Shotlet - Screenshot & Pin
Float on top, annotate, OCR
Only for Mac
Free
Mac
Snip a region, pin it above every window, annotate in place, and find it again by the text inside. A free menu bar tool for anyone who works with screenshots in view.
Shotlet keeps a screenshot on top of every window, so the thing you are looking at stays in view while you work. Press one shortcut, drag a region, and the capture is pinned to the screen right where it was.
PIN ANYTHING ON TOP
• Pins float above every app and stay put while you switch windows.
• Scroll to zoom, hold Command and scroll to fade, double-click to close.
• Hide or show every pin at once with a shortcut.
SNIP A REGION OR A WINDOW
• A full-screen overlay highlights the window under the pointer; scroll to step through overlapping windows.
• Drag a region, hold Shift for a square, release to pin.
• Snip straight to the clipboard when you do not need a pin.
ANNOTATE IN PLACE
• Rectangle, ellipse, line, arrow, pen, marker, mosaic, and text in six colors, with undo and redo.
• Shapes stay editable after you draw them.
• Copy or save the annotated image without leaving the pin.
PASTE ANYTHING AS A PIN
• Turn clipboard images, image files, text, and color values into floating pins.
FIND IT AGAIN
• Every snip lands in History. Search matches the text recognized inside the capture, on-device, in English, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese.
• Select several items like Finder and copy, pin, save, share, or delete them together.
COPY TEXT OUT OF A PICTURE
• Live Text turns any pin or History item into selectable text.
SYNCS THROUGH YOUR OWN iCLOUD
• History and annotations sync through the private iCloud database of your Apple ID; shortcuts and the keep-duration setting follow the same Apple ID through iCloud key-value storage. Without iCloud, Shotlet stays local and works the same.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
• No account, no telemetry, no ads, no third-party SDKs, no server. Shotlet links only Apple frameworks and runs in the App Sandbox.
REQUIREMENTS
• macOS 26.0 or later.
• Screen Recording permission for snip capture.
Every shortcut can be changed in Settings. Shotlet stays in the menu bar until you need it.

Tables, redaction, and translation in Text Selection, and Shotlet in Spotlight and Shortcuts.
• Tables & Lists: turn it on in Text Selection to outline recognized tables and lists, then copy one into Numbers, Excel, Notes, or a Markdown editor.
• Auto Redact: one click pixelates phone numbers, emails, Chinese resident ID numbers, and bank card numbers; one undo takes them all back.
• Translate: the translation is painted over the capture, where the original was and in its colors. Translation runs on your Mac.
• Snip, Paste, Open History, Find History Items, and more run from Spotlight and the Shortcuts app; Siri takes Snip, Snip & Copy, Paste, and Open History by name.
• Spotlight finds History captures by the text they show; turn it off in Settings › General.
• History search finds text added with the Text tool, and no longer finds text under a mosaic or cropped away.
• Live Text no longer reads text under a mosaic, and a photo pasted as an image file pins upright.
