The app is now completely free. Reading out loud no longer costs anything, for anyone. Point at your paper, tap "Listen", that's all. Plus a few internal fixes.

The app now reads documents written in another language. When the text is not in English, a button offers to read it in English. The translation happens on your phone, with no connection and without anything being sent anywhere. You can go back to the original text at any time. Useful for a medicine leaflet bought abroad, an instruction manual, or a restaurant menu on holiday.

The app is better at reading difficult text. When it finds nothing on the first try, it now takes a second, closer look before giving up. Small print, leaflets in another language and dosage tables are read correctly more often on the first attempt.

Easy Magnifier now speaks Spanish, alongside English, French and German: the buttons, the voices and the help pages. Plus a few internal fixes.

The screen that shows the price has been simplified: the amount now appears without having to scroll. Plus a few internal fixes, including a bug that stopped the app from ever asking you to leave a review.

Reading out loud is now paid, and we would rather say so plainly than hide it behind a trial. • The magnifier does not change: magnifying, lighting and freezing stay free, forever • Before you pay, the app shows you the first words it read on your own document. You see that it works, on your paper, not in an advert • If it finds no text at all, we ask you for nothing

The screen that offers reading out loud still said that paying was about keeping the magnifier. That has not been true since the magnifier became free, and it was written in large type. Fixed. It now says what you actually pay for, and nothing else. The magnifier stays free, forever.

When the app sees no text at all, it now tells you right away instead of taking a photo for nothing. - A message asks you to hold the phone closer to the text - Your free reading stays untouched - If you press again, the app tries anyway: you are the one looking at the paper, not it

Reading out loud is now one tap away: there is no need to freeze the image first. - The "Listen" button is visible from the start. You press it, the phone reads - The light has moved next to the zoom, within thumb's reach - After a reading, you go straight back to the camera

This update fixes the most frustrating moment in the app: when it finds no text in your photo. - A "Try again" button takes you straight back to the camera, in a single tap - If that first attempt finds nothing, your free reading stays untouched — you lose nothing until you have actually heard the app read out loud - Detection is better at picking up text photographed from a distance

• The magnifier is now free, forever • Your first reading out loud is on us — the whole text • The voice starts on its own: no button to hunt for • New: a one-off purchase, no subscription, shared with your family • The app follows the text size set on your iPhone • A widget, a Control Centre button, and "Hey Siri, open Easy Magnifier" • Several VoiceOver fixes • A new icon

• A green badge tells you when the phone can see text to read • More reliable read-aloud • Clearer layout at the largest text sizes • Various fixes
