Maestro Snap

Snap your fingers, lights obey

Maestro Snap began with a very human problem: the light switch was all the way over there, and I was all the way over here. So I taught my Apple Watch to do the walking. Point your arm at a lamp, like you're showing it to a friend, and snap your fingers. The lamp obeys. No phone, no hub gymnastics, no shouting at a speaker that answers from the wrong room. Just you, casually rearranging the physical world with your fingers. Point. Snap. Magic. HOW THE MAGIC WORKS Your watch already knows which way your arm is pointing. Maestro learns where your things are: you "paint" a device by pointing at it for a few seconds while wandering a little, and your wrist taps along while it learns. From then on, a snap is a toggle. It keeps learning. Correct it once when it guesses wrong and that mistake gets rarer. Rooms change on their own as you walk around, so the lamp you meant is the lamp you get. Snapping awkward with your watch hand? Switch the trigger to Tap instead. Same magic, quieter. WHAT IT CONTROLS • Apple Home, out of the box, with no account and no sign-in • Home Assistant for the fully automated household • Lights, switches, plugs, fans, blinds, TVs and scenes • Accessories you grouped in the Home app answer as one, the way Home already shows them • Four hundred entities in Home Assistant? Put a "maestro" label on the handful you actually want and Maestro shows only those • Webhooks, so anything with a URL can answer a snap (Unlimited) THE PARTS I'M QUIETLY PROUD OF • Start a paint from your iPhone: tap a device there, then point at it on your wrist • Two floors? The watch learns your home's elevations, so the upstairs lamp stops stealing snaps from the one below it • It stays out of the way when you are not home • Runs entirely on your wrist, screen on or off • Never counts as a workout. Your rings are safe. • No account, no cloud, no data collection. Your home stays yours. • Needs a watch with a compass: Apple Watch Series 5 or later, any SE, any Ultra FREE VS UNLIMITED Free is the complete experience for one device in one room, which is a perfectly good way to feel like a wizard about one specific lamp. Nothing is crippled, it is just smaller. Maestro Unlimited is a one-time purchase that lifts the caps, adds webhooks, and lets you dress the thing up: five color schemes, eight snap effects and eight app icons, because if you are going to cast a spell it may as well look like one. Not long ago this kind of thing needed a movie set, a robe, and a special-effects budget. Now it takes a watch and one working finger snap. The future is deeply silly, and I am here for it.

Launch week keeps teaching. Mostly fixes, two favors for scene users, and a proper front door for help. - Support moved into the app: describe the problem, attach a model export with one tap, and send. No more exporting, AirDropping, and filling a web form to reach us. - Restoring your trained model to a new watch (or after a reinstall) now works properly on Apple Home: devices are re-matched by name, so your paint survives the move. - You can import a saved backup file on the phone, and a stale or empty backup can never overwrite a good one. - Scenes now toggle like the Home app: snap an active scene again and it turns off. If Maestro can't tell whether it's active, it just runs it, same as before. - Home Assistant automations can now be painted and snapped. A snap triggers the automation - it never disables it. - New scenes and devices you add in the Home app now show up on your watch right away, no relaunch needed. - The orange "often contested" note on your phone is now a button: one tap starts fresh paint from wherever you're standing. - Blinds that refuse a snap while still moving from the last one now say so, instead of showing a generic error. - A snap that times out now says "may still land" - because it sometimes does, and a retry could undo it. - Disconnecting your backend now asks first, since it erases your painted devices. One stray tap should never cost you your paint. - Home Assistant URLs that iOS refuses to connect to (plain-http hosts) now get a clear explanation instead of a dead end. - The first-snap confetti got real physics. You only see it once, so we made it count.
