Promptly
Faster than forgetting.
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Type one line and press send. It lands in the right notebook, on the right day. Later, turn any notebook or subject into a prompt, without a word leaving your phone.
Promptly is for the line you would never open a notes app for.
One field, always ready. Nothing to decide before you write. Press send and it is filed: right notebook, right day. It goes where you left off, or you name one with @ as you type. There is no note to title and nothing to tidy.
Then, when it matters, Promptly turns any notebook, person, topic or week into a prompt you can paste into any AI chat. Names are swapped out, the whole text is shown to you first, and nothing leaves your phone until you press Copy.
There is no account and no server. Answers are worked out on your phone by the model that comes with iOS. Turn on aeroplane mode and it all still works.
WRITING
Open the app and the caret is already there, pointed at the notebook you were last in.
Type @ for a notebook or # for a topic and they are suggested as you go. Say nothing and the line goes where you were writing.
Every line is its own note, so any of them can be found, moved or answered on its own.
Bold and italic, with ⌘B and ⌘I on a keyboard.
While you write, an older note about the same thing surfaces quietly beside it.
Rename a notebook or topic once and it changes everywhere.
MAKE A PROMPT
Pick what it is for: catch me up, what is still open, draft the follow-up, prep me for next time, or just the notes.
Make it from a notebook, a topic, or the past week or month across everything.
Read the whole thing before it goes. People become Person A, notebooks become Notebook A, and the key stays on your phone.
Promptly never talks to an AI itself, so it needs no account, no subscription and no trust.
READING
Each notebook reads as a document, grouped by day and topic.
Topics cut across notebooks, so a subject you wrote about at work and at home is one subject.
A timeline of everything, with a calendar to jump to any day. Tap a date in a note to go to that day.
Also called: give a notebook a nickname or initials, and they link to it too.
Also mentioned: every notebook and topic shows the notes elsewhere that mention it.
Ask a question and get an answer, with the notes it came from listed underneath.
Optional line numbers and bullets, kept faint.
THINGS ONLY THIS APP DOES
Share a screenshot and it comes apart into separate notes, one per message, with who said it. If the picture says Tuesday, the notes file themselves on Tuesday.
Talk, and watch notes appear as you speak. Each time you pause, the sentence you just finished becomes its own note.
Lock your notes, not your writing. Turn on Face ID and reading, search and prompts ask for it. Writing never does, in the app, on the Lock Screen, in Control Center, with Siri or on your watch.
EVERYWHERE ELSE
Write from the Lock Screen, Control Center or the Action Button, and pin a button to the notebook you choose.
Siri, Spotlight and Shortcuts, with actions to get a notebook, get a topic or make a prompt.
Scan text with the camera, send to Reminders or Calendar, and share into Promptly from any app.
Two columns on iPad. On Apple Watch, your recent notebooks and a field to write in.
Private sync through your own iCloud. Export everything as Markdown (.md) or JSON whenever you like.
PROMPTLY PRO
One payment. Not a subscription.
Pro adds the layer connecting notes to people and days: a page for each person you keep a notebook for, with their name, face and what you said you would do; a brief before a meeting with who it is with and what is still open; and Handoff between your devices.
Everything else is the free app and stays that way.
Other notes apps keep documents. Promptly keeps what you wrote, every line with its own notebook, date and topic, and builds the document when you come to read it. That is why it can be asked a question, why the answer shows which notes it came from, and why a subject can be handed to an AI without handing over your library.
Promptly supports iPhone (including iPhone Duo), iPad, and Apple Watch.
Ratings & Reviews
- This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
Recaps, rewritten: Recaps are now short and easy to skim: a few sentences for each notebook or topic, with notebooks and topics shown inline and the main point in bold. Each one is checked against your notes, and a sentence naming a person, place, number or date that isn't in your notes is left out.
Recap your day, week or month: Tap All notebooks on the Timeline to recap today, the past week or the past month. Topics can be recapped now too.
See where it's mentioned: Tap a notebook or topic's name to see the other notes that mention it. A yellow count appears beside the name when there are new ones.
Also: the notebook menu is now the same on iPhone and iPad. Hold a note to copy it. Recent no longer disappears from your notebook list depending on where you last wrote. The home screen widget now keeps the notebook you choose. And Promptly opens on Mac again.
