EDDLYNN Assess
Faculty Exam Control Plane
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
EDDLYNN Assess is the faculty control plane for the EDDLYNN assessment platform - the tool faculty, HODs, and administrators use to author, deploy, proctor, and grade examinations for their students.
Key capabilities:
- Question Vault: author and manage an AES-256 encrypted question bank
- Deploy: schedule and configure timed exams for a classroom
- Proctor: monitor live exam sessions and integrity signals in real time
- Results: outcome-based-education (OBE) analytics, an assessment ledger, and score-correction/audit trails for verified academic records
EDDLYNN Assess is provisioned by your institution - accounts are created by your college's administrator, not by self-signup.
more • Cancel sitting now cancels for everyone: students' papers lock and their iPads leave assessment mode within half a minute, and the sitting is removed shortly after.
• Required updates now reach you even if you stay signed in.
• If iOS has to close a page to free memory, Assess now lets us know, so we can find and fix the cause.
1.0.12 17h ago
• The exam monitor keeps the screen awake while a sitting is running or paused.
• Raised hands, locked-out students and browser requests can now alert you through Focus.
• Swiping back now moves the page with your finger, as elsewhere on iOS.
• A refreshed sign-in screen and lighter tab icons.
1.0.11 1d ago
• A redesigned app, with dark mode.
• Results and the Assessment register are now one page.
1.0.10 4d ago
Assessment mode
• The exam monitor now shows which students' iPads were not locked in assessment mode: a "Not locked" line on their tile, a filter at the top, and their iPad's own reason on their panel. It stays after they hand in. Students need EDDLYNN Exam 1.0.9 for their iPad to report this.
• Where your institution requires assessment mode, Schedule starts on Require, and a student who chooses Don't Allow cannot open the paper. Choose Off for a sitting that must run without it.
• The Automatic setting now says plainly that a student can decline and sit the paper unlocked.
Smaller things
• On an iPhone, a scheduled exam's More menu now opens fully on screen.

Alerts on your iPhone or iPad
• Assess can now alert you when a student in a sitting you scheduled raises a hand, asks to use a browser, or is locked out, even when the app is closed. Turn it on from the card on the exam monitor or on the Notifications page.
• For exam monitor alerts, choose on the Notifications page between the first alert for each student followed by a count every 5 minutes, or every alert.
Raised hands
• Students can now raise a hand from the Exam app. Their names appear at the top of the exam monitor, and on their tile, until anyone running the sitting taps Attended. The student's screen then says a faculty member is coming.
• A raised hand, or a student asking to use a web browser, also appears in the bell.
The exam monitor
• Each student who is writing shows how much time they have left. It turns amber under five minutes, and red when a paper that should have arrived has not. The header says when the last student finishes.
• Where your institution lets students sit in a web browser and asks for approval, a browser sitting waits until the person who scheduled the exam approves it in the monitor.
Scheduling
• A scheduled exam can be moved to another time from its More menu on the Schedule screen, until anyone has opened it. The class is told the new time.
• A student can be left out of a sitting after it has been scheduled, as long as they have not started.
• The notification students receive for a new exam now says when it is, and that they sit it in the Exam app.
Results
• Marks from a colleague's exam in your department now appear under the right class. Before, a head of department could see "marks could not be matched to a class", and those marks were left out.
Notifications
• The bell says who and which exam each notification is about, with the day as well as the time. A proctoring alert opens the exam monitor.
• The Notifications page reads the same way.
Exam library
• Unassigned questions, the ones left behind when an exam is deleted, now show the question itself. When an identical copy is still on another exam, the question says so, so you know deleting it loses nothing.
Smaller things
• Signing out of Assess signs you out on this device only, not in your other EDDLYNN apps.
• The Dashboard fills the window on wide screens.
1.0.8 Oct 7
Writing an exam
• The editor now has three tabs named after the work: Add questions, Write and Export. Generating questions with AI is on the first of them — it used to sit inside Import / Export, where nobody found it.
• After a generation you are asked what happens next: read the questions first, or make the exam ready and go straight to the Schedule screen.
• "Ready to schedule", from the editor or from the Library, now opens the Schedule screen with your exam already chosen instead of an empty list. If an exam cannot be scheduled there — a viva or a practical, which are recorded from the Assessment register — the screen says so.
• One Save button, at the end of the form, where you finish writing. The question type is a setting above the form rather than a second action.
• AI generation opens with no chapter selected, so a run only ever covers the chapters you choose.
• Search the chapter list instead of scrolling it, by name or by number.
• Search learning outcomes across the whole subject to find a topic — type "bite marks" and the matching outcomes appear with the chapter each belongs to, even in chapters you have not added. Ticking one adds its chapter for you.
• Opening an exam now starts on Add questions.
Marks your students cannot see yet
• The Dashboard now tells you when an assessment has marks that have not been published, and opens Results filtered to exactly those.
• The Assessment register shows "Students can see" beside "HOD sign-off". They are two different things and can disagree: publishing is what lets students see their marks, while sign-off is for audit and accreditation.
Your subjects
• Chapters and learning outcomes are now limited to the subjects you teach — your own department, plus any department you teach a class in. Previously every department's curriculum was listed.
The exam monitor
• Students writing in the Exam app are no longer reported as writing in a browser.
Results
• An assessment given to more than one class now has a row for each of them. It used to appear once, under whichever class sat it last, with both classes' marks averaged together — so the average and the pass rate belonged to neither class, and half the students were filed under a class they are not in. Each row now carries its own class, its own date and its own numbers.
Fixes
• Editing a question and saving it now works. Saving an edit could fail outright, and the message said only "[object Object]" — errors now say what actually went wrong.
• Scheduling an exam no longer warns that exclusions failed when they did not. Excluding a student who was already excluded is no longer treated as an error, and a genuine failure now names exactly how many students it affected.
• Warnings and errors stay on screen long enough to read.
• Deleting an assessment's marks now says how many classes it covers, because it covers every class that sat the paper.
• Questions generated with AI no longer open with "According to the source text" — a student never sees the source, so the question does not mention it.
Smaller things
• An exam marked ready with no questions no longer describes itself as ready to schedule.
• Assess now loads only the screen you open, so it starts faster.
1.0.6 Sep 29
Redesigned screens
• Dashboard: today's sittings at a glance (live now, still open, paused or later today), and a line that says whose numbers you are seeing.
• Library: your exams grouped by stage (Needs questions, Drafts, Ready to schedule, In use), with a Subject selector. Shared templates from every subject you teach a class in now appear too.
• Schedule: a summary of the sitting as you fill in the form, including how many students will be able to sit it. Search the class list by name or registration number when excluding or including students. Open sittings are listed by day, with anything that needs you at the top.
• Results: every assessment in one list, and a full report for each. Vivas and practicals show how many marks have been entered.
• Exam monitor: a bar across the top shows who is still writing, has handed in, or is offline, locked, paused or flagged. Tap one to see only those students. Each student is a tile; tap it for their details and every action. A paused sitting now stays on the monitor so you can resume it, and the alert sound plays.
Filing an exam under the right subject
• When you create an exam you can now file it under any subject you teach, not only your department's default.
• An exam's course outcomes now come from its own subject, so CO attainment is credited where it belongs.
• An offline assessment is filed under its class's subject, and a sitting's subject code now matches the exam it belongs to.
Moving between apps
• Open EDDLYNN Mentor straight from Assess. If Mentor is not installed it opens in your browser — you are never sent to the App Store.
• The update screen now offers assess.eddlynn.com, so you can keep working while an update downloads.
Signing in
• A Google account that is not on your institution's roster now gets a plain explanation instead of a technical error.
1.0.5 Sep 26
Exam monitor
• Release codes: view or print each student's code for pausing assessment mode on their iPad, even when it is offline. Each student's card can show their code for 30 seconds.
• Lock device again: put a released student's iPad back into assessment mode.
• See which students started on a different network from the rest of the hall.
• Invigilator pauses, releases and re-locks are listed separately and never count as violations.
1.0.4 Sep 22
• Import a question paper straight from a PDF or Word document.
• Narrow the marks export by date, and choose a format by what it produces: a one-sheet marks table, or a four-sheet assessment workbook.
• Notifications now appear in Assess. Proctoring alerts, correction requests and their outcomes reach you here, instead of only in Mentor.
1.0.3 Sep 15
Imported questions are now reviewed automatically. When you upload a question paper, each question is checked for a wrong or ambiguous answer key and given explanations for the correct and incorrect options — your original wording is never changed.
Fixed: exporting marks as CSV or Excel now saves correctly on iPad and iPhone.
1.0.2 Sep 8
Fixes and refinements:
• When scheduling an exam, the form now explains how assessment mode and proctoring work together — including which students each one actually covers.
• The exam form no longer asks for a subject code it can derive itself.
• The side menu now closes completely in landscape.
• The app version and build number now appear beneath Sign out, so you can tell us exactly which version you are looking at when you report something.
1.0.1 Sep 5
• Cancel sitting now cancels for everyone: students' papers lock and their iPads leave assessment mode within half a minute, and the sitting is removed shortly after.
• Required updates now reach you even if you stay signed in.
• If iOS has to close a page to free memory, Assess now lets us know, so we can find and fix the cause.
