The name and subtitle now say what this actually is. Nothing inside the app has changed in this version. The App Store listing called it "Chat with Stoic philosophers", which is what every app in this corner of the store calls itself, and said nothing about the part that is different: seven voices that argue with each other and cite the passage they are arguing from.

The opening suggestions do more of the work. Tap one and it sends. You no longer have to notice the text landed in the box and press send yourself. The three suggestions are new, too. The old ones asked things every voice in the room agrees about, so you got three versions of one answer. These are situations the philosophers genuinely argue over, which is the part worth staying for.

Behind-the-scenes fixes. Nothing looks or works differently in this version.

Plainer language throughout. The home screen and your conversations now say what they are instead of leaning on jargon, and the subscription screen describes what the philosophers actually do rather than overselling it.

Two descriptions on the subscription screen were out of step with how the app actually behaves, so they have been corrected to say only what it does.

Smaller rooms, and a great deal of repair. The Stoa was answering a single question with six or seven replies at once. Two voices answer now — the others are still in the room, still arrive across a conversation, and any of them will speak if you ask for them by name. Stoics can also offer to remind you, once, after your first completed day of practice. You can change the time or turn it off in Settings. Accessibility: at large text sizes the first screen could not be scrolled to, and VoiceOver read all seven philosophers before ever naming the conversation. Both fixed, along with several colours that were too faint to read. On iPad, text no longer runs the full width of the screen. Also: a mis-credited quotation now names Sallust rather than Plutarch, the crisis line is tappable, and the subscription screen is clearer about where your trial stands.

Two small changes, both about being straight with you. Stoics now asks whether it has earned a rating — once, and only after you have kept a three-day practice streak. If you would rather answer on your own terms, there is a "Rate Stoics" row in Settings that is always there. The subscription screen now states exactly what it will charge and when. If a free trial does not apply to your account, the button no longer claims one.

A daily practice, for the days you actually show up. • Today's reading — one passage a day from the Stoa's canon, in rotation. • A reflection prompt tied to that reading. Save it and the day is complete. • Streaks that count reading and reflecting. Break one and it reads "begin again · best 12" — the number you earned doesn't vanish. • A daily reminder at an hour you choose. Tap it to land straight on today's reading. Off by default; turn it on in Settings → Daily reminder. • "Discuss this" on any reading opens a chat with the philosopher behind it, opener already written. Also fixed: the reading rotation no longer skips at the turn of the year.
