Read, search, and cite your PDF books from AI. Version 1.0.18 adds Read Aloud, a Reading Ruler, Light, Sepia, and Dark themes, Page Thumbnails, and shelf collections.
RooBook is a library for reading, searching, and citing your own PDF books, including from AI. On iPhone and iPad, you read the books you add on your Mac.
READ
- Choose the page layout (Single Page, Two-Page Spread, or Continuous Scroll) and zoom. RooBook remembers them for each book.
- Themes: System, Light, Sepia, and Dark. Dark inverts only the lightness of the page, and keeps photos in their original colors when the book knows where they are.
- Read Aloud, with adjustable speed and separate Japanese and English voices. The sentence being read is marked.
- Reading Ruler: a band on the line you are reading, with a choice of color, width, and intensity.
- Print page numbers, how much you have read, and the time left in the chapter and the book. Go to any page by number.
- Books open where you left off. After jumping from the contents or a search, you can go back to where you were.
- Page Thumbnails show every page, grouped by chapter.
SEARCH
- Search in Book frames each match on the page and lists them by chapter and page.
- Search your whole library by title, author, or text.
ANNOTATE
- Highlights in four colors, underline, notes, and bookmarks.
- See them all in the Notebook and export them as Markdown.
- Highlights, notes, bookmarks, and your reading position sync across your devices.
- Ask AI writes a question about the selected text, with its source and a link back to the page.
ORGANIZE YOUR SHELF
- Sort by Recently Read, Recently Added, title, or author, in a grid or a list.
- Filter by Reading, Unread, Finished, or Saved on this device, and see your progress on each book.
- Make collections. Books in the same series are stacked on one card.
- Save books on the device to read them offline.
USE IT FROM AI
RooBook runs a remote MCP server (https://api.roobook.app/mcp). Add it as a connector in an AI app that supports remote MCP servers and sign in with your RooBook account. The AI can then search your library and read pages before it answers, and it can reach only your own books. Links in the answers open the cited page in RooBook on iPhone and iPad. In Claude, add RooBook from the connector directory.
In Slack, search your library with the /roobook command.
ADD BOOKS ON YOUR MAC
Adding and analyzing PDFs happens in RooBook for Mac, on a Mac with Apple silicon running macOS 15 or later. Get the Mac app from roobook.app. Text recognition (OCR) runs on your Mac with Apple Vision. For chapters, sections, and figures, choose OpenAI (a ChatGPT account and Codex), Claude (an Anthropic API key), or Ollama (a model on your Mac). With OpenAI or Claude, OCR text and page images are sent to that service for the analysis.
LANGUAGES
The app is in English and Japanese and follows your device's language. You can change the language for RooBook in the Settings app. OCR reads Japanese and English, in vertical and horizontal text.
ACCOUNT AND PRICE
Create a RooBook account with your email address. You can delete your books and your account in the app.
RooBook is free, with no ads.
