New this week: Vesper's dusk narration now notes where the tint has faded in surviving copies, the redwing's throat, almost grey now.
9:47pm on the sofa, the lamp on and nothing to look at that isn't shouting. Loupe opens a single hand-colored plate for the evening, and Vesper reads it to you the way a curator would at the case, plate number, engraver, the notation in the margin.
What you get:
• One plate per dusk, chosen from the cabinet and opened with Vesper's spoken commentary
• Deep-zoom viewing of the full engraving, watermark-free, with the engraver's marks and margin notes preserved
• Per-plate commentary: species by its old binomial, plate number, engraver attribution, year
• Restored tints shown as the colorist finished them, with notes on where the color has faded in surviving impressions
• Your personal cabinet, a growing catalogue of the plates you've opened, ordered by engraver, year, and species
• Narration that can be turned off; the plates stay, quiet under glass
How it feels:
The loupe rim catches the lamplight. Vesper speaks once, then leaves the case open a moment. One observation per plate, not three. Nothing to scroll to next.
Who it's for:
• The reader who wants one small thing that's theirs at the end of the day, a plate, a voice, the lamp on
• The lover of old prints who couldn't yet tell a redwing from a redstart, and would like to
• The person tired of watermarked museum scans and reprints that gave up on the color
Privacy:
Your cabinet, the plates you've opened, the ones you've kept, stays on your device. Nothing about your evenings is shared. See the privacy policy for the full account.
The case is open a moment.
