Karl: Voice Meeting Notes Pro
Private, on-device transcripts
Free · In‑App Purchases
Karl replaces note-taking in meetings. Open it, tap record, and talk — the transcript streams in live, and when you stop, a structured summary (overview, key points, decisions, action items) writes itself. Everything happens on your device: nothing is uploaded, no account is created, works offline.
WHY KARL IS DIFFERENT
• Unlimited, free: no monthly transcription minutes, no per-meeting time limits, no import quotas. Transcription runs on your device.
• Truly private: audio never leaves your Mac or iPhone.
• Hears the whole call (Mac): Karl can capture system audio, so remote participants in Zoom, Teams, Meet or any app land in the transcript: even with headphones on.
• Speaks your languages: English, Spanish, French, German and more with live Spanish/English auto-detection, and summaries written in the meeting's own language.
• Import anything: drop in audio or old recordings, voice memos, downloaded meetings and get the same transcript and summary. Unlimited.
• Compact recordings: optional audio keeping at roughly 30 MB per hour, stored on your device.

more Keep using Karl while you record. Tap Hide, or swipe the recording screen down, and the recording keeps going while you search your meetings, read old notes or check off tasks. A bar at the bottom shows the time and has Stop & Save; tap it to go back to the recording.
1.7.21 4d ago
Skip silence. Turn on Skip silence under a meeting's player and Karl jumps over the long pauses as it plays, so you hear the talking, not the waiting. The recording itself stays untouched, and the button shows how much time it saves.
1.7.20 Oct 11
Import video too. Import Audio or Video now takes video files and turns their sound into a meeting with a transcript.
Export with timestamps. Share a transcript as subtitles (SRT or VTT) or as JSON with the time of every sentence.
New in Shortcuts: Transcribe Audio or Video. This action transcribes an audio or video file on your device and hands back a timestamped transcript, without adding a meeting.
Safer recording. If your device runs out of storage, Karl tells you right away instead of quietly losing audio, and Continue recording never drops the part you just recorded.
Faster with big libraries. Smoother playback, much lighter memory use with hundreds of meetings, and long recordings stay smooth to the end.
1.7.19 Oct 4
Pin folders to the top. Long-press a folder (right-click on Mac) and choose Pin to top to keep it above the others.
Fix a misheard word once and Karl fixes the rest. Correct a word in Edit Transcript and Karl finds the other places in the meeting where it was heard wrong, then asks whether to change them all. With Karl Pro it also remembers the word for future meetings.
1.7.18 Sep 28
Suggest folders: one tap files the meetings you left at the top level. Karl reads each one on this device and proposes a folder — you review the list, change any you like, then move them in one go (Karl Pro). Find the wand next to Ask Karl at the bottom of the sidebar, or select meetings and tap Suggest folders.
Copy on the transcript card puts the whole transcript on the clipboard, speaker names included.
1.7.16 Sep 24
Recent puts your five newest meetings at the top of the sidebar, and holding a dragged meeting or folder over a closed folder opens it.
Folders can wear a color: long-press a folder and pick one of six. My Terms, in Settings › Transcription, writes the words of your field your way, from your own list or a Medicine, Finance or Software & IT pack (Karl Pro).
Karl can ask to record when a meeting starts. Turn on “Suggest recording when a meeting starts” in Settings and a notification arrives as each calendar meeting with other people or a call link begins (Karl Pro).
Continue recording now sits at the bottom of every meeting, and a continued meeting marks where each new session starts, so its summary covers all of them.
1.7.15 Sep 16
A maintenance update. Nothing changes in how Karl works on iPhone and iPad.
1.7.13 Sep 12
Folders are easier to organize (Karl Pro):
• On the Mac, drag a folder onto another to nest it, onto its Merge chip to combine the two, or onto the Meetings header to move it back to the top level.
• On iPhone and iPad, long-press a folder for the new Move to and Merge into menus.
• Merging keeps every meeting, including those in Trash, and combines sub-folders that share a name.
• Every screen is now fully translated: about 40 labels that still appeared in English now show in your language.
• Enjoying Karl? You can now rate it right from Settings.
1.7.12 Sep 11
Fixes recording on Macs running macOS 26.7:
• Recording works again on Macs updated to macOS 26.7 — the system changed how it describes the built-in microphone, and a recording could end up with no audio in it.
• Live notes no longer switch off for the rest of a recording after a few failed attempts — they pause for a few minutes and try again.
• Playback of a long meeting starts without a stall and uses far less memory.
• The Tasks badge stays fast as your library grows.
1.7.10 Sep 10
Recordings keep their audio, and take up far less space:
• Long meetings no longer save without their audio.
• Recordings are stored exactly as captured instead of being re-encoded, so a two-hour meeting takes about a quarter of the space, with nothing lost.
• Tapping a phrase to jump to it stays accurate all the way to the end of a long meeting.
• A recovered recording rejoins the note it belongs to instead of arriving as a second copy.
• A long summary no longer fails outright because one stretch of the meeting gave the model trouble.
1.7.8 Sep 9
A new welcome, and motion that shows what Karl is doing:
• First launch now walks you through Karl in four short screens. Replay it any time from Settings > About.
• Tapping a meeting zooms into it, and new meetings land in the list with a soft arrival.
• Summaries and action items fade in as they arrive.
• Discarding a recording or deleting forever shreds it, so you can see it's gone.
• Importing a file shows progress as dusk fog rolling in.
Every animation respects Reduce Motion.
1.7.7 Sep 4
Fixes a freeze that could block recording:
• If Karl had crashed mid-recording and the leftover file could not be read, recovering it could hang the importer — and every new recording was refused with "Karl is importing an audio file". Unreadable files are now skipped, and the importer can no longer wait forever.
• Imports and language detection check that a file actually contains audio before transcribing it.
1.7.5 Aug 25
Stronger crash protection for your recordings:
• If Karl ever stops mid-recording — even a force quit or crash — you now get a notification within about a minute, and the recording (all but the last few moments) is recovered as a meeting next time Karl opens.
• Automatic language detection is more accurate: Karl now checks which language the opening words actually are, not just how confident each model sounds.
• Stop & Save is more robust: no duplicate meetings from a double tap, and a stuck transcriber can no longer freeze saving.
1.7.4 Aug 10
Karl 1.7.2: Tap a word to jump there — plus pin and resume.
TAP A WORD, HEAR THAT MOMENT
• Tap any word in a transcript and playback jumps right there
• Words light up in sync while the recording plays
PIN A MEETING TO THE TOP
• Keep important meetings at the top of your list — and at the top of their folder
• Swipe right on iPhone and iPad, or use the context menu anywhere
RESUME WHERE YOU LEFT OFF
• Karl now remembers where you stopped listening, for every recording
• Open the meeting again and playback picks up right there — no scrubbing back
1.7.2 Aug 3
Karl 1.7: Now on iPad.
KARL COMES TO iPAD
• The full app, on the big screen — folders beside your notes, nothing squeezed
• Record, transcribe, and summarize on-device, same as iPhone and Mac
• Your library syncs across iPhone, iPad, and Mac with Karl Pro
MOVE MEETINGS TOGETHER
• New Select mode: pick any number of meetings and move them into a folder in one go
• Or delete several at once — no more one-by-one
FIX THE TRANSCRIPT BY HAND
• New Edit button on the transcript — correct a name or a phrase the recognizer misheard
• Works per speaker when speakers are identified, and edits carry into search, export, and Ask Karl
1.7 Jul 23
Karl 1.6: Keep listening, anywhere.
CONTROL PLAYBACK FROM THE LOCK SCREEN
• Play a meeting, lock your phone — the title, position, and controls are right there
• Skip back or ahead 15 seconds, scrub, and change nothing about your flow
• Keeps playing in the background while you use other apps
A PLAYER THAT FOLLOWS YOU
• Scroll deep into a long summary or transcript and a compact player stays pinned on top
• Pause, seek, or change speed without scrolling back up
CONTINUE A RECORDING
• Reopen any saved meeting and record more — the new audio, transcript, summary, and tasks fold into the same note
YOUR NOTES, SAFER
• Karl now backs up your meeting notes daily (last 7 kept, on this device)
• New in Settings: Restore from Backup — brings missing meetings back, never deletes anything
• A call or Siri pauses playback and resumes it when you're done
1.6 Jul 22
Karl 1.5: Listen back faster.
PLAY AT YOUR SPEED
• Play a recording's audio at 1×, 1.25×, 1.5×, or 2× — replay a long meeting in half the time
• Tap the speed button on any meeting with saved audio; it works while playing, too
• Karl remembers your speed for next time
1.5 Jul 19
Karl 1.4: Karl now speaks 9 languages — and takes notes while you talk.
HABLA TU IDIOMA
• The whole app is now in Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese
• Summaries, live notes, titles, and exports follow each meeting's language — record in Spanish, get Spanish notes, even if your phone is in English
LIVE NOTES WHILE YOU RECORD
• Karl takes notes as the meeting unfolds — the first appears about two minutes in
• The final summary now lands in seconds after you stop, even for very long meetings
YOUR CALENDAR NAMES YOUR MEETINGS (optional)
• A meeting recorded during a calendar event takes its name, with attendees pre-filled — Karl only reads events on your device
ASK KARL, ACROSS EVERYTHING (Pro)
• Ask your whole library — "¿qué acordamos con el proveedor?", "what's still open from last week?" — and Karl names the meeting the answer came from
NEVER LOSE A WORD
• Weekly local backups of every transcript, summary, and task as Markdown (Settings › Library)
• If a meeting's language was detected wrong, Karl notices and re-transcribes it automatically
• Deleting or discarding anything now always asks first
FASTER AND SMOOTHER
• A mic level meter shows Karl hears you; capturing call audio now survives switching speakers or headphones mid-call
• Search, opening meetings, and Stop & Save are much faster on large libraries
• Every long-running AI task can now be cancelled
1.4 Jul 17
Karl 1.3: speaker identification works the moment you install.
SPEAKER ID, NOW FULLY OFFLINE (Pro)
• The voice models ship inside Karl — no download on first use, nothing fetched from the internet, works on a plane or a locked-down network
ONE PERSON, SPLIT IN TWO? JUST NAME THEM (Pro)
• Long or noisy calls sometimes split one voice into two speakers. Give both the same name and they fold into one — talk time, transcript, and voice profile all merge
FIXES
• Sidebar clicks land every time — selecting, dragging, and double-click rename no longer fight each other
• A speaker's listen button works right away, without pressing play first
1.3 Jul 16
• Ask any meeting "what did we decide?" or "what's still open?" — Karl
answers from the transcript, entirely on your device
NEW: TASKS & YOUR WEEK (Pro)
• Action items become checkboxes, gathered across all meetings in one list
• "Your Week": a Friday recap of meetings, people, decisions, and open tasks
• Send action items to Apple Reminders; export notes as Markdown
NEW: MEETING RADAR (Pro, Mac)
• Karl notices a Zoom/Teams/Webex/FaceTime call starting and offers to record
• When the call wraps up, one gentle nudge offers to stop and save
ALSO NEW
• Meeting titles name themselves: date – topic – who was there
• Rename meetings right in the sidebar with a double click
• "Start recording with Karl" and "Get my latest meeting" from Siri/Shortcuts
• Update every old meeting's titles and speakers in one tap (Settings)
• Switching between meetings is dramatically faster
1.2 Jul 13
NEW: SPEAKER IDENTIFICATION (Pro)
• Karl tells voices apart and labels the transcript with who said what
• Tap play on any speaker to hear their voice before naming them
• Name a speaker once and Karl recognizes their voice in future meetings
• Named speakers fill in the attendees automatically
• Runs entirely on your device — recordings never leave it
NEW: KARL PRO
• Folders & subfolders to organize meetings, Notion-style
• Trash with 30-day recovery — nothing is lost by accident
• Private iCloud sync between your Mac and iPhone
• Free stays free: unlimited recording, transcription, and summaries
ALSO NEW
• Records what your Mac plays (remote call participants in Teams/Zoom) even with headphones on — with a live "hearing this Mac" indicator
• Spanish ↔ English auto-detect: Karl listens to the first few seconds and picks the language automatically
• Re-transcribe any saved meeting in another language
• Smoother upgrade to sync: Karl now offers a one-click restart after you go Pro
1.1 Jul 10
Keep using Karl while you record. Tap Hide, or swipe the recording screen down, and the recording keeps going while you search your meetings, read old notes or check off tasks. A bar at the bottom shows the time and has Stop & Save; tap it to go back to the recording.
