Castable - Text to Speech
Read Aloud Books, Docs & PDFs
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Turn any PDF, book, scan or article into natural narration. Start free with a shelf of classics - Dracula, Frankenstein and more.
Anything you can read, you can listen to.
Castable turns whatever you're reading into natural, narrated audio - and highlights every word as it plays, so you can follow along or just listen.
FIVE WAYS IN, ONE LIBRARY OUT
• Scan a page with your camera, or pick a photo
• Open a PDF
• Read an EPUB, cover and chapters intact
• Share a web article from Safari or any app
• Paste text, or open a text file
WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT
• Works offline. Narration is generated on your iPhone or iPad, so a flight, a tunnel never stops playback.
• Word-by-word highlighting, boxed directly on the page for scans and PDFs. Tap any word to jump playback there.
• Long-form narrators that hold their pacing across chapters and handle names, dialogue and technical terms cleanly.
• Plays in the background, with full lock screen and Control Center controls, just like a podcast.
• Skips the clutter - headers, footnotes, citations, URLs, page numbers - so you hear only the writing.
• A shelf of free classics: Frankenstein, Dracula, Pride and Prejudice, The Odyssey and more, narrated and ready to play.
BUILT FOR
• Students turning textbooks and notes into audio
• Readers with dyslexia or low vision, and anyone for whom reading is the hard part
• Commuters, walkers, and anyone with a backlog of unread PDFs
• Professionals catching up on reports and articles
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Everything happens on your device. Text recognition and narration both run on your iPhone or iPad, so your documents are never uploaded, never seen by us, and never used to train anything. Delete a document and it is gone.
Castable offers an optional subscription that unlocks unlimited listening, with a free trial available. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel anytime in your Apple Account settings.

Ratings & Reviews
- This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
Castable now reads to you entirely on your own iPhone or iPad. Nothing you import leaves your phone. We never see your documents, and nothing is used to train anything.
It also means you can listen anywhere. Flights, tunnels, the underground. Once a document is in your library, you never need a connection to hear it.
Thank you for reading with us.
