Your computer should lock itself the moment you walk away. NearBye makes that happen — no clicking, no keyboard shortcut, no forgetting.
Pick your device (your phone, or any Bluetooth device). NearBye watches how near it is from your menu bar, and the moment you leave with it, it locks your device.
DISTANCE, IN HUMAN TERMS
Steps away, a room away, or far away — pick how far is too far. No dBm charts, no calibration dance. (The raw sliders are still there in Options if you want them.)
NEVER MID-SENTENCE
The activity guard holds the lock while you're typing, so a weak signal never locks the screen under your hands.
FAILS LOCKED, NOT OPEN
Bluetooth off? Connection dead? Phone never found? Every failure path locks the device.
HONEST ABOUT SECURITY
This is walk-away protection, not tamper-proofing:
• Between you leaving and the lock firing there is a grace window (~10–20 seconds, adjustable). It stops the office snoop, not a sprinting thief.
• The activity guard defers the lock while anyone is typing — turn it off if that's in your threat model.
• Spoofing "your phone is here" doesn't work against a bonded device: its identity is resolved from its rotating private address, which requires the pairing key.
LOCK-ONLY, BY DESIGN
Sandboxed App Store apps can't type your password, and pretending otherwise would be theater. Just unlock the device yourself how you always do,
PRIVATE BY DEFAULT
No accounts, no analytics, no network connections. Ever. Settings live on your device and nowhere else.

- This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
• The menu bar icon now says when something is wrong — Bluetooth switched off, or a lock that didn't take. Walking away is no longer flagged as a problem, because that's NearBye doing its job.
• Fixed: leaving a file picker or an alert open on screen could stop NearBye from locking your Mac.
