Unplot: Graph Digitizer
Turn charts back into data

Mac
Turn any published chart back into numbers. Load an image or PDF, calibrate the axes, and export clean CSV — with sub-pixel accuracy on rotated and logarithmic plots.
Unplot turns published charts back into the numbers behind them.
You found the figure you need, but the paper gives you a picture instead of a table. Unplot gets the data back: load the image or PDF, mark four reference points on the axes, and read exact values off the curve.
WHY A NATIVE MAC APP
Digitizing a plot is precision work. It lives or dies on how the cursor feels, how smoothly you can zoom, and whether you can see the pixel you are about to click. Unplot is built entirely in Swift for macOS — fluid trackpad zoom, a crisp crosshair, and a magnifier that shows you the exact pixel under the cursor with the surrounding markers drawn in.
ACCURATE, AND MEASURABLY SO
Unplot was validated against synthetic plots with known ground truth. On a 0–100 axis the median error is 0.14 units. On a three-decade logarithmic axis it is 0.27 percent — under half a pixel. A plot scanned three degrees off-square gives the same accuracy as a straight one, because the calibration solves a full affine transform rather than assuming square axes.
WHAT IT DOES
• Open images by drag and drop, file picker, or paste from the clipboard
• Import PDF pages directly at 150, 300, or 600 DPI — no screenshots, no lost resolution
• Calibrate with two points per axis; skewed and rotated scans are handled automatically
• Linear and logarithmic axes, in either direction
• Collect points by hand with a magnifier, arrow-key nudging, and full undo
• Extract a whole curve automatically: pick its color with the eyedropper, set a tolerance, and let Unplot read the median of every pixel column
• Restrict extraction to the plotted area so legends and labels stay out of your data
• Review every point in a live table, sorted and editable
• Export a CSV file, or copy TSV straight to the clipboard and paste into Numbers, Excel, R, or Python
• Save a project file that remembers the image, the calibration, and every point
BUILT FOR THE WAY RESEARCH ACTUALLY WORKS
Decimal points in exported files always use a period, never a locale-dependent comma, so your CSV opens correctly in R, pandas, and MATLAB regardless of system language. Projects are stored as a readable package: a JSON file and a lossless PNG, so your data is never locked inside a proprietary blob.
PRIVACY
Unplot has no accounts, no analytics, and no network access whatsoever. Your figures never leave your Mac.
