PRIVATE BY DESIGN Your notes live on your iPhone — not on our servers. When you use Ask, or turn on cloud transcription, the text or audio for that request goes to one of our AI providers (currently Google Cloud, Groq, Together AI, DeepInfra, or Anthropic; a retry may go to another of them) to produce the result — through OpenRouter, Groq, and Anthropic. We only use providers that run under zero-data-retention terms or in safety retention mode: we tell you when, we don't store it, and they don't either — at most a copy kept only to fix errors, stop abuse, or review safety, and never to train AI. • Ask's answers can now quote your notes, and each quote is checked against the note it came from. • Ask answers "how many" questions by counting your notes, for example "3 notes mention “gym”." • In Ask, "remind me to…", "todo:" or "note to self:" saves a reminder, to-do or note, with Undo. • When an answer reads only some notes on a topic, "See all 70 notes" lists every one, newest first. • Ask's own lines now follow your question's language in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. • Search shows cleaner previews, returns up to 100 results, and now finds single Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters. • Search shows how many notes match, and when none match your words it shows the closest notes by meaning. • We've updated how Ask and cloud voice handle your data, so you'll be asked to agree once more before using them. Until then, notes, search, reminders and on-device voice keep working. • Search and Ask in other languages use a new All-languages pack (940 MB, in Settings ▸ Voice & AI). It needs an iPhone with 6 GB of memory or more; other iPhones use the built-in English search. • Dictated and Apple Watch notes are kept safe even when your iPhone is full or the app is closed while transcribing, and you stay signed in more reliably.
