Coptic Leader
Sunday School Ministry Hub
Only for iPhone
Free · Designed for iPhone. Not verified for macOS.
A place for Sunday School coordinators and servants to run their whole ministry — lessons, attendance, Friday nights, rides and outreach.
Coptic Leader was designed and written inside the Sunday School Ministry at St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church of Washington, DC — by the people who were unhappily running it on spreadsheets, group chats and memory. This app replaces all three.
Coordinators see the whole ministry. Servants see their classes and kids. Nothing falls through the cracks.
LESSONS
Assign each Sunday to a servant. They submit a plan and slides; the coordinator reviews, approves or asks for changes — with the whole exchange kept on the lesson. Guest speaker coming? Record that they've confirmed and know the topic. Party or event instead? Name an organizer and collect a plan and location the same way.
KIDS
Class rosters with allergies pinned at the top, parent contacts, birthdays, photo permissions and notes — and a full history of their attendance and outreach.
ATTENDANCE
Easily record servant and kids' attendance for Sunday school, Friday night activities, events and servants' meetings. Servants also receive notifications to remind them to take attendance.
OUTREACH
Log every call, text and in-person visit. See at a glance which children haven't been reached, and which servants are keeping up with their visits, month by month.
RIDES
Plot where the children live on a map, build efficient driving routes, and see instantly which kids still have no ride. Coordinators keep tabs on all servants picking up kids and their driving routes.
CHAT
Class threads, ministry-wide announcements, polls, photos and files — so the ministry stops living in iMessage, WhatsApp and GroupMe.
EVENTS AND MEETINGS
RSVPs, task lists, reminders and attendance for everything from a retreat to a field day.
FOR COORDINATORS
One dashboard for approvals, unassigned Sundays, missing lesson plans and gaps in coverage — with a nudge you can send in one tap.
Click the demo mode on the sign in page to test and see the app in action. Want to enroll your church Sunday School ministry? Contact copticleader@stmarkdc.org for more information on onboarding and pricing.

- Bible study: see every lesson on its night, tap one to assign a writer, and find Bible studies on the calendar
- Tapping a Bible study on Home, or a Friday night in a chat, opens that exact entry

- Send a calendar entry as an invite
- Faster loading, and pull-to-refresh on every screen
- Performance, stability and security improvements

New in 1.15:
- Email yourself an upload link: add your lesson notes and slides from your computer, then submit right from there
- Lessons are easier to read: year theme and unit at the top, then the scene setter, key points and "In the Liturgy" each under its own heading
- "Submit Lesson for Review" now sits right under your uploads, with a reminder that files aren't sent until you submit
- Every file and link you add now shows in the lesson's history with the time
- Coordinators: edit a lesson's scene setter, key points and "In the Liturgy" directly
- Coordinators: fill lesson speakers in turn, by last name, first name or random, for each class or the whole ministry, and leave anyone out of the rotation
- Performance, stability and security improvements

Voice notes: tap the mic in any chat to record, and play notes right in the conversation
Send a recording from Voice Memos, or attach any audio file, as a voice note
Voice notes are saved on your phone after the first listen, so they play without a connection
A fresh new look with our new app icon and logo
Friday nights: every servant can now take attendance, and can ask a coordinator to reopen it after it closes
Kids: when someone asks to join a child you already have, is added, or is turned down, you'll get a notice to acknowledge — and coordinators can see who has seen it
Lessons: fixed an issue where the Lessons screen could keep refreshing in the background
Performance, stability and privacy improvements

Programmes are named the way your ministry names them. A choir programme reads "Choir" rather than "FNA" throughout the app — and a class that does not take part no longer sees it at all.
Bible study now has attendance. Open the night from the Attendance tab and mark who came; when a night is split into bands, only that band's children are listed.
Servants given bible study access can schedule bible study lessons themselves, not only read them.
Ask for a child to be archived when they are no longer in the ministry. You give a reason, a coordinator approves it, and archived children sit in a collapsed "Archived" section at the bottom of the Kids tab.
Assign or change a lesson's speaker in one tap, from the lesson list or from the lesson itself — and anyone a coordinator has given lesson scheduling to can do it, not only class admins.
Any member of a group chat can rename it and add or remove people, rather than only whoever created it.
Priests and ministry leaders are shown by their own title in profiles and chats.
Shadowers can read every lesson in the ministry, and have their own attendance list each Sunday instead of being tied to a class.
Attendance marks now stay on screen if a sync does not go through, so you can retry without entering them again.
Chat fixes: holding a photo opens the reaction menu straight away, the screen no longer jumps while you are editing a message, and the box clears properly after you send.
1.11 Sep 20
Repeating events and meetings can now be edited after you create them — just this occurrence, or the whole series, the way Outlook and Google Calendar work.
Schedule a servants' meeting every 2, 3 or 4 weeks, not only weekly, fortnightly or monthly. And a meeting now lands on the day you picked — choosing Thursday no longer files it under Friday.
Bible study can be run for the whole ministry, not only class by class, and a night can be split into boys and girls: two lessons on one evening, each with its own writer. The class picker fills in reliably now.
The Lessons tab says which program the work is on, so a red count is attributed to Sunday lessons or to bible study rather than leaving you to guess, and a servant can see the due date on the lesson itself and on their home screen.
Lessons and Friday nights now say who they are actually for. A lesson scheduled for one class no longer reads as a whole-ministry lesson on the coordinator home screen or the Lessons tab, and a Friday night run for the whole ministry covers every class — so the other classes stop appearing as separate rows and stop being flagged as gaps.
Ministry Leaders read as "Ministry Leader" throughout — in the profile, in chats, and on servant lists — rather than as a coordinator.
Add an event to Google Calendar as well as Apple Calendar.
Holding down a photo, a video or a link in a chat now opens the same menu as holding down a message.

Mute a chat right from the list. Swipe or long-press any conversation to silence its notifications; muted rooms keep a bell icon and still count in the in-app badge, so nothing goes missing. Coordinators and ministry leaders can mute class and whole-ministry rooms too. Someone @mentioning you by name still comes through.
Kids: the class picker stays on screen when a class has no children yet, so you can switch straight back.
Lesson scheduling now offers only the classes you can actually schedule for, and shows what is already booked in each.
Your own name and email are now read-only in your profile; a coordinator updates them for you.
Chat list is ordered by ministry and then by class.
1.9 Sep 15
• Servant profiles keep a notes thread — each note timestamped and signed by whoever wrote it.
• A resources shelf on Lessons for curriculums, lesson plans and books, in folders your coordinator names.
• Coordinators can grant lesson scheduling or servants'-meeting access without making someone a coordinator.
• Ministry leaders can move between ministries to see their lessons, children, calendars and chats.
• Any servant can schedule a Friday night, for one class or the whole ministry.
• Children's birthdays on the calendar, and a holding area for children not yet placed in a class.
• Tap your own chat reaction to change or remove it.
• Lesson attachments up to 100 MB.
• Many fixes keeping each ministry's data to itself.
1.8 Sep 12
Additional ministries are now fully supported. Each ministry has its own classes, chats, calendar, rosters and rules, so nothing crosses over.
Also new:
• Bible study lessons — schedule, write and approve them alongside Sunday lessons, with their own due dates.
• Serve more than one class — switch between your classes right from Kids, Lessons and Friday nights.
• Your tabs now match what you're responsible for. Coordinators can set each servant's access.
• Works without service — attendance, outreach logs, RSVPs and poll votes save on your phone and sync when you're back online. Photos are cached too.
• Outreach plans — coordinators can set an expectation per servant by week, month or year, and everyone sees the same count.
• Friday nights can be scheduled for one class, several classes, or the whole ministry.
• Edit or remove a time-off entry after you've added it.
• Coordinators can now set the Sunday school year start date, lesson and plan due dates, and Friday night scope from Admin tools.
• Address fields autocomplete as you type.
Plus fixes to attendance percentages, lesson history, chat photos, reaction lists and notifications.
1.6 Sep 3
• Messages send even on bad service. Your message appears right away and keeps retrying in the background, and the text no longer stays behind in the box after it sends.
• Chats open at the first message you haven't read, with a "New messages" line above it — no more scrolling back to work out where you left off.
• Tapping a notification now opens the actual thing — the lesson, the kid, the poll, the meeting — instead of just opening the app.
• Your attendance, on your own profile. See your Sunday, FNA, events and servants' meetings percentages, and tap any of them for the full list.
• Fairer numbers. Percentages now count only the period you've been serving, so joining midway through the year no longer marks you down for meetings held before you arrived.
• Guest speaker Sundays. Record that a guest has confirmed and knows their topic, and the Sunday is settled.
• Party and event Sundays. Choose an organizer and turn in an event plan and location instead of a lesson.
• PowerPoint, Word and Excel files now open inside the app.
Also in this update:
• Coordinators see open ministry polls on Home and can vote there.
• Polls are grouped by grade and show when they were posted.
• A kid's age comes from their birthday, and allergies sit at the top.
• Attach Keynote and Pages files to a lesson.
• Slow scrolling no longer opens things by accident.
1.5 Aug 15
Attendance for events is here:
• Every event on the ministry calendar now has an Attendance card — mark the kids and the servants who actually came, right from the event.
• Search a long roster by name, mark everyone absent in one tap, then Save.
• Thirty minutes before an event starts, a "Take attendance" banner appears on your home screen and a reminder notification goes out. Tap either one to land straight on the roster.
• Event and Friday activity attendance now stay open for 48 hours after the end time, so you can finish marking the next day.
• If a save is refused, the app now tells you why instead of quietly looking saved. Your marks stay on screen so you can try again.
Also in this update:
• Class admins can name or swap a Sunday's speaker any time up through that Sunday — for when a servant calls in sick that morning.
• Resubmitting a lesson is no longer branded late. Only the first submission is judged on time.
• Coordinators can leave a comment on a lesson without having to approve it or request changes.
• Add to Apple Calendar now works for events, Friday activities, and servants' meetings.
• "Lesson assigned to you," lesson comments, and event proposal notifications now arrive reliably.
1.4 Jul 30
Chats got a big upgrade in this release:
• Hold any message for the new focus view — react with emojis, reply, copy, edit, or delete from one place.
• Swipe right to reply, iMessage-style: the conversation blurs and the message you're answering stays front and center.
• Long-press a chat in the list to peek at the conversation, pin it to the top, or mark it unread.
• A new + button in the composer: snap a photo with the camera, attach from your library, share documents, or start a poll.
• Long messages always show in full, with See More for the really long ones. 1–3 emoji messages now display big.
Also in this update:
• Class admins can assign open Sundays right from Lessons.
• Adding a kid now shows a Pending tag while your coordinator approves it.
• Split Friday activities can claim a room for each group, with the church address filled in automatically.
• Better "last seen" accuracy, live poll results in chats, and lots of polish.
1.3 Jul 25
• Set your profile photo from your photo library
• Scheduling a Friday Night Activity in the Gym or Social Hall now auto-fills the church address
• Event proposals now appear for approval inside the app
• Any servant can add a child, with the full set of fields
• New per-servant filters on the kids roster, plus an "Unassigned" filter
• Attendance now filters as you type
• Marking yourself absent automatically declines your FNAs and flags your lessons for coverage
• Preset rooms are available wherever you schedule an FNA
• Large lesson slide decks now upload reliably
• Stability and performance improvements
1.2 Jul 20
• Search the whole calendar — every Sunday school, FNA, event, meeting, and birthday in one place
• Chats now work offline — every thread stays readable without a connection
• Redesigned Servants directory — a clean rolodex with one-tap call and text, and this month's outreach at a glance
• Streamlined servant profiles — outreach trail, tappable attendance details, and a full activity feed
• Links in chats show rich previews with pictures, like Messages
• Schedule an FNA in a preset church room with live availability, or any place with address suggestions
• Rides: set out from wherever you are with the new "My location" pick
• Lesson pages merge feedback and history into one conversation
• Polls organized into collapsible Ministry-wide and Grade sections
• Plus polish throughout: a calmer calendar with a floating Today button, simpler attendance counts, accurate "last seen" times, and no more cut-off names
