Free
Review WaniKani and BunPro without typing. Say the answer and Kikoe fills it in and submits it. Say “next” or “wrong” to move through the queue.
Kikoe lets you do your WaniKani and BunPro reviews out loud.
Sign in to WaniKani or BunPro inside the app and start your reviews as usual. When a card comes up, say the answer. Readings are heard in Japanese and meanings in English. Kikoe types what you said into the answer box and submits it. If it can't match what it heard to an answer, it shows you the transcript and waits.
You can also control the review by voice, in English or Japanese:
• "next" or 次: go to the next card
• "wrong", "incorrect" or 間違い: mark the answer wrong
• "pause" or ストップ: mute the mic
• "help" or ヘルプ: show the list of commands
Settings:
• Turbo mode moves to the next card after a correct answer.
• Ippatsu mode submits a wrong answer instead of letting you try again.
• Corrections: if the recognizer keeps mishearing a word, tap the transcript and save what you meant. Kikoe uses it from then on.
• Strict kanji readings: a reading answer must be in kana, not the kanji itself.
• Noise reduction for noisy rooms.
• Keep the screen on during reviews.
• Turn off the app you don't use.
WaniKani needs a read-only API token so Kikoe can look up the current item. Kikoe can find it on WaniKani's token page for you, or you can paste one in. The token is stored in the Keychain on your device. BunPro doesn't need a token.
Kikoe doesn't collect any data or track you.
Kikoe isn't affiliated with WaniKani, Tofugu or BunPro. You need your own account with either service.

Kikoe is now its own app. Earlier versions were a Safari extension. This one opens WaniKani and BunPro inside the app and uses iOS speech recognition, so there's nothing to set up in Safari.
Also in this version:
• Kanji readings are strict by default: say the reading, not the kanji.
• Japanese transcripts show while you're still speaking on reading questions.
• Fixed answers being missed because of a trailing full stop.
• Better matching for BunPro particles, numbers and counters.
• Japanese voice commands are recognised more reliably.
