Don't know an ingredient's price? Kalkuva can now estimate it for you, right in the dish. Example prices stay in your price list when you clear the example dishes. After your first cost price you will see a short offer for Kalkuva Pro.

Importing your menu from a cost sheet is now free up to 12 dishes. You can import a price list twice for free, to try it. We rewrote the texts in the app so they are shorter and clearer, in all ten languages. You can now reach support at hello@kalkuva.com.

The trash and Undo got a tidy-up. Undo steps are smaller and safer, and messages about the trash are clearer. New installs now see example prices in their own currency. New installs also pick up their country's allergen region and VAT rates automatically. Existing data stays untouched. The menu average now includes every dish that can be calculated and tells you which dishes weren't counted. When smart units ask for two weights, they now name both units.

New name: Kalkuva, formerly PlateCost. Everything you entered is still there, including your account. Cost sheet import now asks you when it's unsure, for example 'which one counts in your cost?' if an ingredient has different prices. With 'Use all sheet prices' you settle them all at once. A chef asked for it: you can now choose your own currency in Settings › Currency. Nothing gets converted. Sort your Ingredients, for example 'Missing price first'.

New in 1.8: paste or photograph a recipe into an open dish or prep — PlateCost adds the ingredient lines with their cost. A sub-recipe, like a sauce, can be made into its own prep right away. You see the cost up front: free gives you 5 AI imports, shared between cost sheets and recipes. Quantities are now saved just as safely as prices: nothing changes silently from a stray keystroke, and the screen keeps calculating as you type. On a laptop, Sous now sits next to your cost sheet instead of over it. An example dish you've changed is now simply yours: the 'Example' label disappears, and cleaning up leaves it alone. Also: undoing an ingredient swap now only reverts the swap, not your other changes.

New in 1.7.1: creating an account now works right away — you're signed in immediately, no confirmation email needed. Messages when signing in or registering are in your own language and tell you what to do. New in 1.7: a clear start screen — begin your first dish in two taps. On a laptop or larger screen, your dish is now a real cost sheet with every column side by side, and you can work it with your keyboard. Prices and loss percentages are saved safely: nothing changes silently from a stray keystroke, and you'll see it if you overwrite a price from a price list. Sous now uses the full screen on your phone; on a larger screen, it sits right next to your dish. Typing "3" on a line measured in grams is now simply 3 grams.

New in 1.6.3: your messages to Sous are legible again in dark mode. Tap an ingredient's name in a dish to swap it for another right away. Name and price of an ingredient can now be changed directly in the dish itself — the change applies across all your dishes and in your ingredient list.

New in 1.6.2: Sous is now a real conversation — ask a follow-up after any answer, and Sous asks back when it needs more to go on. Starting a new conversation keeps your history safely stored, it's just a clean break. Sous also opens with starter questions tailored to your own menu. Rate Sous's answers with a thumbs up or down, and use "Anything missing? Tell Sous" whenever something's missing. Settings now has a proper Appearance choice: System, Light, or Dark. Warnings are easier to read — we improved the contrast. Confirming a loss percentage while cooking now tells you straight away how many dishes that applies to. An ingredient still linked inside another dish is no longer quietly dropped when you clean up an import. If your device's storage is full, PlateCost now tells you honestly instead of failing silently. Our privacy policy now covers the 30-day Trash. Plus fixes under the hood: rounding, and how costs are shared with the dish that receives them.

New in 1.6.1: deleting a dish is never instantly final anymore — it moves to the trash and stays recoverable for 30 days, with undo available right after you delete it. Starting a new dish now begins with “Choose a category” — your last-used category is already selected, or you add a new one on the spot. An empty dish list now shows two clear ways to get started, plus keyboard shortcuts — Cmd/Ctrl+N, Enter, and Tab — to build a dish faster without reaching for the mouse. Outside the Netherlands, the old pond and ons units now simply show as grams, so nobody has to guess. Every piece of text, in all 10 languages, has been re-checked by a native-speaking cook. And on iPhone, the screen no longer gets stuck zoomed in when you type a quantity. Also: just one trial now — 14 days of Pro on the yearly plan through the App Store, no separate account trial anymore.

New in 1.6: meet the cost-price expert, right inside PlateCost. Ask about your margins, your foodcost percentage, or which VAT rules apply where you cook — it explains in plain language and points you to the right screen. Your first 10 questions are free. Also: small refinements and improved accessibility throughout.

PlateCost Pro now comes monthly too — try it, switch to Yearly, or cancel, whenever suits you. Yearly stays the better deal (4 months free), but now you can start small.
