Turn speech into text in the app you’re already using. Press a shortcut, dictate, and Dettato inserts the result. Audio and transcription stay on your Mac.
Choose the mode that fits the moment:
- Dictation pastes your transcription as-is. It is the default and works without Apple Intelligence.
- Auto uses Apple’s on-device Foundation Models to adapt tone and formatting to the destination app.
- Prompting turns your ideas into a structured prompt for an AI assistant.
Want a different result? Re-elaborate any item in your History with another mode.
Auto only receives the destination app’s identity—it never reads the contents of your screen, documents, browser tabs, or text fields.
Audio, transcription, and Foundation Models processing stay on your Mac. Your history is stored locally and is never sent to a cloud AI service. If Apple Intelligence is unavailable or a result cannot be safely refined, Dettato uses the original transcription.

- Add names, technical terms, and preferred spellings in Settings → Vocabulary, with alternative spellings to help recognition.
- Turn a spoken phrase into saved text: ideal for signatures, addresses, and frequently used messages.
- Dettato now automatically removes common hesitation sounds such as “uh” and “um.”
