Surprise me now works however many movies you've rated. • Just signed in, or only rated a few? Your set is filled out with Founders Favorites until you've rated more, and each card says so. • A Top 10 only ever ranks your own ratings. • On a first launch, Surprise me waits for the films to load and starts on its own.

Steadier saving: tapping Save twice makes one album and one copy, and a canvas keeps the rows and columns you started with, even if you change them while it's being made.

New in Surprise Me: a Top 10 from your watchlist. With the latest How to Movie, Surprise Me can rank the ten films on your watchlist you're most likely to love, using How to Movie's predictions. It's labeled "Most Likely to Love," never a rating, and your ratings Top 10 is unchanged. Turn off Watchlists under Draw from in Settings if you'd rather not see it. New for the holidays: glass baubles and holly with a red bow, two new ornaments for any build. Snowed In now hangs baubles in front of its snow, Lights Up frames its poster wall in holly, and in December Surprise Me can add them too.

Surprise Me gets into the season. In October about one in three wallpapers comes with blood or cobwebs, then snow and lights in December, confetti at New Year and hearts before Valentine's Day. Turn off Seasonal touches in Settings if you'd rather not. Want only your best? Set a lowest rating for Surprise Me in Settings, like 8 and up. Your watchlist still comes through. Surprise Me now keeps an album for each screen: iPhone wallpapers go to Movie Canvas Surprise (iPhone) and iPad ones to Movie Canvas Surprise (iPad), so they never mix. Point your Photo Shuffle Lock Screen at the new one. The old album empties itself the next time a run replaces its set. A Top 10 now ranks only what it can: films that are out and have a rating, yours or TMDb's. Upcoming and unrated films go in only where you place them, and a Surprise Top 10 draws from your ratings alone.

Movie Canvas now runs on your Mac, sized to your actual screen, ultrawide included. Surprise Me mixes your films and your shows, ratings and watchlist alike. Settings > Surprise Me picks what it draws from. The wallpaper nudge can come every day, once a week or once a month. And if you turn on Save every run to Photos, each new set replaces the last one in your Movie Canvas Surprise album, so a Photo Shuffle Lock Screen always shows your newest wallpapers. And Settings now points to Movie Night, our movie trivia and soundtrack game.

Surprise Me, but for a whole Lock Screen. Choose how many a run makes: a handful, 10, 20 or 30. Then save the whole set to Photos in one tap. They all land in one album, Movie Canvas Surprise, so you can point a Photo Shuffle Lock Screen at it and get a different film wall every hour. Surprise Me also opens straight away now and fills in as each wallpaper is made, on whatever screen you were on. No more landing on the Builder wondering what to fill in. The morning nudge opens the same way. And Settings is now a tap away from the Gallery too, top right, where it is in every other app.

A reason to come back, and a way to make it yours. Movie Canvas can now nudge you once each morning and open straight into Surprise Me, so a fresh wallpaper is one tap away instead of something you have to remember. It is off until you turn it on, in Settings, at whatever time you like. If you would rather it happened without opening the app at all, the Shortcuts recipe is still there, right underneath. And you can write your own heading now. Top 10 no longer has to say My Top 10, and a One Sheet no longer has to use the film's own title. Type whatever you want and watch it land in the preview as you go. Also: if you only ever wanted Movie Canvas to add pictures to your library, you no longer have to grant it full access to save anything at all.

Top 10 is a podium now. Number one is featured at half the width with a giant gold numeral tucked behind it, the other nine stand in a wall with their numbers peeking out, and the ground is a real blur of your number one's poster. No titles: the posters already say it. And the ten are yours. A rating cannot choose ten favorites when you have rated hundreds of films the same, so there is a new Top 10 editor. It opens on the order the canvas draws, you drag it into the order you want, and you can browse the rest of your selection to swap films in. It tells you when a tie decided the cut. Your saved jobs are untouched. A job you never edit keeps drawing in rating order, exactly as before.

Movie Canvas is free now, with everything included. No in-app purchases and no subscription: every layout, the whole Surprise Me set, batch generation and Combined Runs, and nothing you make carries a watermark. Surprise Me. Tap once and Movie Canvas builds a handful of finished wallpapers with nothing to choose: a different layout, finish and cast every time, as often as you like. Four new layouts. One Sheet puts a single film full bleed with its title and year. Filmstrip runs your posters through the frames of 35mm film. Top 10 counts down your highest rated. Spine Shelf stands them up as cases on a shelf. Build from a franchise or a director, with no account and no library needed. Search any franchise for every film in it, or pick a director or an actor and build from their filmography. Seasonal designs, with ornaments drawn to your screen's size: blood in October, snow and strings of lights in December, hearts in February. A Shortcuts action, so an automation can put a fresh wallpaper on your lock screen every morning without opening the app. New sizes: Apple Watch faces, square and story sizes for sharing, and 300 dpi prints. Two finishes that are not dark. And everything you make is now kept. Wallpapers render at exactly your screen's resolution rather than three times it, so they are the size the app has always said they were.

Six Ready-made wallpapers. All-Timers, Epic Scale, Midnight Crimes, Neon Futures, Saturday Morning and The Rewatch Pile are finished designs, built from films worth the wall. Save one straight to Photos. They work offline, they carry no watermark, and they are free. Four new monitor sizes: 1080p, 34" ultrawide, Apple Studio Display 5K and Pro Display XDR. Build a desktop background at the size your screen actually is. Movie Canvas now follows how you are holding your device, so a wallpaper built on an iPad in landscape is composed for a landscape screen. Rotating after the app is already open now works properly, which it did not before. Shared wallpapers carry a link back to Movie Canvas, so whoever you send one to can make their own. And Movie Canvas asks how you are getting on right after a wallpaper saves. If you like what it made, a rating helps other people find it. Also fixed: the companion app rows no longer collide at the largest text sizes.
