A clearer fingering chart. The valves are now shown in 1-2-3 order, left to right, as on every printed horn chart — with a note saying so, since on the horn itself they sit 3-2-1. The thumb trigger reads T first (T23), and the valve diagrams are twice the size, on screen and in the shared PDF. Also: exercises now start at a gentler 120 BPM, and the scale list opens on the easiest keys first.

Chromatic and transposed exercises read far more clearly: accidentals now sit tight against the notes they belong to, the beats space evenly, and transposing no longer drops a page into seven sharps. The Chromatic Studies exercises have been respelled throughout, and a new play button on the alternate fingerings screen lets you hear any note.

New — two libraries, 187 exercises. Bach Chorales: 97 chorales with Bach's own harmony under the melody. Chromatic Studies: 90 sequences, neighbour figures and thirds, most with chords. Locked exercises now play while the unlock screen is open, so you can hear one before buying. The top bar is tidier, with more room for the song title.

Hear it before you buy it. Press play on a locked exercise and it now plays while the unlock screen is open — the whole song, at tempo — so you can listen before you decide. The song list is tidier too: a locked song shows a small padlock instead of a tier label.

New — a feedback lane above the staff. As you play, every note lands as a mark: green or red for right or wrong, above or below the centre line for early or late. The faster the tempo, the tighter the lane gets — so you can see your timing, not just your score. Press stop and the lane becomes your tempo history: how accurately you've played this exercise at every tempo you've tried, so you can see where you're ready to push and where you're not. Also new — print your own fingering chart. Settings exports every note, its name and its fingerings — including any alternates you've set — as a PDF to share or print. Fixed — the double horn's fingering chart has been rebuilt from published charts, correcting a number of wrong fingerings. Single Bb horns now support the thumb valve properly, and the thumb lights up only when the note actually calls for it. Scoring is more honest, too. Notes that need no valves at all no longer pad your accuracy, and a clean run now has to be in time as well as correct. In learner mode, the bar's chord sounds as its first note lights up.

New — the chord library, rebuilt. Every root now fits on one screen, with its chords beside it as panels that open to play, edit or choose. Tap a chip to narrow to a family — major, minor, 7th, diminished, sus. Switch root and the same chord stays open, so you can hear C minor against D minor back to back. The Edit Song screen now fits at a glance.

New — the song list now works in columns: two on a phone, three on iPad, so you see twice as much at a glance. One button opens and closes every category and takes you back to your current song. The free version now focuses on the seven major scales most players learn first — A, Bb, C, D, E, F and G. The full version unlocks all 700+ exercises.

New — a richer, more realistic horn: the tone has been reworked so it rings truer to the real thing. Learner Mode now names the note under the fingering hint, in a label twice the size, and no longer trips over open notes. You can hold the app in Light or Dark whatever the phone is set to. Chords now transpose with the key, and the editor keeps high notes clear of the chord buttons.

New — Learner Mode: a self-paced way to practice with no metronome. Each note sounds only when you finger it correctly, so you can learn at your own speed and still earn practice credit. Start it from Play, or tap the Favorites star to move through your favorites one after another. Your song libraries now appear in your language, plus a handful of visual refinements.

French Horn Trainer is now available in five more languages: Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, and Polish.

Transcribe by ear: play notes on your instrument and the app writes them to the staff. New dark mode. Bigger, clearer staff. Rate and share from Settings.
