your library, the editor shows you the changes before anything is saved. Needs Apple silicon and 16 GB of memory.
Help where you expect it.
Help → cardlio Help (⌘?) opens the guide, and the full User Guide is a click away.
Review in the order you scanned.
In Settings → Scanning, turn off "Show cards that need a look first" and the review follows your physical stack.
Your own industries.
In Settings → Industries, add the industries you work in, or use only your own list. It follows you to your other devices.
A cleaner map.
Clearing a card's address takes it off the map, and Remove from Map in the editor hides a card with several offices while keeping its address. An address that names only a country no longer drops a pin in the middle of it.
Tidier addresses.
Addresses printed with "|" between the parts are split properly, no field starts or ends with a stray comma, dash or bullet, and the review tells you when a card's QR code couldn't be read.
3.1.2 Sep 25
Made for macOS 27.
Apple's Private Cloud Compute refines a hard card with no API key, Ask your network answers from your own cards with Apple's on-device intelligence, and Siri knows your cards. Start-up no longer waits on Apple's intelligence framework before the window appears.
Team notes.
A shared note on any team card — "called Tuesday, send the brochure" — that everyone on the team sees, in the app and at team.cardlio.app. Edit it from either; the first line shows on the card.
Your team in any browser.
team.cardlio.app can now read a photo of a card with your own Claude or Gemini key and fill in the fields for you to check. Tick cards to claim, download or print just those; switch to a list view for a big team; filter to Mine or With notes; print a roster for the morning huddle. On a phone the actions sit in a bottom bar.
3.1.1 Sep 21
Team library, sharper.
A team you just joined appears at once. Add all N unclaimed takes every open lead in one go, Refresh shows what colleagues added, and a card someone else claimed can still be added to your own library as a copy. Two people can no longer claim the same lead in the same second.
Your team in any browser, now two-way.
At team.cardlio.app, colleagues without a Mac or an iPhone can add contacts by typing them in or dropping a vCard file (photo included), fix a typo for the whole team, claim all, release a claim, and download everything as one ZIP. New cards arrive while the page is open, and it installs like an app on any computer or phone.
Edits that land, stay.
A refine, a pronunciation guide or an industry tag is saved the moment it arrives, even if you leave the card right away.
CRM webhook.
A lead that couldn't reach your webhook is no longer lost: a banner keeps it, with Send again one tap away.
Sync.
If an Office 365 or Google Contacts sync can't save its progress, it says so and re-checks next time instead of creating duplicates; cancelling an Office 365 sync stops it at once.
Scanning.
Big PDFs and photo batches use far less memory, and Stop takes effect sooner.
Also.
Open in Maps labels the pin with the address. Rebuilt with Swift 6's stricter checks, which closed a number of rare crashes and lost-edit cases.
3.1 Sep 19
Team libraries.
At a fair you're rarely scanning alone. Create a team for the event, invite colleagues by their Apple Account, and share the cards you choose into one library the whole stand can see. Click a card to read it in full, then claim the leads you'll follow up, so nobody calls the same person twice. Nothing is shared automatically, and it all runs through iCloud: there's still no server of ours. It's the Team button in the toolbar; right-click cards in the gallery and choose Share with Team.
Your team in any browser.
Not everyone on the stand has a Mac or an iPhone. At team.cardlio.app, colleagues sign in with their Apple Account, join from the link you send (Copy Web Link in the team's people list), search the cards, claim leads, and download them as vCard or CSV.
Stop a scan.
Dropped in a longer PDF than you meant to? Click Stop in the footer. The cards already read go to review as usual; the rest are simply never started.
Pick who writes the company news.
Company Insights has its own provider setting now, so you can refine cards with Apple's Private Cloud Compute and still get company news from Claude or Gemini.
Sharper reading.
Chinese names come out in the right order, bilingual street addresses are read as one, and more Taiwanese cards read correctly.
Sturdier sync.
Office 365 and Google Contacts sync stop retrying forever when the service is down, and an interrupted sync no longer leaves duplicates behind.
Lighter library.
Card photos take less space, and thumbnails load faster in big libraries.
Fixes.
If a change can't be saved, cardlio tells you instead of failing silently. Fixes a crash on some cards laid out as tables.
3.0.3 Sep 18
Made for macOS 27.
Ask Siri about your cards.
Siri now knows your cards as people. Ask “who did I meet at the expo who does logistics?” and it answers from your library, or say “email the person from Tristar” and the card goes straight to Mail. It’s the same index Spotlight already keeps — nothing leaves your Mac.
Apple’s Private Cloud Compute.
Refine name, title and company with Apple’s much larger model — no API key, no account, and Apple’s servers keep nothing. Pick it as the provider in Settings → AI Providers and it runs the Refine button, the pronunciation guide, industry tags and the automatic polish. Settings shows where you stand against Apple’s daily limit, and when it’s reached the polish simply continues on your Mac.
QR codes that link to a contact page.
Many cards carry a QR code that opens a hosted contact page instead of a vCard. cardlio now recognises those, keeps the printed website as the website, and offers to fetch the contact details — one click, and only when you say so.
Address on the back? Both sides count.
Refine now sends the front and the back of the card to Claude, Gemini or Apple’s model, so an address printed on the back is read too. The built-in reader also handles building names like “One JLT” and district names like “Jumeirah Lakes Towers” properly.
E-mail addresses are checked.
When an e-mail’s domain doesn’t exist — usually one misread letter — the review sheet says so and offers the corrected address with one click.
Screenshots work too.
Share a screenshot of an e-mail signature, a chat message or a profile into cardlio and it reads the contact off the screen — name, title, company, phones, e-mail, address — leaving the subject line and the rest of the screen out.
Sharper reading.
Taiwanese and Dutch addresses, floor-and-room units, phone labels printed without colons, and logo type that repeats the company name are all read correctly now.
On earlier versions of macOS everything else works exactly as before.
2.6.15 Sep 16
Made for macOS 27.
Ask Siri about your cards.

When an e-mail’s domain doesn’t exist — usually one misread letter — the review sheet says so and offers the corrected address with one click.
Also in this update.
Ask your network lists the people it names as rows you can click, and opens the card.
On earlier versions of macOS everything else works exactly as before.
2.6.14 Sep 13
Made for macOS 27.
Ask Siri about your cards.
Siri now knows your cards as people. Ask “who did I meet at the expo who does logistics?” and it answers from your library, or say “email the person from Tristar” and the card goes straight to Mail. It’s the same index Spotlight already keeps — nothing leaves your Mac.

2.6.12 Sep 13
Google Contacts sign-in.
If the contacts box on Google’s permission screen was left unticked, sign-in still completed and every sync then failed with a wall of text. cardlio now checks what Google actually allowed: it tells you at sign-in, in plain words, and asks you to connect again with contacts ticked. If you connected on an earlier version and sync fails, the message now says the same thing instead of the raw error.
Names that came out blank.
Some first names — “Tim” among them — are read by the system’s text tagger as a company name, and cardlio was leaving the name empty. When the email address on the card names the person, the name now wins.
Two phone numbers on one line.
“T: … M: …” printed on a single line used to file both numbers as mobile, so the office number landed in the wrong field. Each number now keeps its own label.
A stray dash after the city.
“Dubai - U.A.E.” left “Dubai -” in the City field. Tidied.
Reading improvements apply to cards you scan from now on.
2.6.5 Sep 10
The notes you write on a card.
A line scribbled across a card — “met at the expo, wants a quote” — is now read as a note. The handwriting goes to the Notes field instead of being mixed into the name or the job title, and the printed card is read as usual. It works best on notes written at a slant or over more than one line.
Your library teaches the next scan.
Scan a card from a company you already have and cardlio uses what you corrected last time: a company name that came out garbled, a missing building or postcode. The review sheet says “From your library” so you can see exactly where a value came from, and a name printed on the card in front of you is never overruled.
Two reading fixes.
• A line like “Eml: (Rep)” is no longer mistaken for a person’s name
• A card scanned upside down is turned the right way up more reliably
Everything is still read on your Mac, and nothing is saved until you have looked at it. Improvements apply to cards you scan from now on.
2.6.4 Sep 9
A new card detector.
Cards come out cut exactly on their printed edge — no strip of table around them — on wood, on white paper, side by side or at an angle. It runs on your Mac and is trained for business cards, nothing else.
Faster everywhere.
Scrolling, search and opening a card were measured and the stalls removed, including a stall of several seconds after a scan while the detector loaded.
Privacy and security.
• Exported files are cleaned up automatically instead of lingering on the Mac
• Disconnecting Google now also revokes cardlio’s access at Google
• API keys and sign-in tokens are readable only while your Mac is unlocked
• A shared card link can no longer carry anything but a card (fixed on cardlio.app)
Improvements apply to cards you scan from now on.
2.6.2 Sep 7
New with Apple's Private Cloud Compute: while you review a scan, the address and company are now also read from the card's photo, so building, unit, city, postcode and country come out right much more often.
