OptionsKing: Options Trading
Learn, Paper Trade, Calculator
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Learn options with short lessons and quizzes. Practice covered calls, puts and spreads with virtual cash, then review what happened to each paper trade.
Learn options trading, then practice with virtual money. OptionsKing combines short lessons, quizzes and an options paper trading simulator with a trade checker for covered calls, cash-secured puts and credit spreads.
LEARN OPTIONS STEP BY STEP
Start with your first options contract and work through 107 lessons in 11 series. Study calls and puts, strike prices, expiration, assignment, premium, collateral and the Greeks. Worked examples explain the arithmetic. Each lesson ends with five questions, and missed questions return for review.
Follow a learning path, continue where you left off and track completed lessons in Progress. Bundled lessons remain readable without an internet connection.
PAPER TRADE WHAT YOU LEARN
Practice with virtual cash. Explore a strategy, record what you expect to happen and follow the paper position through its outcome. Review the result and use the replay to explore a different stock price. Lesson practice missions connect the explanation to a paper trade.
Paper trading is simulated practice. No real money is deposited or traded. Simulated outcomes do not predict live fills or investment results.
CHECK A TRADE BEFORE YOU PLACE IT
Type the stock price, strike and premium your broker shows for a covered call, a cash-secured put, or a put or call credit spread. Compare up to three strikes at once.
Each check gets a deterministic confidence score from 0 to 100, based only on the numbers you enter, and plain answers: what you'd keep, what the strike means, what assignment costs and what could go wrong if the stock moves against you. Enter an earnings date before expiration and the trade is ruled out. Tap unfamiliar terms for an explanation.
There is no minimum score: a weak trade still gets a number. A confidence score is not a probability of profit or a promise that a trade will succeed.
RUN THE NUMBERS
The Calculators tab works out a covered call, a cash-secured put, the wheel, a roll, break-even, annualized return or position size, with a profit and loss chart.
FOLLOW YOUR PRACTICE
Progress brings together lessons completed, reviews due and paper trades practiced. Sign in to sync your saved progress and settings across devices. An optional daily reminder keeps your lessons going.
AVAILABLE ON IPHONE AND IPAD
OptionsKing is free to use. The current trading mode is Paper. It does not connect to a brokerage account or place, modify or cancel real orders. It shows no market quotes: you bring the prices from your broker, and checking a trade needs an internet connection.
OptionsKing is an educational and informational tool, not a financial adviser or broker. Options trading carries substantial risk of loss, including assignment and losses larger than the premium received. It is not suitable for every investor. Confirm prices and contract terms with your broker before making a real trade.

New Calculators tab: run the numbers on a covered call, a cash-secured put, the wheel, a roll, break-even, annualized return or position size before you place a trade. The answer updates as you type, with a profit and loss chart.
Settings now opens from the gear at the top right of every screen.

Learn now includes 107 rewritten lessons with clear explanations and fictional worked examples.
Follow a complete path from basics to advanced options topics, with 535 practice questions based on what each lesson teaches.
Review explanations, jump back to the relevant passage, and retry missed questions immediately.
Updated payoff diagrams, interactive examples, and progress tracking.

Add OptionsKing to your Home Screen. The new widget shows your next lesson, any review questions due, and when your next paper trade expires. With App lock on, your trades stay off it.
Touch and hold the app icon to jump straight to your next lesson, Top Options, your trades or Progress. You can also ask Siri, for example "Continue my lesson in OptionsKing", or find the same shortcuts in Spotlight and the Shortcuts app.
On iPad, OptionsKing now turns sideways, with the tabs in a sidebar, and works in Split View and Slide Over.
You'll feel a light tap when you answer a lesson question, pass a unit or place a paper trade.
Learning reminders now follow your usual study time. With notifications allowed, you get a daily nudge to pick up a lesson or review questions. A day you've already studied gets no reminder, and they come less often while you're away. Turn them off in Settings.
Choose in Settings whether to share anonymous usage. It counts which parts of the app get used and can include screen recordings where every word, number and typed value is hidden on your phone before anything is sent. Names, trade details and answers are never collected.

Make a prediction before you place a paper trade. Will it expire, or get assigned? Add a reason if you want one. When the trade ends, its review opens with how your guess did, and Progress keeps count of your predictions over time.
Finished a lesson? Put it to work opens Top Options and marks the trades that use what you just learned.
The first time you open a lesson, it asks you to guess what happens before it shows you the example.
New to the app? Setup is shorter now. Say whether you came to learn or to practice, and the app opens on Learn or Practice to match. You can switch it in Settings under Open the app on. Signing in comes last, and you can skip it.
You can replay a finished trade at a different price. Progress also suggests your next step and lets you go back over the questions you missed.

Learn has been rewritten to help you understand and apply options concepts.
All 107 lessons now include clear learning goals, worked examples, and a question with an explanation you can reveal to check your understanding.
Updated lesson quizzes, glossary definitions, paper-trading explanations, and interactive examples connect the ideas to practical decisions and their risks.
Fixed video playback in Learn on iOS.

NEW
Home is now called Practice, and Income is now called Progress.
Progress now shows what you have learned, beside your income: lessons done, review questions due, how your answers are going, and your paper trades.
Every lesson check now has five questions. The last two ask you to use the lesson on a new example, so you find out whether it really clicked.
Tap Learn while you are already in Learn and it takes you back to the start.
FIXED
Corrected worked examples in several lessons.

Tap the daily pick notification and that pick opens on its own screen, right away. No more waiting for Home to load first.
A trade's confidence score is now the same for everyone. Your cash and shares no longer move it, so a pick scores the same in Paper and in Live.
Ordering more contracts than the market shows at the bid? The Place screen now tells you the order may only partly fill at your price.

NEW
Learn is now a course. A path takes you from what an option is to spreads, one short unit at a time, and Continue picks up where you stopped reading.
Every lesson ends with a three-question check that explains each answer. Questions come back for a quick review a few days later, then less often as they stick. Progress shows how far you've got. No streaks, no points.
Your progress follows your account. Signed in, it's on every device. Signed out, it stays on your phone and joins your account the first time you sign in.
Practice missions ask you to try what a unit taught with a paper trade. When a paper trade expires, "What happened" walks through how it ended, in your own numbers.
One learning reminder a week, Sunday evening, with your next lesson or the questions due for review. Turn it off in Settings.
Notifications now open what they're about. Tap the note about trades that settled and you land on what happened to them. And the evening before an option you sold expires close to its strike, you'll get a heads-up.

Filters now go looking for trades that fit them. Set a range for strike, return, keep chance or fill chance, close the sheet, and we search your whole watchlist for options inside it, instead of trimming the list you already had.
Top Options shows the best trade of each kind for every stock: one covered call, one cash-secured put, one of each spread. No more three puts on the same stock a strike apart, and the list is no longer cut off at a set number.
Three new guides in Learn: options strategies for small accounts, what nobody tells you about selling options, and options trading psychology.

Your filters stay put. Narrow the Top Options list by strike, ROI, APR, keep chance or fill chance, and it stays narrowed after a refresh, after you close the app, and on your other phone. It used to snap back to wide open every time the list reloaded.
Every filter you've set is now named above the list, so a short list is never a mystery. Tap one to change it, tap the x to clear just that one, or reset them all. The filter sheet has its own Reset filters button.
A filter you set on Monday keeps meaning what you meant. Ask for trades paying 2% or more and Tuesday's better payers still come through, instead of being pinned to Monday's numbers.
IMPROVED
Show up to 50 options at a time. The old limit was 20.

NEW
Every Top Option now shows its confidence score, 0 to 100, and the whole card is tinted green, amber or red, so you can scan the list without reading it. The list runs highest score first.
Want the trades that also pay well? A new ROI filter in the filter sheet keeps only the return you want, still sorted by confidence.
The daily picks notification has its own On/Off switch in Settings.
IMPROVED
The Place sheet stays above the keyboard, says in one line what this order ties up, and drops the broker field in Paper mode.
Spread cards show what the trade pays over its own length instead of a yearly rate that ran into four digits.

The Learn tab opens on iPhone now. In 1.0.19 it showed "Guides didn't load" instead of the guides, because of a bug in how the app read its own bundled files. The guides were on your phone the whole time. Now the app can open them.
If you have not tried it yet: Learn sits next to Home and holds 104 guides in 11 series, from covered calls and cash-secured puts to the Greeks and assignment, with the glossary at the top. Every guide opens inside the app and works with no signal.

1.0.20 Sep 15
NEW
A Learn tab. It sits next to Home and holds all 104 guides from optionsking.app, sorted into 11 series: covered calls, cash-secured puts, the wheel, the Greeks, volatility, assignment, taxes and the rest. The glossary is at the top.
Every guide opens inside the app. No browser, no web page to find your way back from. When a guide points at another one, tap it and that one opens too, and Back walks you out the way you came in, down to the spot you were reading.
The guides ship with the app, so they work with no signal.
CHANGED
"Read the full guide" under a glossary term opens the guide in the Learn tab instead of a browser.

Sliders for the numbers a card actually prints. Open the filter sheet and you can narrow the list by APR, by the odds of keeping the premium, and by the odds of getting filled. They work on the options already on screen. Nothing rescans, nothing is saved, and the list repaints as you drag.
Set two of them far enough apart that no pick can satisfy both and the app now says so properly. It tells you how many options the scan did find, so you know the scan worked and the filters are what is hiding them, and it resets every band in one tap.
CHANGED
The yearly percentage on a card is called APR now, because that is what it is. It scales one contract's premium out to a year. It does not compound and it is not a prediction. Under it sits the number that keeps it honest: what the trade returns over its own length, with the length attached, like 0.4% in 7d. A seven day trade with a big APR is still a seven day trade.
Raising "Show top N options" is instant. It used to rescan your whole watchlist to show you a longer version of a list the app was already holding.
Iron condor cards lost the green stripe down the left edge. It read as a status when all it did was name the strategy the title already names. Top Options lost the x1 chip, since every quoted pick is one contract and the order line says so. Placed keeps its count, where the number is real.

NEW
The morning digest no longer needs an account. Stay signed out and your phone can still get the 9am pick, drawn from the wider market instead of a watchlist. Turn it on under Settings, in the new Daily picks notification row.
That is the honest version of it. A signed-out session keeps your settings on the device and uploads nothing, so there is no watchlist on our side to pick from. Nothing about that changed here, and nothing about it is going to.
FIXED
The app used to ask permission to send you notifications the second it opened, before you had read a single screen. It doesn't any more. You decide when, and Settings is where you do it.
Signing out now stops the notifications. It used to leave the phone attached to the account you just left, so it kept getting that account's picks every morning. The device is dropped the moment you sign out.

1.0.17 Sep 8
NEW
Drag a strike band over your picks. Two thumbs on a rail above Top Options, and the list narrows to the strikes between them. No rescan, no new quotes, nothing saved to your settings. It's a view over the rows already in front of you, so it keeps up with your thumb.
The rail is spaced by the strikes that actually exist, not by dollars. A thin chain gets a coarse rail. A dense one gets a fine one.
CHANGED
The score floor is gone. Nothing gets held back for scoring badly any more.
Every candidate is scored, ranked, and handed to you in order, best first. So you will see setups the old build hid from you. On a thin day the top pick can be a weak trade. Read the score on the card before you act on it, because that number is doing the work the floor used to do.

1.0.16 Sep 6
New cards UI for the top options and orders placed.
1.0.15 Sep 5
Setup used to hand you an empty box and ask you to remember tickers. Not anymore.
BUILD A WATCHLIST IN ONE TAP
Tap once and OptionsKing fills your list with the largest, most liquid names in the S&P 500. They are pulled live, not baked into the app, and anything already on your list is skipped. Type your own if you prefer. "the chip maker" still works.
TWENTY NAMES, NOT FIVE
The minimum moved from 5 tickers to 20, and that is the whole point. Nothing reaches your screen unless it clears the safety bar, and on any given day most names do not clear. Five names meant a lot of mornings staring at nothing. Twenty gives the scanner enough to work with, so there is usually something worth selling when you open the app.
Already set up? The same one-tap fill lives in your watchlist editor in Settings.
What has not changed: no pick gets past the safety bar just because we suggested the ticker. Every name still has to earn its way onto the screen.

* App lock. Turn it on in Settings and OptionsKing sits behind Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode until you unlock it. Off by default, and turning it off deletes the key rather than remembering a "no".
* Scanning your watchlist is much faster. The whole list goes out in one request now instead of one per ticker.
* Place is blocked when your stated net worth cannot back the trade, and you fix the shortfall right there in the sheet. Short on shares or short on cash, you add it without leaving for Settings first.
* Top Options shows the quality score beside the confidence score on every pick, the same pair the Placed tab has been showing all along.
* Filters sit one tap from the picks they filter, and the rolling window is in Home's filter sheet too.
* Placing an order keeps you on Top Options instead of bouncing you somewhere else.
* Every glossary term opens its full guide on optionsking.app. All 30 of them.
* Assignments now settle at that day's closing price instead of the strike, so net worth reflects what the shares were actually worth when they changed hands.
The old behaviour could credit cash for shares it never delivered.
* Sharper volatility read when scoring a contract. The check now runs over the option's own horizon instead of a fixed window.
