Cloud Finder now releases the memory it uses for cloud identification as soon as a photo has been identified, which keeps your device more responsive afterwards. We also fixed a back button that could stop responding on recent versions of iOS, and the app is ready for iOS 27. If we ask you for a rating, it now comes straight from the standard system prompt, and only after you have used the app on a few different days.

The quiz is much deeper. It now draws on 456 sky photos instead of 31, so you can play far longer before a picture comes round again. You can also go past the ten main cloud types. Choose a level: Beginner stays on genera, Intermediate adds species such as Cumulus humilis, and Expert adds varieties such as undulatus. Thank you to the reader who asked for both.

Wires no longer fool the cloud identifier. A photo with powerlines across it used to come back as a contrail even when the cloud behind was something else entirely. Cloud Finder now tells a dark wire from a bright contrail and reads the cloud behind it instead. Full scientific names are here too. Every cloud shows its Latin name, and the detail page lists the species the genus is divided into, for example Cumulus humilis, Cumulus mediocris and Cumulus congestus. Thank you to the reader who asked for both.

Cloud identification is much more accurate. Wide sky photos are now read across the whole frame, not just the middle, so a tall cloud off to one side is no longer missed. Confidence percentages are properly calibrated. And you can answer a few quick questions about the sky, its shape, whether anything is falling, whether a ring circles the sun, which sharpens the match a lot.

Cloud Finder now speaks your language — the entire cloud guide, forecasts, and sky phenomena are available in 9 languages. Plus smarter identification that hedges on unusual skies instead of guessing.

A brand new look. A living sky now sits behind every screen, with drifting clouds and warm sunlight. The home screen gains drawn artwork and a progress ring showing how much of your cloud collection you have spotted.

The big sky update: • Sky Phenomena guide — 20 optical effects & rare formations, from sun dogs to noctilucent clouds • Real reference photos for every cloud type • Cloud Collection — tick off all 11 types, earn badges • Cloud Quiz — guess the cloud from real photos, build your streak • Live Sky Scan — point your camera at the sky for instant names • Cloud of the Day, with an optional daily reminder • Share your sightings as photo cards • Dark mode, journal notes, haptics, and accessibility improvements

CloudSpotter is now Cloud Finder — new name, same app. Minor fixes and improvements.
