Optimized for long listening sessions, with less heat and lower battery use. Fixed several minor bugs.

This update lets you start listening right away, and makes the Vietnamese voices sound better and run lighter. Listen right away: tap Listen and the app reads aloud with a voice already on your device or a voice pack you have downloaded. It only asks you to choose a reader when no voice on your device can read the book's language. A sample story in your language: on first launch, your library starts with a story in the language you choose, so you can try reading and listening straight away. Lighter on your device: the Vietnamese reader now uses noticeably fewer resources during long listening sessions, while reading just as fast. Clearer speech: the first sound of each sentence comes through clearly when reading stories, repeated phrases are much rarer, and passages with many short lines of dialogue now flow without pauses. EPUB books no longer break sentences in the middle. Books already in your library update their text layout once when you open them, keeping your place and your bookmarks. One more small thing: once you stop listening, the player leaves the Lock Screen. Plus minor bug fixes.

OpenRead now speaks 31 languages. Add the multilingual voice pack (Settings → Voice packs) and OpenRead can read your English, French, Japanese, Korean books and many more — ten new voices, running right on your device. It works out which language each book is in, so you just press play. The app itself is now available in all 31 of those languages, too. A few smaller things: pages indent like a printed book, PDFs no longer split a sentence at the page break, and voice packs download smaller and more reliably.

Bug fixes. • Scroll mode: moving to a new chapter now starts you at the top of it, instead of leaving you where you were in the previous chapter. • Reading progress now follows how far you have scrolled, so finishing a book fills the bar. • If you read without listening, force-quitting the app no longer loses your place. It used to reopen at whichever chapter you last returned to the library from. • While listening, tapping the "back to the current sentence" pill after scrolling away now actually returns you there. It used to do nothing whenever you had scrolled far. • Enhanced voice: some chapters would sit at "First sentence is taking a moment" for a very long time. Those chapters now start normally, and one voice that was several times slower than the rest is now much closer to them. • Enhanced voice: a phrase the book repeats was sometimes spoken one time too many. The sentence is now split between the two copies before synthesis, so it is read the right number of times.

Bug fixes. • Enhanced voice: a few sentences would stop the book, and reopening it stopped in the same place. Those sentences now read normally — no need to download the voice again or re-import the book.
