nawana: Language Learning
AI speaking tutor, your voice
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Your language isn't growing for one reason. You don't speak enough. Call the fluent you every day, and each talk becomes your own textbook.
Learn the language with the fluent you.
Your language isn't growing for one reason. You don't speak enough. And the real block isn't vocabulary. It's that pulling your own thoughts out of your head has never been trained. Not reciting memorized lines, but saying what you actually think, in your own words. That's where conversation starts. Speak, get your grammar and phrasing corrected, repeat daily. nawana is built for exactly that.
Sixty seconds of recording builds your fluent future self. Not a native speaker, not a voice from a movie. A goal you can actually reach. Your own voice, fluent. Pitch, tone, and pace stay yours. The only thing that changes is the language.
HOW IT WORKS
Conversations start from your interests, one tap, like placing a call
Talk with the fluent future you. Stumble freely, every turn comes back fluent
Hang up, and your expressions, words, and grammar are analyzed into your own textbook
Every word you say out loud checks itself off in your wordbook
Your level is measured, only from what you actually said
TALK. It makes you speak, then finds what to fix
Call daily about free topics, situations you actually face, or news matched to your interests. Every session ends in a scorecard across five skills (vocabulary, grammar, expressiveness, fluency, pronunciation) and every fumbled line becomes a review card automatically.
WATCH. See tomorrow's conversation today
An interview, a doctor's visit, an awkward ask. Describe the situation in one line and your fluent self lives it first. Your lines play in your own fluent voice, and any sentence you want is one tap away from shadowing.
SHADOW. Until it comes out on its own
The voice you match is your own. Speak along with the fluent line, loop the hard part at 0.5x, and see a per-word verdict: nailed, swapped, or skipped.
SPEECH. Say it out loud before the day it counts
Read a script aloud from a prompter that follows your voice. Turn the camera on and you keep a vertical video of you and your script together. Every take is scored for accuracy, pace, pauses and filler words, and a coach tells you what to try next. Anyone can practice the built-in script; writing one with AI or adding your own talk comes with Plus and Max.
REVIEW. It returns right before you forget
Fumbled sentences come back as spaced-repetition drills, answered out loud, never multiple choice. A pool of about 8,000 CEFR-graded words sits underneath, and every word you use is ticked off automatically.
YOUR VOICE, TREATED CAREFULLY
Recording is sixty seconds at setup, once. Nothing is ever recorded outside a conversation you started. Re-record or delete your voice anytime. Sessions, drills, and progress stay on your iPhone.
SUBSCRIPTION
Light gives you 150 minutes of talk a month, Plus 600 and Max 1,200. A new Watch scene uses 5 of those minutes, and watching one again is free. Plus and Max also let you write Speech scripts with AI or add your own. Spend the minutes in one go or across the month, and if you need more, you can buy 50 extra minutes, with or without a plan. Review, replay, and building situations are always free.
Sixty seconds of setup. Start your first call with the fluent future you today.

1.2.5 21h ago
New
• Tutor mode is new. Pick a topic and your future self teaches it in 3 to 4 steps, practicing each one with you until you say it without a mistake. A checklist above the call shows where you are, and a lesson you stop picks up on your next call.
• When a lesson is done, choose to keep going on the same topic or move to another.
• Tap the book next to a Podcast episode to turn it into your own review book.
• Before your first call, you can set your level, speed, Coach mode, Answer with Send and Tutor mode.
• When you first make your voice, you can pick a voice that sounds like yours instead of your own.
• Pick as many answers to "Why are you learning?" as you like.
• The Voice page in Settings is simpler and easier to scan.
• The Speech tab now shows up to 10 challenges.
Fixed
• Noise no longer plays before the first line of a Watch scene.
• Your bubble no longer disappears and comes back after you finish speaking in a call.
• The Shadowing countdown no longer hangs on "3".
• The timer in a call and the ring on Home now show the same talk time.
• In the weekly test, fixing just the underlined part now counts as a right answer, and translation questions now mean the same thing as their answers.
• Languages without Podcast episodes no longer show an empty Podcast tab.
• Your public intro preview no longer opens every time you go to Watch.
• Taking your profile down now takes it down in every language you published it in.
1.2.4 1d ago
New
• Pick My lines or Both sides at the top of Say it again, in one tap. You can always see which part you're reading.
• In Say it again, the red dot next to "Say your line" moves with your voice, so you know the mic is hearing you.
• Find people, a person's page and the map card now show the intro that person published.
Fixed
• In Say it again, starting over or re-reading a line no longer leaves the next line stuck when you speak.

• In Speech, "Hear it in my voice" keeps playing while you scroll the script.
• If you already subscribe, the plans screen no longer offers a free trial.
1.2.3 3d ago
New
• Your daily call doesn't keep coming back to the same subject. It takes turns: picking up your last talk, light chat about films or music, a story from today's news, and a question that asks your opinion (from B1).
• Me → Say hello now has Email and Threads too.
• Add the My routine widget to your Home Screen. It shows what's on today and what's up now, and a tap starts it.
• An empty Review page now shows where your first book will appear, with a button to start a call.
• Add your own words, expressions and sentences to your lists. As you type, anything already there shows up.
• Mark a review card as misheard: that line leaves your score, and the cards made from it are cleared.
• Swipe sideways through the topic chips on the Talk tab.
Fixed
• Your next daily call now rings on time even if you declined or answered the last one and didn't open the app.
• When your free minutes run out, a report on what those talks showed opens. It no longer goes missing if you close the call screen right after the talk ends.
• Quick quizzes now use expressions at your level you haven't used yet, and the weekly test uses the words, expressions and sentences you put off in your deck. No more questions where several choices fit.
• Opening The Core on a smaller iPhone no longer closes the app.
• Card sentences and buttons no longer get cut off on small screens.
• In Listen, there's a short pause before the next episode starts.
• In coach mode, "try saying" now follows the whole call and your profile, so it never contradicts what you already said.
• A quick quiz you closed halfway picks up where you left off.
1.2.2 4d ago
New
• Setup now helps you build your own routine. Set the time and days for your daily call, then pick what else you want to do (Say it again, review, shadowing, listening, speech) and when. Once it's on your week, move or change anything right there, then confirm.
• Shadowing and listening can each have their own spot in your routine. A listening reminder opens the player already playing, and a day you listened counts as a day you studied.
• Learning German? The nawana Podcast now comes in German too.
• Pick a British or Australian English accent, or Castilian Spanish, and your fluent self uses that variety's words too. Your own words from the other side are never marked wrong.
• Accent buttons now switch right away, no extra screen.
• The free-minutes sheet has a Later button, so you can close it without starting a call.
Fixed
• Choosing Original under accents brings back your voice exactly as you recorded it.
• Sounds no longer overlap on the screen where you first hear your voice.
• Tapping anywhere on a colour tile now selects it.
• The tab bar no longer shows on the topics page.

• Slow the player down to the speed you like.
• In a call with a person or a role, their name now shows on their lines.
• Take a quick quiz from the Talk screen whenever you like, with words, expressions and grammar picked for you.
• Find a topic for today's talk with one button.
• Listen to your situations back to back in a player. It keeps playing with the screen off.
• When you learn Japanese, readings now appear above the kanji.
• On a free trial in Korea, the app tells you ahead of time that you'll need to agree before you're charged.
• The weekly test now lives inside your weekly report.
Fixed
• Cut in while your fluent self is talking and it stops right away. It used to stop late, or not at all.
• Challenge cards no longer change size when you open one and come back.
• You no longer slide in from the side when Watch first opens.
• The tab bar no longer shows while a situation plays.

1.1.11 Oct 18
New
• Turn on Study in a speech script to see its grammar and expressions explained, with each paragraph translated into your language.
• Make an audio version of your script read in your own voice.
• Turn on Answer with Send in a call and pausing won't end your turn. Take your time, then tap the middle button when you're done.
Fixed
• Minor bug fixes and stability improvements.
1.1.10 Oct 16
New
• Tutor mode, in call settings. Turn it on and your fluent self runs a lesson: after everything you say, you hear the right sentence or a more natural way to put it, then a question you can answer by using it.
• When you publish your profile in Find people, your photo goes with it.
Fixed
• Speech takes read all the way through were scored as if the last sentence was skipped.
• Speech challenge takes from learners without a photo never reached the leaderboard.
• Taking the weekly test the day after it opened broke your streak in My routine. Days lost this way are restored.
• With the new voice, the greeting at the start of a call could sound jumbled.
1.1.9 Oct 13
New
• Your voice moves to a new voice engine: more natural, more like you, and faster replies. You'll see a note when you open the app. Pick an accent and rebuild your voice from your recording in one tap.
• The Watch tab is now a map of people. You're in the middle, and the people closest to you sit nearest. Bring someone to the middle and they greet you in their own voice; start a scene or a call right from their card. Your profile and the introduction others see now live on one page.
• Everyone in Find people now speaks in a voice of their own, with the accent of where they're from. The default voices are native speakers of the language you're learning.
• On your Find people profile, pick the voice that plays you from voices of your own country. Rewrite your introduction from what you've told your fluent self lately, and get a greeting to match.
• Challenges in the Speech tab: everyone reads the same script and competes for the top score. Only takes recorded with the camera on count, and the leaderboard shows just your name and score.
• Choose why you're learning (an exam, work, travel and more) and the Talk tab's topics follow it, with a routine suggested for you.
• Tap “Your effort” on the Progress tab to see what you practised, and how much, over a week or a month.
• In Me → Accent, choose "Original" to go back to your voice with no accent.
Fixed
• Sign in with Apple did nothing on the welcome screen. It works again.
• Automatic greetings were cut off halfway. They're whole now.
• In a call, replies now appear one sentence at a time, together with the voice.
• Shadowing and Speech scores are more accurate: Korean is compared by word group, Japanese by word, and anything you skipped is shown as it's written in the script.
• In My routine, a day counts once you've started every block, and review blocks fill up with every card and word you studied.
• The limit of one voice change every 30 days is gone.
• Fixed the app closing when you opened the Me tab.
• The voice recording script is a little shorter.
1.1.8 Oct 13
New
• Even when this month's voices are used up, you can finish signing up. Your recording is saved and meanwhile you pick one of the preset voices to practice with; on the day voices can be made again, it switches to your own voice by itself.
Fixed
• Calls now connect when you use nawana on a Mac.
• With subtitles off, the "thinking" line no longer shows during a call.
• When a voice can't be made right now, you're told when it can, instead of seeing an error.
1.1.6 Oct 10
New
• Picked English? You're asked first whether your voice should speak with an American, British or Australian accent, or stay as you recorded it, and it's made that way from the start.
• Learning German, your voice now speaks with a standard German accent.
• Weekly test: a new kind of question turns your own grammar slips into fresh sentences. See a sentence in your language and build it in the one you're learning from word tiles.
Fixed
• Speech on iPad: the camera picture no longer shows up sideways. Hold it in landscape or turn it mid-take and the video stays upright.
• Speech on iPad: the camera now comes on right away.
• Say it again: long turns now come back as a polished line too.
• In a call, what you say in your own language stays as you said it, and a turn that got cut off is understood as one.
• The first greeting of a call no longer runs its sentences together.
• Replies in a call now appear smoothly instead of jumping.
• This call's focus now comes only from grammar slips you actually made.
• Adding something to your routine after you've finished the day no longer takes the day back.
• Close the accent picker and open it again, and the takes you heard are still there.
• Setting up, you only need to enter your city.
1.1.5 Oct 9
New
• Speech: a new tab for practicing talks and presentations. Read your script out loud from a prompter that keeps pace with your voice. Turn on the camera and you get a vertical video with your script and your face. You're scored on accuracy, pace, pauses and filler words, and a coach tells you what to try next.
• Max: a new plan with 1,200 minutes of talk a month. Need more? Buy 50 extra minutes, with or without a plan.
• My routine: plan your week right on the timetable and drag blocks to move them. Put talks, reviews and Say it again on the days and times you want; the daily call rings at your routine's talk times.
• Each tab now opens with a short guide the first time: what it's for and how to use it. See them again anytime in Me → App guide.
• Talk has a new Everyday section: common situations like a café, a restaurant, a clothing store or calling a clinic, one tap to start.
• The Review page has a fresh design that makes it easier to finish each of your books.
• Export a book as a PDF and you get a workbook you can start filling in right away.
Fixed

• The greeting at the start of a call could cut off when a Bluetooth device was nearby.
• "Try saying" suggestions now sound more natural.
• Your future self now breathes between sentences and sounds more natural.
• You can change the speaking speed during a call.
• A scheduled call could ring during a call you were already on and cut it off.

• Casual Korean could be written down as polite speech.
• Your future self sometimes stalled without answering. This happens far less now.
• The third tab is now correctly called Review.
• Learning Korean? The words and expressions you say are now recognized more accurately.
• Your future self now pronounces Korean more naturally and no longer shouts at exclamation marks.
• In Say it again, just pausing to think could skip you ahead to the next line.
• Turning off coach mode during a call didn't stop the suggestions.
1.1.4 Oct 6
New
• Week in review: when a week ends, flip through last week's calls and the words and expressions you picked up, with this week's test on the last card.
• Grammar focus: pick one mistake you keep making and keep it in mind for the whole call. You'll see it right away if it comes up again. On by default at A1 and A2.
• When you first meet your voice, you can hear and choose from four accents right there.
• You can now learn the language you use the app in.
Fixed

1.1.3 Oct 1
New
• Coach mode: now and then your future self asks something you can answer with a word you're studying, and shows that word as a hint while you think. Turn it on in Call settings.
• People sound like themselves. A friend talks like a friend, a public figure like themselves. When you add someone, you can choose how casually the two of you talk.
• When you're learning Korean or Japanese, your conversation partners speak with voices and names from that language.
• The app is now available in German.
Fixed
